  1. Re: 300 anti-hydrogen atoms contained for 16 minutes Antimatter has been detected in lightning strikes and many other natural phenomena. The trick is harvesting those miniscule amounts into usable mass. (And BTW it's = it is. The possessive is its -- no apostrophe.)

  5. Re: Super hero one liners Playing CO, there are a couple of snappy comebacks I've been wanting to use with my character, Red Streak. Villain: "Your superpowers are no match for what I have!" (The latter being something like Elder Worm magic or Lemurian technology.) Red Streak: "What about an AK-47?" *BUDDABUDDABUDDABUDDA* Villain: "Do you really think you can stand up against me?" *BUDDABUDDABUDDABUDDA* *THUMP* Red Streak: "Pretty much, yeah." Villain: "You shall die today, human!" *BUDDABUDDABUDDABUDDA* *THUMP* Red Streak: "Dream on."

  10. Re: ampullae of lorenzini It's electrosense, which I think is included in Champions Powers under that very name. For typical ampullae, it would be Detect Electric Field with Discriminatory and (usually) Range, and it would be the basis for its own Sense Group (Electric Sense). It's my favorite "extra sense" for a game or story; I even gave the ability to a character in Realm Hunter: Trail of the Elder Gods.
  11. Re: Stretching Character Art? As far as I've been able to tell' date=' no. I'm pretty sure Jimmy didn't even become Elastic Lad during his stint with superpowers during [i']52[/i] (though I could be mis-remembering). But I'm glad someone mentioned him before I could; it's certainly memory-worthy.
  12. Re: Uh Oh. Whats the story here? Ah, so many Great Pumpkin suggestions here (though I wonder why he'd be after Charlie Brown and not Linus Van Pelt). Clearly there's a Samhain ritual going on here, and it's quite successful. That's the angle I'd give it for a story, with a Lovecraft flavor and perhaps a nod to the Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

  14. Re: Hero Games needs a new printer I'm inclined to agree, and I tend to be overly patient with these things. Delays are one thing, but GenCon is a deadline that simply should not be missed.
  15. Re: If you Had to Pick, ONE (already) Setting, to Run in, What is it? As a Star Hero player, I think I'd most like either Stargate (especially SG:U) or Farscape, depending on what sort of mood I'm after -- the former tended to be more down-to-earth (so to speak), while the latter had a lot of fun elements for stories on the wild side. (Ho hum... someday someone will answer this with Realm Hunter. Probably not until at least the third or fourth book is out, though.)
  16. Re: What could go into a China zone? D'oh! I should have thought of the Cult of the Red Banner and their primary base. That might even be enough to make into an entire Neighborhood. Tournament of the Dragon would work best as a Comic Series, I think. I haven't played the first one yet (I'm going to wait until all the Issues are out, and play them in sequence). I figured DEMON would have activities in the Zone, probably in about half the above-listed Neighborhoods without having one of their own. Similar thing with ARGENT -- I don't think they'd have enough of a presence for their own Neighborhood, but they'd have activities there. Some things could work well if there's a small town (larger than a village, but not big enough to be a full-fledged city) adjacent to the Tiger Squad base. It could be home to the ARGENT outpost/factory, a Buddhist temple with a Contact, some activity involving the Cult of the Red Banner (with leads to their nearby main base), the local Triad's center of operations, and a few other things. I don't think there could be an island base if two of the Neighborhoods are in the Himalayas (unless the island is in the middle of a large lake).
  17. I made mention in the Perfect World thread of the possibility of Cryptic eventually putting up a zone in China. After all, there's already plenty in the published CU that could go in there. It could include the following (and remember that I'm speaking on an entirely hypothetical and speculative basis here): The "home area" would be a base with contacts from the Tiger Squad. The base could be run by them, or by UNTIL; I'm not sure. Shamballah could be in as a neighborhood, with Agharti as a Lair. At least one plot thread is already in place: there are "Shamballah Vampires" in Vibora Bay. Where did such a thing come from? (This would identify what part of China the map is in: near the Himalayas.) There could be a couple of communities of Yeti, facing disagreements similar to what's going on with the Manimals on Monster Island. Yeti are often assumed to be a variant on Sasquatch, so they could use the same in-game build with just cosmetic differences such as color of fur. (This is another Himalayan connection.) Paging through Asian Bestiary Volume I, Chinese Hobgoblins could have their own Neighborhood, both as general troublemakers (possibly part of the conflict with the Yeti) and as part of some larger problem. The Warlord is said (in Champions Worldwide) to be trying to foment an anti-Communist rebellion in China, leading to the possibility of his operating a rebel training camp. If there's a Hzeel crash site in the area, he could easily send people there as well. Dr. Yin Wu could easily have a fortress here, probably at the far edge of the game map, with the various supernatural beings at his command. (And with demons comes DEMON; they're probably up to something in his neighborhood.) Fandao Junzhu ("The Overlord") is mentioned as a Chinese threat in CW, and could be the basis for an Open Mission, a Lair, or both. He could have a base in some remote wilderness area (a Neighborhood of his own), with minions of who knows what kind. Then there's Li Chun the Destroyer, who could probably become the basis for a high-level Open Mission. VIPER is mentioned in CW as having no known activities in China, but that was in 2002 so something might have changed since then. The organization could have a burgeoning Nest, possibly as a training area for their martial arts specialists. There's also no telling what the Elder Worm might be up to. Sure, it's cold in those mountains, but that would make the Himalayas the last place heroes would look for them, and they know it. There could also be ancient Elder Worm artifacts lost in the area, mystical spots that interest them, or geographic requirements for their changing the Earth's environment. That could be enough for a training All that is just from 5th Ed materials, and what I currently know of what's in-game from playing over the past couple of months. That's ten Neighborhoods, which I think should be plenty for a CO Zone, and potential for lots of Chinese-flavored storylines (which should also include UNITY Missions and Nemesis Missions, to the tune of at least a half-dozen each). This doesn't address things that would happen in these Neighborhoods without generating their own, such as whatever Lam Kuei (from CW) is up to, a possible Triad activity or three, interests such as ARGENT or Doctor Destroyer, and so forth. So... what do you all here think could be added, changed, expanded, or whatever else? (Again, remember that this is 100% hypothetical and speculative; as far as I'm aware, nobody at Cryptic has even hinted that there's even been a suggestion, other than my own comment the other day, of doing a China Zone.)

  19. Re: Perfect World acquires Cryptic Studios I had been hoping that, once they'd finished the Moon as a Zone, Cryptic would turn to doing a Zone in China. In reality this probably won't affect this in the slightest, but it does increase that hope. (China in the CU does have much to offer for a Zone: the Tiger Squad, Shamballah and Agarti [where did those Shamballah Vampires in Vibora Bay come from?], Yeti [another Sasquatch village or two], Dr. Yin Wu, the Warlord's activities there, and Li Chun the Destroyer come immediately to mind from 5th Edition materials. A VIPER Nest and a Demonhame could also be inserted, and there's probably plenty of opportunity to insert bits of Chinese lore into the mix.) I also wonder what will happen to the games in the Arcade in Vibora Bay. (If you haven't taken a good look there, and have unlocked that Zone, go take a gander now.) To go directly to topic: unlike the doom-and-gloom naysayers (which come out of the woodwork with just about any notable change), I'll take a wait-and-see attitude. I doubt players will notice much difference -- certainly not in the short term, and probably not much ever that could be ascribed to Perfect World.
  20. Re: Gorilla Grond - from typo's are mighty heroes made (6E) For some reason I'm wanting to see one of the board's many highly talented artists draw a panel from a fight between Gorilla Grond and the Sawed-Off Shogun. "Two heads are better than one-half!"
  21. Re: Gorilla Grond - from typo's are mighty heroes made (6E) Actually, I was thinking to make him a villain -- a would-be world conqueror. (In fact, he may be a future Nemesis for Red Streak, my main CO character.)
  22. Re: Gorilla Grond - from typo's are mighty heroes made (6E) I almost forgot this guy, who I made for another thread quite some time ago: Sawed-Off Shogun!
  23. Re: Create a Villain Theme Team! He was one of the more peaceful of its kind, and craved only nuts. Now he's feral and bestial, and craves meat. He's ten times his original size, and still growing. His fangs are razor-sharp, and he loves to go for the throat. He is... The Vorpal Squirrel! (Really... how surprised are you?)
  24. Re: Off-world crops? I have no expertise in this area, but the number of times soybeans came up in your original post made me think that colonies at this stage of development could be nicknamed "soybean colonies," even if they don't actually grow any soybeans at all.
