  1. Re: Was watching Superman TAS and wondered about Mxyzptlk http://superman.ws/superman-comics/ There used to be another really neat site, but it shut down.
  2. Re: Was watching Superman TAS and wondered about Mxyzptlk Real. Superman #349, July 1980 It's actually online somewhere.
  3. Re: Was watching Superman TAS and wondered about Mxyzptlk I am so not going to mention "The Turnabout Trap!", which was the story when Mxy changed the genders of everybody on Earth, just to mess with Superman's head. Louis Lane and Clara Kent. Oh yeah.
  4. Re: So ... uhm ... Pulp ... yeah. I enjoyed Cancer's rant, but it is, of course, not true. Specifically, he ignores the Hard-Boiled Detective and Horror subgenres. And probably espionage to boot. Go and watch the Maltese Falcon a time or two, then read some HP Lovecraft. I was tempted to write: "and play some Call of Cthulhu", but realised that wasn't really appropriate. Play some low-powered Pulp Hero horror scenarios instead. And Doc Savage was Mr Super-Intelligence personified.

    Pulparize It!

Re: Pulparize It! Farscape would work as an Edgar Rice Burroughs style interplanetary adventure as well.
  6. Re: Got some buildin' exercises for ya... That's not bad. It would work particularly well for the pre-Carole Danvers version, when all she had was her mimic abilities. As an NPC though, I would probably be lazy and go with the Multiform option, since I would know whose powers she was likely to mimic, and what the result would be. But then, point totals aren't important for NPCs anyway, so a more elaborate build would be an option too. As a PC, well... I don't think she would work in a point-limited game. Unless WhammeWhamme's suggestion is viable.
  7. Re: WWYCD?: You Shall Be Mine, My Love... Assault would take away his Ping Pong Ball Gun.
  8. Re: [Campaign] 'This Mutant Life' - An Uberworld Campaign Teachers? I may have to reconsider my character submission.
  9. The headline says it all: 'Lost world' may be Earth's last http://www.abc.net.au/science/news/stories/s1565276.htm No dinosaurs or giants apes though. Just think, newly discovered lost worlds and Egyptian tombs... What a great time to play a pulp game.
  10. Re: Best published adventure A very good summary. Lots of potential - but totally unrealised.
  11. Re: Golden Age Champions I'm not particularly bothered about the absence of non-US heroes. If I need them, I'll make them up, or lift them from other sources. One thing I would like to see though is at least some coverage of the post-war period. Of course this eventually gets into the territory that would be covered by Silver Age Champions, but still... Funnily enough, most of the Australian Golden Age superheroes seem to have been post-war.
  12. Re: Silver Age Villains? #2: plus lots and lots of Aliens! In fact, to randomly generate a Silver Age villain, roll on the following table: Roll 1d6. +1 if Superman: 1-2: Theme villain. 3-4: Alien invader. 5-6: Giant Robot or Monster. 7+: Lois Lane or Jimmy Olsen. Edit: I'll have to dig out my Silver Age scenario generator again...
  13. Re: Cosmic Threats DC's cosmology seems to be a bit less defined, but Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair and Delirium would rate pretty high up the totem pole. There's also the Source (Fourth World), the Voice that commands the Spectre, Rama Kushna (Deadman's boss) and, of course, weenies like the Lords of Order and Chaos. All of these are god-level entities, but, it would appear, none of them are actually at the top of the heap...
  14. Re: Supe it up! An alternative: In the year 1997, the Robinson family takes off in the Jupiter 2, America's first colonization mission to Alpha Centauri. However, a spy for a foreign country, Dr. Zachary Doom, sneaks on board and sabotages the mission by reprogramming the ship's robot to destroy the Jupiter 2 after launch. Due to a surge in cosmic rays, unusual solar flare activity and an abnormally high neutrino count, the humans are transformed in powerful entities. Crashing back to Earth, the Robinson family soon gain the reputation of being "The World's Greatest Superhero Team!" (This actually gives an interesting Incredibles feel, doesn't it?)
  15. Re: movies/t.v. vs comic books Lana Lang was Superboy's romantic interest. Supposedly he didn't meet Lois until he moved to Metropolis. Lois and Lana have also been protrayed as rivals for Superman's affections. http://supermanica.info/wiki/index.php/Lana_Lang http://supermanica.info/wiki/index.php/Lois_Lane Incidentally, there's a longstanding theme that most of the important women in Superman's life have the initials LL. An example of this is the mermaid Lori Lemaris: http://supermanica.info/wiki/index.php/Lori_Lemaris
  16. Re: Steam Toys The Victorian RPG resource I use the most is Chaosium's Cthulhu by Gaslight. There's also Marcus Rowland's Forgotten Futures http://www.forgottenfutures.com/ Incidentally, I've just noticed this page: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/forgottenfutures/kings/kings.htm There's got to be a Pulp scenario in there, surely? Oh yeah. There's also Western Hero. EDIT: And the Flashman books!
  17. Re: Pulp Reading List The Maltese Falcon, or some similar hard-boiled detective story. Of course, it might be easier just to show them the movie. One of Raymond Chandler's stories might be a good alternative.
  18. Re: Best Books of the Silver Age
  19. Re: Is Crimefighting Ethical? Yes. Or even a small group of people. We are rather obviously off in supervillain land when this kind of stuff is going on.
  20. Re: Is Crimefighting Ethical? And I'd probably pull on the tights and try and stop you. Although it might depend which "badly-run Third World country" you chose. At least I might hold off for a while in some cases. In other cases I'd come at you like an atomic powered berserker... Aside from stomping empire builders, I would probably just concentrate on humanitarian projects. Hmm... of course, stopping empire builders would require me to do some serious combat training, and build up a support team. The training would require taking time off from the humanitarian work, but the team could be established through the contacts made during it.
  21. Re: Best supporting non-super character in comics? Yep. Another exercise in stupidity in the current wave of stupidity. Another non-super I like: Holly, from Catwoman.
  22. Re: Best supporting non-super character in comics? Woozy Winks, of course. Even with powers. Jimmy Olsen. He managed to sustain his own series for decades. Some of his stories truly rocked. Lois Lane, for similar reasons. Lana Lang - honourable mention. Alfred. Commissioner Gordon. Funky Flashman! Dan "Terrible" Turpin. I'll leave out the Newsboy Legion, since they were originally stars rather than supporting cast.
