The problem with doing Madam Web movie, unlike with Morbius or any of the others, is that she was always, at best, a support character, not a primary character.
too bad about Morbius, since would have been interesting for them to do some of the Blade/Morbius/Black Cat(?) trio of stories.

your right, wasn't thunderball. Felt like You Only Live Twice, only Submarines instead of Spaceships. not exact, but felt very similar.

Whereas Never Say Never literally was a remake of Thunderball.

AIUI if Sony doesn't use the IP they lose the license.  That's why we get new Spider-Man reboots every ninety days.  Doesn't explain why they don't bother to get a real screenwriter, I assume they figure people will mistake these for MCU movies and the dollars will roll in.

edit: Madame Web cost "only" $80M to make, so it could conceivably make a little money in the long run.

I so hope the same people come back and do more of these. And the fat Dragon was hilarious, far more then I thought would be. "What does a Bard do?", how many times in a game did we ask that.

I've been told Themberchaud the fat dragon is an actual official NPC in the Forgotten Realms setting, and quite popular with fans of D&D.

I don't think Edgin is a bard in the sense of the D&D character class, though. He never casts any spells. He's more of a rogue who sings and plays the lute pretty well. But he swings a lute even better.

The film wouldn't work without a credible primary villain, and I give props to Daisy Head as the Red Wizard Sofina. She was appropriately menacing and especially creepy, and while a few of her interactions with other, more normal characters provoked a laugh, she herself was never other than deadly serious.

I disagree entirely with this. Butcher has been building this for years. And in Battleground we get a culmination of a lot of things that have building for a while.

    Battleground by Jim Butcher
Set over the course mainly of one night, Chicago becomes a battle field as a Titan and her Fomor allies try to take the city apart and anyone who stands in their way. They pick the fight on the Longest Day when Mab's power is at her weakest. And oh boy do we get a fight. There is no easy way out or reasoning this away after all the death and destruction. But it was impressive.
And we get an explanation of stuff that happened in the earlier books as a hidden enemy is finally revealed and thwarted. But there is something to come in the next books. There was stuff I did not expect from Marcone for one and the sad death of another character in a way that I did not expect. And Harry is on the outs with the White Council once more.
You have to have read most of the other books to really appreciate this one and you have to have read Peace Talks.
And now the long wait until the next paid of books comes out.

Perhaps start by NOT making Dr. Doom the villain and use one of the, I don't know, 100s of other villains in their pantheon? Its probably one of the most annoying thing about the last one with Kate and Mara is it would have been a perfect opportunity to use Blastaar as the villain from the Negative Zone, thereby setting a future Annihilus.

Absolutely, positively NOT passing TDs in a season.  Like, not in the same county.  Marino's 2nd year, the one time he made the SB...48 TDs passing.  Tua had 29.

Completion percentage, perhaps.  Tua's was incredibly high, a touch below 70%.

Dak's not even the best example there, I don't think...the poster boy there was Stafford.  5000 yards in a season, probably with 1500+ in the 4th quarter because the Lions were desperate.  But definitely, Dak's well known to have a very poor track record in crunch time...for multiple years now.  That's why, even if the exact computation is wonky, I prefer QBR to the simple rating...because QBR weighs the significance of a play, and its result.  10 yards on 3rd and 9...great.  10 yards on 3rd and 20...not very meaningful.  10 yards on 3rd and 9, 2 minutes left, down 4 points...BIG.  10 yards on 3rd and 20, 2 minutes left, down 17...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

So, sure, you can argue the weighting factors, but they *do* apply to everyone, so it's a fairly good comparative stat...especially with large-scale differences.  Dak's been pretty mediocre most years...albeit NOT this year.  He was tied with Purdy for best QBR this year.  OK, the Giants and Commanders games helped.  (As in 173-37 combined score for those 4 games.)  But...we all know what he did against the Packers.  He Dak'd.  As slik noted, great raw numbers...largely in garbage time, altho ehh, one can argue the Cowboys made em sweat a bit...at 34-16 with time left.  But that didn't last.

And it's to slik's point that Dak had 12 TDs in those 4 games...surprisingly, none in the 40-0 wipeout of the Giants, but 4 in each of the other 3.  So I'll just extend his point to "against soft competition."  The Cowboys scored 35+ 7 times...the 4 noted, the Pats, Rams, and Seahawks.  Well the Rams made the playoffs, tho, right?  By winning 7 of their last 8...after the Cowboy game.  That's another factor...it's been true for a long time that the first few weeks of the season are frequently NOT indicative of the real quality of a team.  That's only grown in the last several years.  Some teams are simply not ready to play at all...Broncos would be the strongest example.

"I'm beginning to see Brooks [Robinson] in my sleep,” [Sparky] Anderson said afterward. “If I dropped a paper plate, he'd pick it up on one hop and throw me out at first.”

Former Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Carl Erskine once described his strategy of pitching to Musial: "I've had pretty good success with Stan by throwing him my best pitch and backing up third."

Apparently the way to pitch to Hank Aaron was to make sure no one else was on base.

One of the Washington Nationals TV guys once said that the way to pitch to Giancarlo (then Mike) Stanton of the Florida Marlins at Nats Park is to just go ahead and turn around & throw the ball over the right field wall.

Having your father busted for *felony* DWI...3rd offense.  That makes it a 3rd degree felony in Texas.  10 years max, altho I rather suspect that will be deferred.  Gotta figure Patrick will pay for serious alcoholism treatments, and whatever else is necessary.

Only semi-related, but let me tell you about a race I ran in high school track.  True story.

I was running the mile relay, in the second position for our team, because I really wasn't all that good.  For those not familiar with the mile relay, the starting runners run once around the track each holding a baton.  When they get all the way around, they pass their batons to the next runners on their teams, who then run around the track to pass the batons to the third runners, who run around the track to pass the batons to the last runners, who make the final lap around the track.

So after the first set of runners start out, I take my position and wait for my teammate to come back around and pass me our baton.  As they're coming up, I can see that our team's runner is just barely ahead of the other team's runner.  So as soon as I grab the baton, I take off at my fastest.  And I can hear the "crunch, crunch, crunch" of footsteps right behind me.  So I push harder, but dang it, I can hear he's still right there, on my tail.  I keep pushing myself faster than I'd ever run before, with that "crunch, crunch, crunch" of footsteps right behind me all the way.  I get back around, pass my baton to the next runner on our team, and stumble off the track, too wiped out to even watch the rest of the race.

Our coach comes up to me, puts his arm around my shoulders, and says, "That was incredible!  That's the fastest I've ever seen you run!"  He chuckles.  "Too bad you didn't need to run that hard."

Apparently, when the other team went to pass the baton, they dropped it.  By the time their runner picked it up and started running, he was waaaay behind me.

I was hearing my own footsteps and was trying to outrun... myself.
