  1. Re: Super Smell you can either do telescopic, megascale, or just a REALLY high perception roll just for you smell group. there are also some funky ways of doing it, like clairsentience... (you should probably have targeting and discrimitory, and depending on how good it really is, then analyze too) edit: if you only want to to work on blood (perhaps a vampire ot werewolf-esque guy?) then you can just buy them with the limitation "only for smelling blood"
  2. Re: Learning Hero dunno, I've been trying to find out, I even asked int eh company questions section which has yet to be answered. but there is the Hero Combat Simulator, that alos imports the hero creater files or allows players to create characters on their own, its somewhere on this site, forget where though...
  3. Re: Ben 10 (again!) well, in that case, allow me to offer my services. I can code up pages for you in asp.net 2.0 or (x)html with CSS and Javascript (and I don't mean one of those crummy pages that use tables for layout, my code is effecient). I have free time coming up and can easily build atleast one page per day starting right away and if you don't want a complex site then I could probably code it all this weekend (weekends for me start on fridays). you provide the content and if you have some desired layouts or look and so forth I can make it work. otherwise I can just put simple formatting and ease of use features in if you don't care about how it looks. the only thing I can't provide for you right now is hosting, but that isn't hard to get. anyway, so this doesn't get derailed, if you are interested, email me at Insaniac99@gmail.com edit: just to be clear, I'm not expecting or wanting any payment, I just ask that I'm allowed to point others to your site if they want to see examples of work I've done (I've had one person who didn't like this idea so i though I'd mention it just in case)
  4. Re: Ben 10 (again!) so.... what is your website? i didn't see it posted and I like the writeups of yours that I've seen so far.
  5. Re: My first Champions campaign for sailor moon here is some generic info of the character's various incarnations (if wanted I'll post more after I get some sleep (there are multiple series, each which follow the same basic concepts but the specifics changes, such as how smart or dumb characters are, and their power levels, one version the saiolor moon has two different transformations one who is weak for a superhero but retains the original kid's personality and one who is really powerful but also has a 100% different personality from the everyday schoolgirl:) also while this is a guideline on how she would be statted up accurately she isn't high enough power to compete with the standard super heroes so if your player wants to play sailormoon properly statted up then she's out of luck but hopefully she just wants to play someoen Like her, or more likely she won't know the proper write power level anyway so she won't care if you power her up to be about equal (also the super attacks she uses in the show aren't plot devices those are built as A coordinated attack and or by buying a large attack with the limitation that it requires the other senshi to use) Personality is that of a middle/highschool girl (depending on which show) Semi klutsy and not a genius by any stretch (10 int at most, depends on which show again in one she couldn't even write legibly) only has basic kids abilities outside of heroic ID In heroic ID she can become much braver and more inteligent, again depending on the show(it may be apropriate for a Multiform if her personality is radically different) around 20 Str, no more than 20 con becase they got stunned easily, lots of dex though, she'll be one of the martial artists of the group give lots of leaping, combat luck, and choose some martial arts to give her. she needs a healing spell (perhaps a few variations like a strong healing spell, and decent AoE one, so forth) and one to three ranged attacks (the sailor Senshi never had much variation in attacks), a lot of CSL jsut for the ranged attacks because they rarely miss the teamwork ability is needed as that is the main way the sailor soldiers managed to do damage to any semi big enemies I'd spend left over points on either buying more martial arts skills, DCs, and combat skill levels ot (preferably) making the non-heroic character more useful to the team, but then she wouldn't realy be sailor moon. (sorry if it is difficult to understand me, I am really tired, I'm come back later and revise it)
  6. Re: Learning Hero 1: Welcome! I started playing hero around 2000 myself, but was lucky enough to get a guy who lives near me teach me how to play and GM me an another couple guys, I met him by asking if any players were in my area. you might talk to your FLGS owners and ask about any other players in your area, you never know and may be suprised by the results. 2: do not be afraid to ask questions here, everyone here is friendly and eager to help. 3: I foudn that everythign is alittle bit confusing and abstarct untill you actually use it in a game, where it suddunly clears up. Your experience may be different but I found that just gathering everyone together and playing thourgh a game is the fastest way to teach someone. just use Sidekick, without all the addiional rules and don't be affraid to look things up in the full book if you have a problem with the ways powers interact.
  7. Re: Still preordering? I belive the pre-orders are over, but according to my understanding, (and I could be wrong) there are going to be books left-over after the pre-order so you might be able to order a copy if you keep an eye on the website for when the ordering starts. wish I could be of more help, but atleast I'll be bumping this post for one of the staff to see when they aren't at the Con.
  8. Re: Casual Survey: Age of players and Hero's utility vs. other games I'm probably the youngest one who is a GM, I'm 22 and have been playing Hero since around 1999. I've yet to see anything that can't be done in hero, I'll watch movies and TV shows just mentally statting up the world and characters.
  9. Re: Adice for building a Gadgeteer please.
  10. Re: Adice for building a Gadgeteer please. yeah that counts as a VPP, this new player is a fast learner though, after we play for a month (tis about 5 gaming sessions or so for us) I'm planning on allowing players to change their characters if they know enough fo the system and he might get to have a small VPP
  11. Re: Adice for building a Gadgeteer please. Thanks for the replies! I ended up giving the character a 16 slot multi-power that has a -2 lim based on jkwleisemann's sugestion (he can only choose 4 till he gets to the lab), I'm going run the character for a few sessions and will revise him if I find it is unbalanced. again thank you all for your help! as a side note I'm really happy because I have a years worth of campaign ideas I get to try out (once we do a few simple scenarios to get everyone used to the system and tone of the campaign) and it looks like this will be the biggest group I've ever had (face to face anyway) with somewhere around 5-7 players.
  12. I'm building a gadgeteer for a new player who I don't want to have a VPP (or atleast not a big one, if I have points let over I might give a small onee) however I am getting befuddled on how to apprpriately model the effect I want. let me do some 'splaining The way I envision it is the character has a lab with a bunch of different gadgets (multi-power or VPP), but he can only choose to take a few (3-4) at a time, if he wants to get different gadgets he has to fly all the way back to the base to switch out, obviously that is extremely inconvienent. now the only thing I can come up with is a 180-240 point multipower with the limitation OAF for the gadgets(-1) and the closest I can find to do the lim of changing in lab is the "can only change in lab (-1/2)" designed for VPPs that, to me, doesn't seem a right level of a disadvantage for it, after all a hero who wanted to go for effectiveness over character concept build can easily get tons more powers and gadgets just by doing the standard 60 point MP without any lims. so what would an appropriate level be that would also be accepted in most campaigns? or is there a better way of modeling it without using a VPP? (again I really don't want to have the character's main set of powers be a VPP, I'd have to hold his hand while he learns the rules, and once he learns them I have to constantly make sure he doesn't abuse them since I don't know what type of gamer he is yet.) Or is there just something I'm missing and -1/2 is actually an apropriate lim for that disadvantage? thanks again, both for the help you guys have given me in the past, and in advance for this question. ADDITIONAL: in case I didn't make it clear, I also envision the character only being able to use one weapon at a time, as he has to use his hands for each one, whether to hold the sonic blaster or pull the pin in a concussion grenade or similiar. so it fuctions almost exactly like a regular multi-power, except the character is limited in the number of options he takes each time he heads out
  13. Re: Standard levels for unusual defenses? thanks for the help so far, I'm re-writing the character with all of the above in mind, I'll post again if I have more questions, I really appreciate it.
  14. (question in bold since I rambled a little bit) Hi I'm helping my players write up their characters since they have little to no experience with Hero system. one player is a mentalist who (like most mentalists) crumple against a regular attack from an equally powerfull EB or similiar. that is the easy part, she has normal stats for all but her speed, int and Ego so her 20 pd/ed forcefield keeps her from being killed, but a standard 12d6 roll cold-***** her (she has 20 stun). what I don't want is that she is immune to all mental abilities too, so what are the ranges for mental defense in a standard (200+150) superheroic campaign? I assume power defense would have the same range. I need to take off now, but thank you for the help, any clarifications needed I'll post when I get back.
  15. Re: A couple Questions from a (semi) old herophile Thanks for the welcome back and the help so far, the master list you linked is indeed the exact one I was thinking of, do they have any of their lists (including the powers section which is new) in a PDF or word format? last year before the update started I had saved each individual webpage as a PDF which was an immense hassel.. I'll PM Mr. Cain aobut his lists too, they are very helpful for my new players in Re to Hero designer three, It looks that when I purchase a hero designer it will be three, I'll probably wait till I inherit someone's laptop (they're planning to upgrade to a new laptop later this year) at which point I'll install the Hero combat simulator too. I do have a few questions about somethign else though (though I should probably ask this in the company questions section), I'm interested in the champions 25th anniversery package that is in pre-order right now, but is it only available online, or will it be released to our FLGS too? is it a fully limited run? I know you can get a numbered copy but it sounds like only the numbered part is limited? I really want to get it from my FLGS, mainly because he lets me put stuff on layaway so I can pay the 100 bucks a little at a time, while still reserving myself a copy.
  16. Hi everyone! Though many of you may not know/remember me I played hero up until about a year ago. Now I finnally found a group to start gaming with and I have a few questions so I thought I would consolodate them here. first, I'm trying to decide on whether or not to buy Hero designer, I only really used the beta of v1 and I want to know more about v2 and v3. If I decide to buy it (which I'm still undecided on) I'm leaning towards buying v2 (it's availble at my FLGS) because I saw lots of files availble for it for free, and it is a one time purchase and so forth, but I'd like to know more about both from people who have been using them. what advantages does using hero designer have over the excel spreadsheets that are available? I use the char sheet and the power calc ones the most. also, what about premade disadvantages in both of them? so any info you guys can provide me there will be helpful. second, back when I stopped someone was creating a database of physical, psychological, and social disadvantages, called the "master list of ______ limitations" my old links for that site are no longer good, so anyone have the new link, or if it died, is there a saved copy that someone made? on a related note, what are some of the good sites or utilities I might want to look into? while I'm primarily interested in the free stuff since If I don't like it I've lost nothign but my time, if there are any good programs that you have to pay for then I'm still interested, I'm just less likely to use them due to money. thanks in advance for the help, if I have any more questions I'll post them here.
  17. Re: Tank chargen: low-strength, high-soak I actually ran a character like this, he had a blaster that had two settings, wide and Narrow. the wide was a normal EB, while the Narrow was a RKA It had two clips of I think 12 shots. and he was invulnerable, full LS, 75 DR with 15 defenses (3 above the DC limit), but he had some absorb into stun and a 1d6 regeneration for the (very) rare times where he took body I lost the sheet, but I can rewrite him if anyone is intrested.
  18. Re: Removing the Speed Chart dude that's awesome do you still have it? I wanna see it!!!! and I know what you mean aobut morning, except I haven't had any sleep this night.,..
  19. Re: WWYCD #86 (I think) eh, Meteor Man would gather them, but he woudln't Kill them, (total CVK) instead he would get a mystic to help him find where the portal would open, then use his Contacts at Primus to get a BUNCH of help placed where the portal will open. this entity will get a rude suprise when he crosses over to find ~50% of the heroic poulation waiting at the gate, including his master, Orion, the protector of the Universe....
  20. Re: What would your character do #88 well, right now Metrogaurd doesn't really ahve a Leader, Athena is labled as Official, but she doesn't really Lead, and my character is kinda a "take charge" but anyway the response would be the same no matter who it was, especially considering another of the Heroes is only in High-school Meteor Man's Secret Id (well this time, the first Meteor mand died saving the rest of the team and a few otehrs from a nuclear explosion) is a Psycologist for supers. he would probably be the first person to see that the thing was a charade, and so keep all the other team mebers away, and set up Barriers so they coudln'thear or see what was going on. he would wait till the hero recovered and then have a long talk with the Hero about whether he wants to continue his Charade, ask him if he wants the rest of the team to know, let him know that he has earned his place in the team regardless of his age. and bassically let him choose what he wants to do. this would all be done in a phyciatric like setting and M.M. would provide counsel to him, then would go with whatever the Hero decided, even if it meant not informing the rest of the team.
  21. Re: What would your character do #83 ? the problem is, that the campaigns where they call on teammates to help them seem to be a Golden or Silver Age setting, while the others are bronze or Iron age.
  22. Re: Wwycd? #82 Meteor man (came up with him before I heard of the Hero verions) is a GL kidda gy except there are only two rings at any time, the all-powerful master (probably has a 1000 CPP not including the control cost, current goes by the name Orion) and the aprentice, who is well me, and learnign to use the ring. ) any way, M.M. would just Megascale TP to the satalites soon as he heard about the attack and smash them with his body drain.
  23. Re: Proposed Rule Change for 5th Ed Rev. flexible Power point of origin Steve please actually, Ironman, Batman, Green Arrow, Greenlantern, superman, and Cyclops all fit in either the Focus catagory, or the SFX implied origin*. however, can't the Human torch shoot flame out of either hand? does he always have to use both hands, or always the right right hand? the same goes for Iceman. I see what Wanderer is gettting at, but I haven't actually found a reason for my chatacters to buy the flexible point of origin, the munchkin in me says what real bennefit do you get that is worth the loss of points in your EB. and I'm sure that I'd abuse the "free limitation" of taking fixed point of origin for most of my powers for the nice point break. *I haven't read any comics** with Vision in them so I don't know his powers. ** or indeed, any comics in a LONG time, so I'm working off of memory
  24. hey steve, While discussing how multiple layers of Hardened works with my friend I managed to get myself confused. While I think my Interpretation is Correct I would just like some clarification. the issue is when a character has multiple layers of Hardened and is Atacked by multiple levels of AP/Pen in a single Attack the way I interpret this is thus: Hardman has bought 2 layers of hardening for his armor, the rules state that he needs to mark which Advantage his hardened works against when against multiple advantages so he chose one as being Against AP and one against PEN. are all of the following circumstances are correct? 1: he is attacked by Blasterman who used his 2x AP attack, the Hardened blocks both. 2: Blasterman uses a attack that has 2x AP and 2x PEN, the hardned blocs one of each since that is the way he bought it 3: Blasterman uses his attack with AP, PEN, and ID so the armor blocks the AP and PEN. 4: or am I totally wrong and if Blasterman uses a 2x AP attack then the Hardened armor only stops one of the AP advantages since he said the other layer of Hardened works against PEN?
  25. Re: is this legal? thanks for the info guys, I pointed the problem out to the GM and he talked to the player and is reconsiddering the entrie house rule.
