In Dark Champions 5e, there's an intro by Steve Long that explains as a Builder-type of player, he was dissatisfied with the "four-colour "fight them lock them up, they escape, we fight them again" cycle. He created the Harbinger to have a positive effect on the game world (and drive GMs crazy) and then wrote the original Dark Champions as a source book for "dark heroes" like the Harbinger, feeling they had got short shrift in the main Champions book. Well, Steve, I'll see your Harbinger and raise you the Shadow, even without the powers of hypnotism that the radio shows gave him.

Because Jesse Ventura wielding a minigun from the hip *will* be a reality, dammit!

I that's the Achilles I'm thinking of, from Global Guardians. he's a genetically engineered super-soldier, in rebellion against his gene-father, the campaign's apex supervillain, Lord Doom. I miss the Global Guardians site.

This is hilarious, especially Grognak's answers. Also, I notice his Hellsteed-descended warhorse is called Binky.

Another great setting is Charles R Saunders' "Imaro" books. If Hyboria is "Europe", then Nyumbani (Swahili for "home") is "Africa" and, frankly, a damn better rendition than Howard's "Black Kingdoms", given that Saunders actually researched the history and mythology far more thoroughly than Howard did, even actually traveling to Africa to broaden his learning. Imaro (Swahili for "Strength". and there are many such bilingual Easter eggs in the books) was created as a reaction to to racially dubious depictions of black people in Burroughs, Lovecraft and Howard by a man who confesses he is a huge fan of the latter two. Get your hands on the books if you can, they're fun reads.
