  1. This is a rather esoteric question concerning Multiform and... multiples of form. When you buy the power you get 2 forms, correct? Or 'one alternate form' plus your basic form? The question arises: For 5 points would I have 4 total forms (x2 alt forms per 5 pts), or 3 (initial form, doubled, excluding Base form)? Considering how easy it is to exploit I limit the power to +1 form for 5 points rather than a doubling (since 15 points can get you 14+ forms!) as a campaign house-rule. Likewise for Duplication.
  2. Do they exist? If so, where can I download? There's a good number of pages of campaign design sheets in the 4e rulebook, but I have yet to find any at all in the 5e rulebook. :/
  3. I saw someone mention this mechanic in passing, but a forum search brought up so many threads I couldn't weasel it out... How do you manage resource pools to give the characters a broad selection of items that they can buy, without their going overboard and buying everything their finances & accessability perks allow? I am contemplating a rough encumberance rule, and security rule (can't sneak a gun into many places, after all, unless you want trouble) to limit what they can carry and where. I just don't want characters buying a whole *rack* of Assault Rifles and hauling it around in their car just because they, technically, can. Current I am contemplating a resource Perk: 1pt per 10 points of 'Standard Equipment' (stuff readily available in markets that their fringe benefits & financial level will allow them access to). Yes, the character can just go out and buy a radio, but even the best one on the market won't be 'quite' as good as the radio built into a power suit or other power purchased with Character Points. And it'll be: OAF, Independant, Fragile, Real Item... ect. Ideas?
  4. Re: Lets talk about Multiforms, true forms focus If you pay the 50 active points for the multiform, then yes, you have a 250pt second form. If you only pay 10 ap you only recieve a 50pt second form, and all multiples of that multiform thereafter are limited to 50 points or less. That is what I am trying to clarify. Choosing multiform does not give you, by default, a second form with the same base points as the original purchasing form. Selecting a multiplicative subform based on the original multiform, if it is 150+100, gives you whatever additional forms at that level, not the original (purchasing) form. As a GM I would not allow a 'less than optimal point' form to get away without disads, unless it was taking on the already existing disads of the original (primary) form. Otherwise the secondary, and all additional, forms would require a 2/1 ratio of points & disads. Otherwise the primary form could have a whole host of secondary forms with no weaknesses whatsoever.
  5. Re: Yet Another Build Question: rubber-morph going splat True. Depending on how the character defines both. With this fellow, let's say, falling and knockback are the same... he takes damage from hitting things on his way from point A (rooftop or impact) to point B (wall, ground, car, ect ect). Falling is nothing more than vertical KB, after all. Lets say that the KB resistance does not prevent the KB from moving him, it only mitigates the damage he takes by striking obstacles. Pretty much the same as if he jumped from a building and went splat. The Inches of KB resistance become Dice of damage reduction, but no 'only to resist KB/Falling damage' limiter since it's already specific to that damage type. Since KB resist is only 2 points per inch I would actually think making this use of it as a damage reduction mechanic an adder at +1/2 to make its cost equitable to rD. One of the earliest games I played with this system the party blaster had this... He was, litterally, a featherweight. He took double KB from every attack, but also had KB resistance to reduce the damage he took by hitting things, not to prevent how far he flew. The schtic was his way of getting away from the primary combat zone by letting his enemies push him away. He still ended up stunned by KB quite often because of the Double KB disad, though.
  6. Re: if you have ranged on your missle reflection, you can play ping-pong with yoursel No ammount of missile deflection will affect the planet... because you are the missile. The planet deflects you, not the other way around. I've used various methods to get around going splatter when falling, generally as a defensive mechanism Only While Unconscious with zero-accelleration & turn factor midifiers (under 4e rules), or Zero Relative Velocity under 5e. Alternatively you can purchase several inches of KB resistance with the Only to counter falling damage limiter... or not. I can see your latex char having a generalized degree of KB resistance without falling limiters because he just deforms when struck.
  7. Re: Lets talk about Multiforms, true forms focus We're both wrong:
  8. Re: Mental Deflection Yep, exactly. Unless the guy had the appropriate Power Defense, or Personal Immunity. Essentially it's a really, really strong deterrant to the attacking mentalist to leave the brick well enough alone. The initial target might still be lying face down anyway, with a total EDV of like... 2? As for the damage shield idea... how do you make 'missile reflection' into a damage shield usable at range (back at the attacker)?
  9. Re: Fromage? Hmmm, something I haven't read yet in the 5er rulebook... If I have, say, a power suit or whatnot with an END reserve, does all of that END go poof when my power suit guy takes a tencount? How would I define it, advantage wise, so that his END is not lost when he gets KO'd? What sort of REC do I buy for it (certainly not the normal REC if the suit is independant of the pilot)? Would the suit make its recoveries normally while the char is KO? How could I purchase powers persistant yet still burn END while the pilot is unconscious (such as flight, FF, ect ect?) where 'continuous' does not work... or would it?
  10. Re: Lets talk about Multiforms, true forms focus I would assume this to be incorrect. The ratio would remain the same depending on GM judgment (in this case 1/3 of the total points are disads). Since the multiform or non-hero ID is only 50 points (10 ap) I would figure on a 30/20 point spread. I had another thread talking about multiforms and how freakishly easy it is to munchkin that to a scary degree. 4e rules were cumbersome as heck for multiform but with some work turned out well. 5er is much more streamlined, but easier to abuse. How does this deal with psych lims (if the 'multiform amnesia' flaw is not taken) and DNPCs or other disadvantages that don't change with the form, or really don't have any physical connection with the Hero like a DNPC, Hunted, ect? As I see it Perks have to be purchased by all forms except the following: Resources, Followers (not Contacts), and other 'third party' perks that retain their existance regardless of the PC's form. Especially things accessable to one, like resources, don't magically go 'poof' when they change forms so only need to be purchased for one form. It's up to the GM to throw up stumbling blocks to using perks and disads that spread across all forms, of course unless they *are* purchased for all forms. How do you GMs deal with Disadvantages (Vuln, Sucept, Hunted, ect) that can be easily sidestepped by a form switch if both forms do not share them.
  11. Re: Mental Deflection How would you purchase this: Mental Reflection (attack reflected to attacker only) - the Hero takes the damage normally, as if not deflected, but that damage is reflected back to the attacker as an NND & Penetrating attack (to the limit of the damage recieved). Example: Idiot is struck by MindSquid's 5d6 Ego-Blast, taking 12 points of affect after his pretty much zero-defense v/ ECV, but that 12 points is reflected back at MindSquid as an NND Penetrating mental attack. Caveat: If MindSquid has 'Personal Immunity' he escapes the reflection.
  12. Re: Lets talk about Multiforms, true forms focus Speaking of 'Multiform', which appears to be a rather common way of creating a Hero and their non-heroic alter ego in some of my campaigns. Each form gets different disads, correct? For example: The Hero has a 150+100 heroic-ID, and a 50 pt Normal Human multiform, would need to have a similar ratio for the human form's disads (30+20 or somesuch), correct? Would it be logical for the Hero to have 'Secret ID' as a disad? Or 'Only in Hero ID' for any of their powers (I disallowed this)?
  13. Re: Surviving a Fire Ah hah, very interesting. I had not thought about the 'read the fire' abilities... As for 'bringing the fire with him'... I don't envision it (for him). I have not considered his Hero-ID SFX too greatly (the character I'm basing this concept off of was literally a 'Fire Dog'. The tips of his fur would singe off and grow back instantly, rendering him immune, ect.)
  14. Re: Surviving a Fire The primary intention of this character was a firefighter... he literally walks into burning buildings, which I pretty much intend to make him wholly immune to (and perhaps his personal equipment or as the person above said enough area to carry out the damsel-in-distress). Up to something, say, like an oil refinery fire or similar deadly infernos, but he's not going to be wandering around Chernobyl. Hmmm, which begs the question: If he's in a building full of AmFo or generally unstable explosive chems and it goes boom... how immune would he be? When it comes to being in the path of a direct fire-based attack he'd be immune to the 'heat' of the attack, but not the 'energy' involved (being that it is not just a fire, it's a focused blast of the stuff aimed at him). So I was thinking: Safe Environment: Inferno Self Contained Breathing: Toxic Gasses Thermal Imaging (Enhanced Sight Group) Discriminatory Smell (Targeting) - To pinpoint accellerants, gas leaks, ect. KB resistance 6" (explosion resistance) 50% DR Aborption to (?) All of it being Only vs. Fire/Heat SFX. The Absorb is intended to mitigate any spillover that the DR misses, but not perfectly. I don't want it to boost his defensive or offensive capabilities, however, so I am not exactly sure where to put the accumulated Absorption. His Thermal Imaging sight can default see through walls, or do I need to add an advantage to reflect this? Note that it's only going to work in a burning environment not while he's fighting a Pyro unless the guy's lit the place afire.
  15. Re: Aborting to Shrinking I think the general consensus is thus: Aborting (to anything) that offers a DCV bonus: Yes Sacraficial Aborting that can be used to intercept an attack: Yes Aborting to a power that affects the target (damage or whatnot): Generally No. All of the above depending on GM discretion... if it fits the story but not exactly the rules, fudge it a bit.
