  1. Re: How to do a weapon that has a free trip attack? (extra) knockback, used only to try to force a breakfall roll or fall in place
  2. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Epic level D&D: Player A has a Solar with Commune at will Player B has a half dragon/giant and has taken damage that has turned him mostly glowing transparent, with the effect increasing when healed. The party has convinced the Solar to Commune so we can ask if we've completed our mission on this plane. Player B keeps interrupting to ask player A to ask about his transformation. (He's being turned into a Celestial, and previous questions have shown that the gods of Good consider this a good thing.) DM: Any other questions? Player B: Ask if I should complete the transformation. Player A: Will someone smack him? DM: Remember, god is talking to you. You can answer whatever you like. Player B: Will my wings grow feathers? Player A: YES! Player B: Hey! You answered too quickly!
  3. Re: Please help name this Hero Duck theme... so it must be Captain Launchpad
  4. Re: Help!! It depends . Your total slot use can't go over the reserve, so if you want to use a bigger power or more than one at a time, you want to increase the reserve. If you just want to increase a slot that doesn't use the full reserve (yet), then you can just use experience to up that slot. Nothing says all the slots have to cost the same. Of course, with the massive slot discount, you will often (but not always) be able to increase the reserve, and then increase slots to match without their price going up.
  5. Re: Can I have some suggestions on this character? Uncle Samurai I'd maybe put Real Armor (-1/4) on the armor, and put the points saved in strength. Samurai might have been casual killers, but that was cultural... it doesn't work as well for a US Patriot. Replace with Honorable or some sort of Samurai Code.
  6. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... D&D: party is being mauled by a large pack of (Romero) zombies led by an "identical looking" one powerful enough to challenge us by itself. PC (Evil ur-priest): I read my scroll of Gate, and call for a Solar (extremely powerful servant of Good) DM: ... A Solar steps through the gate. It looks at you. It looks at the zombies. It turns to you and says, "I'll be back for you later." and attacks the zombies. The evil PC runs away. The zombies are defeated and the Solar kindly true resurrects our dead before flying off after the evil PC. Next week, his player comes with a new psionicist character instead...
  7. Re: How much of a Limitation...? I think there's a link somewhere to the HD demo still... you can't save or print, but it's still good for testing constructs and math . Try using Force Field instead of armor... as previously noted, powers that don't inherently cost END aren't supposed to be in ECs.
  8. Re: How much of a Limitation...? Depends... "only able to use when" sounds like a limited power (conditional). Without knowing the character's defenses, I'd give it maybe -1/2 to -1. "only activates when" sounds like No Conscious Control (-2), but I'd also require RE: 0, always on, persistent The difference being with the first, the character needs to have a (free) action to turn the EC on, while the second would kick in immediately (and stay on even after being stunned or KO'd, of course)
  9. Re: A character for your perusal FRED 309, the start of the Equipment section. telepathy against normals, you could try for the +20 success level so the target doesn't notice. Not sure if you have enough dice then though .
  10. Re: A character for your perusal You can save a few points by buying the duplicate weapons with the 5 point equipment doubler. Then spend some for invisible power effects on the telepathy multipower. Maybe consider Beam for the weapons. Also, he seems rather lacking in non- lethal weaponry... no nightstick or tazer, etc? Low defenses... not even a bulletproof vest?
  11. Re: Critique power please -1/4 Feedback (from Duplication) character shares STUN taken by the possessed body. For that matter, you might be able to build it with duplication instead of mind control (+1 altered duplicate to copy the target, useable as attack, -1/4 feedback, costs END so it turns off if you're KO'd, side effects XDM to somewhere only mental powers work so a mentalist could fight back)
  12. Useable By Others? Although I find it odd that a skateboard should be Inaccessible Focus
  13. Well, it's been a few months since it got that bad... he just seems to always have to have some sort of secret mission or other advantage. IIRC: Player: I cast a spell. Rest of Party: What are you doing? Player: I don't have to tell you. GM: What are you casting? Player: I don't have to tell you. (!) GM: Yes you do, I'm the GM. Player: No I don't, nothing visible has happened yet. GM (annoyed now): Tell me, I'm the GM. Just because I know doesn't mean the monsters I'm running have to know. Player: I can't tell you. (eventually GM convinces him that they can leave the room so he can tell without the rest of the party hearing what it was) I don't remember exactly what it was, some minor buffing spell that should've been visible to the rest of us, I think. Currently the only campaign where we let him play, he's got the "good" party cleric... which it took the rest of us less than one session to guess that she's actually a servant of the evil death cult side of her goddess.
  14. ... why no range shells? I'm pretty sure hitting someone with an unfired pellet shell does a lot less than firing it, and if your specials can go off that easily it's probably a bad idea to be holding it when you hit someone. Other than that, multipower, 1 charge, some huge number of clips... ... and 5 points to double the number of barrels. (and clips) I'd give it a -0 limitation, must preselect loaded clip (although it can be different for each barrel) and a +0 advantage, can swap clips between the two barrels. Of course, since it'd take a partial action to reload for each barrel, you might want 2 charges with clips instead... that way it'd only take a single action to reload, but I'd say both barrels would have to have the same type of shell then. Your GM might rule otherwise. Although then you'd also need to add autofire instead of being able to fire both single barrels as a multi-power attack...
  15. The player (who often GMs) who refuses to define what he's doing... ("I start casting a spell", "I activate an item") especially when we ask and he refuses to tell exactly what he's doing even when it's the game's current GM doing the asking.
  16. Doesn't really work as written... you can't link a framework to a framework. Which you haven't quite, but as written it'd be a 7d6 attack plus an 8d6 attack, not a 15d6 attack. Not that he seems limited to using the same slot for both . It sounds like what you're trying to build is a partially limited power... 15d6 with x10 END on everything above 7d6. Which requires a 112 point multipower and I think some tweaking to write the base cost, compound powers for the slots... Maybe replace AOE 1 hex with LOS or No Range Penalty. Or not.
  17. Heh. Tried to use HD 2.23 to see what the multipower and regeneration would look like as an EC 10 Elemental Control, 20-point powers 4 1) Regeneration: Healing 1d6, Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Persistent (+1/2) (20 Active Points); Self Only (-1/2), Does Not Work On Some Damage Two or More Types of Damage (fire; -1/2), Extra Time (Delayed Phase, -1/4) Notes: No Healing Max (see FREd p. 120). Had to select two or more for the -1/2... just fire would only be -1/4. Probably only a point or two difference anyway. 25 2) Invisibility to Sight and Hearing Groups , No Fringe (35 Active Points) 3 HD apparently considers IR and UV part of the sight group, saving 10 points. 12 3) HKA 1d6 (2d6 w/STR), Affects Desolidified Any form of Desolidification (+1/2) (22 Active Points) 2 Not sure why your 1d6 HKA +1/2 is 37 AP 10 4) FF (10 PD/10 ED) (20 Active Points) 2 13 5) HA +4d6, Affects Desolidified Any form of Desolidification (+1/2) (30 Active Points); Hand-To-Hand Attack (-1/2) 3
  18. Is he planning to expand the multipower? Right now, I think the cost would be the same to just take them out and buy them seperately (with the advantage of being able to throw both in a multiple power attack). The leaping seems excessive... not that wuxia leaps aren't huge... but I think they're also slow. Can't really say noncombat leaping, since they do fight in midair... maybe Gradual? Maybe damage reduction in the 25% range. Enlightenment Dangersense or mind scan, No Conscious Control ("I knew he was going to do that")
  19. Hm, I thought +HA didn't add to martial maneuvers, you need +DCs for that. It'd also be more amusing to have 75% damage reduction instead of the force field... since in MK blocked attacks always do a sliver of damage. Although, since this guy can potentially get an 18 DCV, I don't see a lot of attacks hitting anyway...
  20. What do you Accidental Change to? Not sure if you really need a full 45 resistant defenses. Going slightly lower and adding hardened could annoy those 6d6 AP RKA agents more . Regeneration is cheaper in 5th for real points. It's the change from +20 from death to +20 from death with +1 of required advantages (making from death +40 active points) that makes it expensive.
  21. It doesn't seem necessary to me... you could just add on Extra Time, Concentration, and Requires Skill Roll... giving an extra -1/2 or -1 on top of that seems overkill.
  22. Most CRPG's are comparable to a pre-made scenario... the author usually has only a limited area to plot out all the possibilities. Especially when character choices are open-ended... most likely the game won't be written with each class getting it's own set of choices. Video games aren't inherently bad GMs, a GM who exactly follows a pregenerated scenario is almost as bad. Also, there are video games (NWN for instance) that can allow for human GM intervention. Once in a while there are some pretty good CRPG's as well... Planescape: Torment, where depending on what you did in the game, you had a couple ways of talking your way to "winning" the game, or several ways of getting/boosting your companions for the last fight. Then again, you and your possible companions were pretty preset...
  23. Variable advantage up to +1... ranged 1/2, indirect 1/2. What arm lock? Eeks... they're all HKA+str too, making that first one a 6d6 HKA with only average (10) str. Campaign limits? Other possibilities for TK blades would be Invisible Power effects and/or HKA NND Does Body (defenses Force Field or TK ability)
  24. How exactly do you restrain someone generating TK blades anyway? Other than perhaps mental entangles...
  25. Interesting points about your GM I haven't heard of a lot of diseases and poisons caught simply for going into space before... and note that LS specifically says "terrestrial", so I'm not sure if it'd protect you anyway. There are downloadable prefabs available for HD... not much for powers, but regeneration is one. Unless you meant for it to have a limit of 12 and no extra time limitation . Speaking of 6d6RKAs, I notice that your defenses, while high, are only resistant from your multipower armor slot. There is a "Novice Hero" example disad, I think it's in Champions. (my book is currently on loan) Personally, I wouldn't build all my ranged attacks with charges. Then again, you'd probably be very effective with move throughs anyway. You know what, I think I've got a hero with space capability I only gave LS self contained breathing to. I think adding LS vacuum, heat, cold is probably sufficient though.
