  1. Re: Thank you Well Tenzil Kim, I think it's wonderful all the same that you like the forums here...people are always welcome from all systems...not just the HERO System. Many of us do have a tendency to get a little "fanatical", especially when it comes to the "loyalty to the game system"; but all in all, everyone here has a good health respect for people's opinions...whether right, wrong or indifferent. So, my question to you is more from a "curiousity factor"... What was it that originally did lead you to the HERO Games forums in the first place?
  2. OK gang... I thought that this was so silly, I just had to share this with everyone. Rules For Picking A Superhero Name: Don't call yourself by your real name: e.g., The Incredible Jenny Pinchuck, The Amazing Stevie Foster. Don't call yourself by someone else's real name: e.g., Super Teddy Kennedy, Captain Dean Martin. Choose a name that suggests power, heroism and prowess: e.g., Captain Power, Thunderman, Mr. Invincible, Justiceman. Don't be too modest: e.g., Mr. Pretty Good, Captain So-so, Fairly Incredibleman, Captian Invincible on a good day. But don't labor the point: e.g., Mr. So-Powerful-Don't-Even-Think-About-It-Buddy. Don't choose a name detrimental to your crime fighting image: e.g., Captain Spongecake, Mr. Silly, Yellow Streak, Purple Slippers, Captain Sweetiepie. Don't choose the name of an existing Superhero unless you have lots of money and enjoy fighting litigation instead of supervillains. It's no use calling yourself Captain Invincible if your only power is control over Hostess Twinkies and you suffer from a congenial hole-in-the-heart condition. It's just asking for trouble. Don't call yourself the Invisible Boy if you're not. Don't call yourself the Invisible Boy if you're a girl. Don't give away important information in your name, e.g. The Glass Jaw, Captain Vulnerable To Strontium 90. Don't call yourself The Green Avenger if you wear an orange costume. You'll confuse people.
  3. Re: Star Wars - Balancing Jedi with everyone else and heroic vs. superheroic I like a lot of the things that you are all discussing here. It's not a bad idea to place the characters at the "superheroic" category, but that also does not mean that you have to start them out at 350 points (200pts + 150 Pts in Disadvantages), and still have the game be considered "superheroic"...now does it? If you are intent on the 350 point total, you can still do a few things to "balance the tables", as it is... Utilize the Character Ability Guidelines Table (in Fifth Edition, Revised - Page 28)...and enforce Low-Powered Classification (or at the very most Standard Classification). Utilize the Optional Character Design Guidelines (in Fifth Edition, Revised - Page 29), and "structure the characters" based on their character type (i.e. Jedi Characters are Power-Oriented, Smuggler/Rogue Characters are Skill-Oriented, etc. No Character Type should be Characteristic-Oriented). Enforce Normal Human Maximas for Characteristics (There's nothing worse than a 50 STR, 26 DEX and 25 CON Bounty Hunter). I am beginning work myself on a STAR WARS Campaign, converting over the key points for STAR WARS d20 to the HERO SYSTEM. I've come to many of the same conclusions that many of you have... For STAR WARS...Superheroic is definitely the way to go. It gives you the most flexibility, and keeps true to the genre. The major stumbling block though is Equipment. In a Superheroic Campaign...players pay points for everything. The solution...All characters are required to have a Variable Power Pool, defined as a "Gadget Pool". This allows the players freedom to change their equipment, but only in a certain location. Create standardized equipment (i.e. Blasters, Jet-packs, Lightsabers, etc.), have the players define what is in their "stash" (as per your VPP/Gadget Pool guidelines, based on character type), and if they want to add new equipment to the "stash", role play it out (make them go shopping, to the Jedi Temple, etc.). Well, there's my "two cents". The Force Will Be With You...Always!!!

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Since "The Catsuit Thread" is gone, I have paid Jett T.: ThreadAssassin REP to have this thread destroyed, since this thread has fulfilled it's original conception...beating out "The Catsuit Thread" as the longest thread ever. Wait a minute... I'm contributing to the thread by posting to it... AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!

  7. Re: Complicate the Person Above Bazza once dated Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie, Courtney Love and Gwen Stefani all at the same time...but it just didn't work out. Too many complications...and to many commitments.
  8. Re: But I want to play Champions I was a GM for over 18 years before I actually got to play regularly. An occasional one game here and there...but nothing that really lasted. That was the major reason I got out of the hobby for a while. A lot of unwanted angst and frustration on my part. I have had enough time away, that I wouldn't mind trying again.
  9. Re: Clown, Inc. I know how rough it can be...heck, I am working, and I can't even scrape together money to buy anything except the basic needed items and amennities. Good call...I totally forgot about that book.

  12. Re: Complicate the Person Above AngryBug shows great restraint with his anger...which has now become a base indifferance. Just yesterday, he shot four people...and didn't bat an eye.
  13. Re: Champions Jargon TRID - Any "non-descript" NPC (and TRID spelt backwards is...DIRT!!!) Used to describe any character in a movie that would have such end credits as "Third Man From Left", or "Woman in Blue".
  14. Re: "Teen Champion" to Regular Personally, I would allow the "Power Frameworks", but put Point/Ceiling Caps on them. (i.e. no more than X Active Points in a Multipower or Elemental Control, or even perhaps...no more than 4-6 Powers in a Power Framework.) This keeps the feel of the "new powers", but will not involve the characters going through a total rewrite at 350 pts...and possible upsetting the balance (and continuity) of your Teen-Adult Champions Campaign. The major problem with doing entire "character rewrites", is that the initial character feel disappears, and sometimes (although mostly) it upsets the character's focus and playability. Most Champions Campaigns that I have run over the past 20+ years, the player quickly loses interest in playing the character that they just rewrote (about 3-6 months)...mostly due to the fact that the rewritten character does not have the same feel as the original. All of the work that the player(s) did on the rewritten versions is "wasted time"...and things have a tendency to spiral downward for the players after that.
  15. Re: Sci-Fi Game or Porno Flick? What about... DISCO HERO!!!
  16. Re: I've got 5ER! Welcome to the wonderful world of 5ER...make your self at home. As a long time Champions player and GM, I left the world of HERO for quite a few years after 4th Ed. It's almost like I never left. The game system has pretty much had the final "kinks" worked out of it, and it's a streamlined piece of work. I haven't really noticed all that many changes. A few things about skill levels, "naked" disadvantages, and other sorted mechanics. Take the time to really pour over the immense tome. It's well worth it.
  17. Re: Every Good Golden Age Supers Campaign Needs: What a Golden Age campaign needs... At least one hero and villian with an "Arthurian" theme. A hero with powers based on FIRE. A "super soldier" (either hero or villian). Well defined good and evil. Black and white morals.
  18. Re: need another name Here's some names to try on for size... Titania Paradox Sentry
  19. Re: Every good four color supers games needs: Stan Lee or Jack Kirby at the helm!!!
  20. Re: Teen Champions Reviewed Via Podcast Thanks for the quick response Steve... I think I'll REP the big guy (FYI...That's you Steve!!!) for his quick response (besides I need to spread around some REP so I can give some to Enforcer again).
  21. Re: Teen Champions Reviewed Via Podcast Can someone explain to me what a "podcast" really is? Is it basically just a downloadable file you play on your MP3 player?

  24. Re: Is Iron Man a power gamer type character? The main thing about Marvel Comics in the early days, many of the characters that Stan Lee created were "tragic heroes". They rose above their adversity to to take on the mantle and become heroes. Here are some examples... Spiderman, The Fantastic Four, The Hulk, Daredevil, Doctor Strange...and Iron Man. Most of the signatures that separated Marvel from DC (and other comic companies as well) was the fact that these characters had real life "angst", and they used their abilities to rise above it all, to motivate them to help others...and become true heroes. Thank You Stan "The Man" Lee...you've brought us some of the most beloved characters in comic history, and helped show the "real life" problems of the fictional hero. POW Entertainment is Stan Lee's latest business venture...check it out here...http://www.powentertainment.com/.
  25. Re: Who knows physics? re·frac·tion (r-frkshn) n. The turning or bending of any wave, such as a light or sound wave, when it passes from one medium into another of different optical density. Astronomy. The apparent change in position of celestial objects caused by the bending of light rays entering Earth's atmosphere. Medicine.
