  1. An amalgam of Robotman and Ghost Rider, he was given a robotic body by Niles Cable after a horrific accident, and then made a deal with the devil. Now he's a nearly 6'10", 940 pound flaming bronze robot just trying to do what's right. 2. Re: [Character] Chatterbox 30 1) Sonic Immunity: Armor (0 PD/20 ED), Hardened (+1/4), Inherent (+1/4) (45 Active Points); Only Works Against Limited Type Of Attack Sonics (-1/2) My interpretation of Sonic powers is that they are more likely to do damage of a vibratory nature, and the damage therefore would probably go against PD. So my sonic chick would kick your sonic chicks butt.
  3. Re: A Plot Idea ... With No Good Resolution Obviously, it's evil. Not benign or neutral, but malignant over-the-top irredeemably evil. And it (or the being that actually controls it) has some sort of elaborate, far reaching, malevolent plot. It might be cool if the world discovers the 'dream' and loves it. Absolutely loves it. It seems to have absolutely no drawbacks and comes unbidden to those that need it and it's just generally helpful and awesome. I'd make it stick around for shorter periods if you do that though. And then the bad side. Did you see 'Death takes a Holiday?' Death goes on vacation and no one can die. Great, right? Unless you're crippled in mindnumbing pain with all your limbs chopped off and burning AND drowning in a vat of diesel fuel and you CAN'T die. So that would be my take. Make it cool and fun for a couple sessions. Good pc's will play along even though they know it's going to turn out to be evil.
  4. Re: Trying to figure out a good villain name Shakes the Clown. I'm pretty sure the scenario you mentioned is Bobcat's true story anyway.
  5. Re: Rant? Speed in Hero While things like this might improve the WNBA's ratings, it would probably hurt the NBA if it happened much. Hmm, maybe fear of that is why the NBA finals rated so low.
  6. Re: House Rule: Adding body damage to a game Personally, I am almost completely unconcerned with whether or not pc's take body damage from ridiculous attacks. What does bother me is when there is obvious rules hacking and player knowledge that it is in fact very difficult to kill normal people, even with killing attacks. Most normal people in my game have a 0 point Disad: 2X Body from any Body damage they take in excess of 2x their Defense. So a 2 PD guy takes 2 Body from a 4 Body normal attack, but 6 body from a 5 Body normal attack. And of course, Killing attacks Kill people. This also solves the problem of how to give a big bad villain a big enough attack to disintegrate a normal without blowing the campaign active limits through the roof.
  7. Re: Rant? Speed in Hero These are basically sustained actions and the overall effect of high Dex and Skill levels with Basketball, not a justification for better combat reactions than a SEAL. I mean playing basketball vs. a Seal? Water polo, maybe.
  8. Re: New to the hero system, trying to figure out some things I'm not sure why you want it to drain from a source in the way that you want, but if it's only going to cost 1 End/turn you probably just want to buy it to 0 End with a limitation on the total amount of time you can use it per day, or buy continuing charges. When I want to attack with multiple blades I usually just say it's by fx and buy Reduced penetration and requires 2 weapons as limitations.
  9. Re: Bricks Get Hosed, Or Not IMO, since most bricks tend to be expert fighters, they shouldn't be the lowest Speed characters. Strong=fast. If you don't believe me stand across from an offensive lineman, a 300+ pound guy with a lot of extra fat to go with his huge muscles. Say 'Hike'. You will be flat on your back before you see him move. Being strong doesn't make you think slower (some peoples justification for high speed). Being strong doesn't make you slow. Yes, being musclebound means you're not very agile, but that is basically a Dex thing, not a Speed thing. I think most bricks should have even less Dex and more Speed.
  10. Re: WWII Era Superheroine: American Angel Me not good looking at thing on inter-net. Are there easy to find link-type thing?
  11. Re: WWII Era Superheroes and Villains Darn, when I came up with the idea for my game I must have been subconsciously remembering this thread. I was definitely going to have more Zombie Nazis than it sounds like you're planning on. And quite a few Nazi Zombies as well.
  12. Re: Is it Dex or is it Speed? Munchkinnery. Heh. Munchkinerific. Munchkinadoaboutnothing.
  13. Re: PC Comparisons Trying to keep CV's in line in Hero is one of the most difficult things due to the nature of the bell curve. While +4 in d20 is always a +20% modifier, in Hero its a variable amount in a range of 10% to 40%. CSL's are so cheap and efficient they need to be very carefully analyzed. A firm rule or a reasonably firm guideline, or at least some kind of rough idea needs to be considered and explained to all the players.
  14. Re: Problem with Missile Deflection The typical Missile Deflector is a high dex, high speed guy already pushing the campaign dcv limits and with enough extra phases to abort. Not always, but usually. One important thing Missile D does that DCV doesn't though is allow you to block attacks aimed at someone else. All your extra DCV does when Lazergirl fires her RKA at Defenseless Lad is to interpose yourself, and then get out of the way.
  15. Re: Rant? Speed in Hero Of course, many of my ideas are likely to be simple minded. After all, I've only been playing Hero since 1985.
  16. Re: [Character] Sybyl Ah, and I liked Ing so much......... This seems like the type of character that I wouldn't even bother to put points on. If its necessary for the plot, she knows exactly what the pc's plans are and how to respond. And when it finally comes time for them to beat her then some psych or phys lim applies and they manage to overcome her foreknowledge somehow. I find that if I actually build this type of thing then it turns out to be too powerful and flexible for the pc's to beat. They come up with a plan, I think about whether it would work for a while and then realize that no, it won't. By not actually putting points into the character, when they come up with a cool enough plan, lo and behold, it works. Note that I only do that with this type of foe.
  17. Re: Rant? Speed in Hero This is a good point about the Genie. In the beginning there was a basic concept, that every 5 ap doubled the power of something. Its very easy to forget that 30 strength can lift twice as much as 25 str because it only does 1d6 more damage, and damage is the ability most frequently associated with strength. But this active point ratio holds true (loosely) with all the powers and stats. The easiest examples are DI and Growth, but if you think about this scale applying to ALL powers, even ones that don't seem to have such easy conversions, then you start looking at things differently. Light travels to the eye, the image is transmitted to the brain, the brain analyzes and decides on a response, sends a message to the muscles, and the appropriate action is taken. If you have faster reactions than the best trained human (i.e. higher dex or speed than NCM) somewhere in this loop you must take a shortcut. And with 10 ap per point of Speed, it has to be a hell of a shortcut. And to those people trying to bring real world examples of speed and agility into the discussion, my only question is 'Are those people by any chance 2m tall and massing 100 kg?' In case anyones wondering, no I don't play plodding slugs with NCM. When I'm GM'ing the game is run at the level I described in my initial post, but when I'm playing I usually play characters at the max Speed allowed cause well, its a game. And Speed kills, baby. Speed kills.
  18. Re: Is it Dex or is it Speed? This is a very good point that there is a significant difference between Dex and Speed. Many times if you listen to someone's concept it becomes apparent that while they want to come up with a justification for high Speed, what they usually have is a justification for high Dex. High Dex lets you dodge bullets, run through a room hitting everyone, and many other sustained actions requiring a high CV. High Speed lets you do many different things during a combat (or if you prefer, during any time when the gm uses the Spd chart) which do not have to be related at all.
  19. Re: Mental Absorption Apparently, cause his conversation isn't.
  20. Re: Here is a character for review... Awesome! A 5 Speed, 23 Dex Scientist Brick! Great justifications for having elite commando combat speed and Olympic gymnast agility! Sorry, I've been ranting a lot recently. Suggestions- Raise the active points of your detect a little and slide it into your EC. One power that I've been working on templating for a grav based guy is a TK Explosion with no range which pulls everything around towards him. Yes, by fx you get a lot of junk sticking to you, but you also get aoe grabs vs. martial artists and energy projectors, and even without personal immunity your strength is high enough to allow you to ignore it.
  21. Re: Rope That reminds me, I've got to call Sara.............
  22. Re: [Character] Ing This is probably my favorite of all your character's that I've seen. I do really wonder why he continues to do industrial sabotage as he's so obviously successful, but I suspect that it will eventually be revealed that his long lost love needs to be cured or some such. I do wish you'd put down a few more Disads though, as 900 pt guys should have a few more IMO.
  23. Re: Rant? Speed in Hero Emphasis mine. You take a look at your first post - you said Speed directly correlated to "Combat Experience" not "Combat Potential" or "Ability to act under stress" or anything else. Okay, I'll take a look.................. You are not a quick thinker or a good combatant. You react slowly in pressure situations. You are Speed 1. You are a typical person. You react at normal speeds in pressure situation. You are Speed 2. You have been in many fights. You have been trained to think more clearly and act more efficiently in tense situations. Perhaps you are a police officer or fireman. You are Speed 3. You have received extensive combat training. You may be a black belt or a member of a elite fighting unit. You are Speed 4. Reading is FUNdamental! You see, but do not observe. (space for more meaningless and baseless insults below)
