pawsplay got a reaction from Grailknight in Aiding an advantage
I would build it as a gradual effect that affects the whole planet, and treat its spreading as a Limitation.

Yeah, the whole "Magic User doesn't use a sword" trope as strictly D&D. I mean Geralt of Rivia uses a sword quite well.

pawsplay got a reaction from Duke Bushido in What skills would these be
I've played Hero in many genres, and I've never been in a situation where I thought Background skills should be priced like standard skills. A successful PS: Dancer check is not going to have any truly predictable effect beyond going a dance. It might impress someone, or they might not care. It's not the same as Conversation, Acrobatics, Stealth, and so forth, which have defined roles in challenges. Just because a Background skill is prominent doesn't mean it stops being a Background skill. Such skills typically have a narrow focus, and that definitely describes dance. Even doing a cheerleader routine or performing a somersault is not a core use of the skill, and challenging attempts would be at a penalty. PS: Dancer does not at all substitute for adventuring uses of Acrobatics.

Dodge and Block are basic combat options. We're not talking about Martial Maneuvers. I don't know why you think a magic-user shouldn't have access to Dodge unless they have some kind of Physical Limitation.

I have in the past joked Blip was the character, Space Ghost was a follower, and the two kids were DNPC...

I'm not sure I own a single roleplaying game with premade characters that does not have an error.

Hmmm....
have to keep that handy for Urban Fantasy HERO:
"That's right! Bring your scaly ass 'round here again, and we will straight-up curb-stomp it!"

I don't think Mitch McConnell and friends are actually as upset as some might think to have a moderate Democrat as POTUS.

pawsplay got a reaction from massey in How do YOU handle limitations that are advantageous?
Ok, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying a Limitation is generally priced according to how it affects your options. A power that harms evil, but doesn't harm non-evil, is not as limited because there are few situations where you want to harm non-evil beings but not harm evil ones. Assuming evil opponents are common in the campaign. And no, it's not really equivalent to Detect Evil, because you can't detect evil without doing some damage. That would be like saying Fiery Blast is a free detect on characters who are invulnerable to flame.
The situation "I'm being attacked by a bunch of non-evil dogs" just isn't that likely to come up, and if it does, you would employ some other tactic. In my view it's very similar to Lockout in that respect, which is worth a -1/4.

I honestly don't know what you're getting at here.

From the file of Good Things to Know:
White House’s science policy office on Tuesday ranked “ending the Covid-19 pandemic” atop the list of President Donald Trump’s top first-term accomplishments.
It's number one on their list of "Science and Technology Accomplishments from the First Term".

pawsplay got a reaction from Ninja-Bear in Fear AOE?
You agree that LOS only applies to Mind Control as far as targeting it. It is the same with AOE powers. You don't require a sense to damage targets with a fiery explosion, and you do not to affect them with a radius fear effect. There is no special rule with Mental Powers requiring the effect to have LOS, just as you agree with as far as Mind Control.
p.148
And there it is. Conventional barriers don't stop Mental Powers. So as long as you can target the area, you can affect everyone in the area.

I do believe there were other factors at play. For one, the other Republican candidates were mediocre in terms of being compelling, inspiring, or visionary. Trump stood out in no small measure due to his passion and his salesmanship, which while poppycock he still sold with apparent conviction. And of course, his being a political outsider, and a "successful businessman," also appealed to folks fed up with professional politicians and the status quo.
Moreover, I no longer believe that aggression and vitriol actually appealed to nearly as many Americans as voted for Donald Trump. In recent years I've encountered social media postings from many people who claim they had serious reservations about Trump, but who voted for him because they had a tradition of voting Republican, or they disliked/distrusted Hillary Clinton more, or they hoped Trump would "grow into" the job. They are now experiencing severe buyer's remorse.

The Great Era of Bipartisan Compromise ended in 1993. There were occasional deals made but by and large it's been obstruction and open partisan warfare since then. Newt Gingrich bears a lot of responsibility imho.

Aha! I just thought of this for various armors. Use Damage Negation (I said no more than 1D6). So say Plate is good against Slicing attacks then its DN: slicing.

What's depressing about liking Faerun or Eberron? What's distressing about "how would you build cool X spell?" in Hero System?
As to the original post, Hero handles "crits" differently. They don't exist as such. But that doesn't mean, for instance, you wouldn't convert the weapon.

Yep.
Got a bunch of those a year or so back and use them here with the youth group. (my adult groups have been doing paper dolls for so long that it just seems "more right" at this point )
I let the kids paint them ones they used, and keep then at the conclusion of the campaign.
Made a huge impression with them.

Compose - likely this is PS: Writing
Dancing - PS: Dancing
Falconry - Animal Handler and if you're using focused skills it's with raptors. If this is a particular specialty of your character, Skill Level: +1 with Animal Handler, KS: Falconry and PS: Falconer
Flirting - Conversation, Charm if you're willing to go all the way. Maybe better as a talent, +5 PR, only for flirting Presence Attacks
Heraldry - in a Pendragon context, High Society covers this to some extent, KS: Heraldry for a specialist
Hunting - Tracking, and at least Familiarity with Survival
Play Musical Instrument - PS: Musical instrument
Read - just part of the languages rules
Tourney - in a Pendragon context, High Society covers the basics, the rest would be covered by KS: Chivalric martial arts
Battle - Tactcs, Teamwork

Well, there are different ways of representing a huge, invulnerable dragon. The question I have is, what would you use this writeup for? Traditionally dragons are supposed to get slain, but it would be extraordinarily difficult for this dragon to be slain by anything.

pawsplay got a reaction from Duke Bushido in Dragon: rED/rPD 20
Hit Location x2 Body is after defenses, so no good. I'm wondering what the heck kind of dragon this is; many dragons are said to have hides "tougher than steel" but this has more than double the resistant defenses of plate armor. Sure, it's up to 32m tall, but this thing could eat a lot of superheroes for breakfast.

pawsplay got a reaction from ScottishFox in Crits and such
A weapon with an expanded crit range in D&D usually just has +1 OCV in Hero System. Which logically helps against hit locations.
If you wanted to translate a 5e barbarian's brutal critical, try Deadly Blow (blows to neck). A fighter (champion)'s Improved Critical is probably just two CSLs.
Honestly there aren't a lot of D&D weapons that don't already have Hero stats somewhere. Is there something you're struggling with?
