  1. Re: how do you deal with guns and superheroes in your campaign In what way do you suppose the military's accountability is enforceable except by relying on other members of the military? Is it simply that the military is larger than the (usual) superhuman population and hence there is less of a problem with having to rely on their loyalty being more to the system than to each other? That being said, in my campaigns as well the military had ways of effectively challenging powerful superheroes who go too far off the reservation. It's just that those methods didn't particularly rely on typical soldiers armed with carbines. Elite commandos armed with laser rifles and vibroknives, battlesuits named "Brigade" and "HALO", robotic myrmidons, homing missiles, radio-detonated anti-tank mines and nerve gas were more the thing. Not to mention of course actual super-powered military personnel. Regular soldiers might be used in overwhelming numbers against characters with poor defenses but anyone who can't handle a typical encounter with handful of men with guns really should stay out of the superhero biz, because their survival prospects are rather limited.
  2. Re: Ground Zero Build Radioactive Man Atom Smasher The Hulk Hyperion himself is a nuclear themed character.
  3. Re: (really) Super Tuesday All your characters have the same politics?
  4. Re: Homo Sapiens and their guns So the problem is not that the authorities were unable to deal with an extraordinary problem. It's just that they weren't policing themselves. He didn't have Mind Search? Yes, I never had a character with dispel teleport. Certainly I thought of such a solution, but my characters would have been no more capable of making use of it than the cops would. So why can't normal authorities inject a mentalist with drugs...or just shoot him?
  5. Re: Homo Sapiens and their guns Neither can any character I've ever played. Teleporters with good defenses are the definition of frustration. , If the cops can't handle a mentalist cult leader, how are they going to keep him in custody after the heroes leave? Why can't federal counter-intelligence agencies deal with that? It sounds almost as if you expect nonsupers to be dumb.
  6. Re: Homo Sapiens and their guns Unless they wear a costume, not dangerous at all. People who don't wear costumes are required to suck. One must look cool to be accurate.
  7. Re: Ground Zero Build M.A.D.: an atomic powered robot. And if he's losing, he explodes, violently. Emp: Can generate electromagnetic pulses so powerful that they repel metal objects not to mention frying high tech foci. Scavenger: Cockroach powers including regeneration, armour, strength and the ability to digest anything he can fit into his mouth or bite off. But who wants to call themselves "Cockroach"? (Nuclear) Winter: Guess Flashpoint: Team mentalist, he can get into your head and find some suppressed grudge and turn it into an uncontrolled rage.
  8. Re: (really) Super Tuesday I've only ever played one character who would be eligible for the American presidency. And as it happens he did retire from superheroics due to a slight case of vampirism, so I suppose if drafted, he'd be willing and available. I've never played a character who would give up superheroics for politics. Politics is frustrating and you never really know if you are doing the right thing.

  10. Re: A Thread for Random Videos You know that ad for the Motorola Razr where the woman challenges that guy to a duel using their phones as weapons? Well this ain't it: Lesbians!
  11. Re: '70s TV Supers Yeah. Guest stars weren't rare at all but they only showed up one at a time.
  12. Re: '70s TV Supers Of course as far as "feel" goes you run into the problem that a fundamental structural element of the shows was that you didn't have more than one hero working together as more than a guest star except for Michael Knight's gig as Kitt's sidekick. That way they could be outnumbered without an actual army of mundane goons. So if you've got a solo game it works fine but if you've got an actual play group...
  13. Re: The Fatherless Five In fact there were a lot of golden and silver age characters who were the last survivor of some dead world or extinct species.
  14. Re: Musings on Random Musings And you know, strangely they call them "automobile accidents". Are they any more accidental because they involved a car?
  15. Re: Goody Two-Shoes (Marvel) But he doesn't have the powers designed to humiliate the PCs. They may be annoyed that such a silly person can do damage to them but he isn't making them sing "I'm a Little Teapot".
  16. Re: Musings on Random Musings Well that's OK.
  17. Re: '70s TV Supers I've never been all that interested in playing someone else's character as a player. Never wanted to play Captain Kirk or Spider-Man. I find it more useful in such an environment to look for the villains. The Fembots: Created by renegade OSI scientist Doctor Franklin, the Fembots were a team of human-appearing robots made in the shape of women because Doctor Franklin was a pervert. (He could create male robots and on one occasion made a fake Oscar). KARR: The insane prototype for KITT Count Cagliostro: Stage magician and alchemist who developed a method for transmuting lead to gold temporarily and tried to use it to swindle a Middle Eastern potentate
  18. Computer translator sez Vietnamese is something like Ma Danh Từ. If that's wrong, your players will never know the difference.
  19. Re: Damage for lightsabers Light Sabers shouldn't have a STR min. They should have an EGO min.
  20. Re: A Thread for Random Musings Is it too much to say "Aquaman is just a watered-down Prince Namor?"
  21. Re: Opinions: A 'Hero' Stealing Their Gear.....???? Iron. Iron isn't just about megaviolence. It's about deconstruction and cynicism, abandonment of traditional heroic ethics as being "unrealistic". Booster Gold came out the same year Watchmen did, the year Punisher got his first miniseries, just a year before Marshall Law comes out. It's the start of the Iron Age and Booster, the athlete who got expelled from sports for betting on games and then stole his powers so he could play hero and get back the fame and money is right there along with with the other heros who don't play by the old rules.
