However old he is, or for whatever personal reason if Evans, Marvel pulled off a superhero legacy in a live action film. That is fairly bold, when we have multiple actors continuing the same role, in the same series or different series.

Something DC has tried to do for YEARs, even introducing the legacy hero as a sidekick, then deciding over and over to return to the original. Then reboot, but because "reasons" not only keep the original BUT any and all legacies - the various Robins, Kid Flashes, etc.)

If you enjoy the "magical detection" subgenre and haven't already done so, I'd recommend taking a look at Randall Garrett's Lord Darcy stories, which got a big compilation a while back that's probably in the library system by now.  Stylistically they're a bit Sherlockian, if Holmes was more lot personable and Watson was a magical forensic expert.  Michael Kurland wrote a few sequel novels after Garrett died, which are also worth a look - they're almost flawless pastiches of his style, something you don't see very often.

Or if you want a more "pulp noir" take on the subgenre, there's the lengthy series of Garrett, P.I. (no relation to Garrett) novels by Glen Cook, starting with Sweet Silver Blues way back when.  They're generally much lighter reading than his Dread Empire or Black Company work, but as a fantasy mashup of Nero Wolfe and Sam Spade tropes pretty good.

Count me as another in favor of the Lord Darcy books. And I am a huge fan of noir detective style, so will look into the Garrett stuff, thanks Rich.

  3. and then their exhausted defense fell apart in 2nd half, but honestly, you add even 3 fgs and a td to Jags going into half, so 23-10 and I think a different game in 2nd half. I get trying to catch a team by surprise, but honestly, you look one time for guy in end zone then throw it out the back if not there. you can't throw short at that point

  4. Puttin this here instead of What Have you Watched because deals with Soccer.

We have been watching a series on showtime called The World According to Football with Trevor Noah. Basically does different countries about Soccer and an issue there. Starts with the anonymity and struggle of the women of Brasil. 2nd is on US and why we can't seem to  find players here, was surprising. 3rd was on Premier League of UK and the stress and depression a lot of the players seem to suffer from. Highly recommend.

Dredd: Karl Urban as Judge Dredd. It's a violent movie that is much truer to the source material than the Sylvester Stallone version. It's just a shame that it didn't get a sequel. (4K UHD)

The Dark Knight: Second movie in the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy, and one of the best. (4K UHD)

Escape from New York: Air Force One is hijacked and crashes on the island of Manhattan, which is now a federal prison. Snake Plissken is tasked with finding the President, and returning him and a tape before time runs out. This one's released by Shout! Factory, and includes a very clean transfer of the movie to 4K, as well as an Atmos soundtrack. There's also a Blu-ray of extra features included. (4K UHD)

I've also watched the Dr Who Special 1: The Star Beast, which reunites the David Tennant Doctor with Donna. I liked it, and will be watching Specials 2 and 3 very soon. (Disney+)

Totally agree with all takes, especially the Dredd one.

Didn't realize they were only doing the Doctor Who on Disney +, was just looking last night for them. Dammit. Cant really stream.

  6. And are owned by Fox Sports group, which means, like the Cubs/Braves/Yankees they own the main station their team plays on, so all the tv revenue goes to them. "Payroll high, how about a sweet tv deal worth 3x more then any other team, will that help?"

  7. normally, yes, but the Fox group that owns the Dodgers, much like what is seeming to be like the Mets, don't care about how high payroll is and figure they will make a lot back by marketing Ohtani. Again, not sure he will be the same pitcher again, but we shall see.

  8. at least, and they still haven't really addressed their pitching depth.

As an Angel fan, sad to see him go, but honestly, they could never afford him at that price. And I wonder if any incentives on his pitching built in. As has been noted, 2nd tommy john surgery in same arm.

Why am I still watching MNF tonight?

<sigh>  SO much bad football this year...

And once again a prevent defense prevents their team from winning a game. Whole game they had Fields throwing ball erratically by pressure, so when game on line, stop rushing him.

Honestly the Chargers' record is weird to me.  If I watch a Chargers game there is clearly abundant talent on the field, on both sides of the ball, and it always looks like they're playing well... but it just doesn't show up on the scoreboard.  I don't know what it could be other than maybe playcalling.

Hmm, reminds me of another San Diego team from this year.
