I have taken such groups and said that they are attempting to purify humanity. I asked this because recently I got thinking about the different types of games people play - western, post apocalyptic, fantasy, super, scifi, different punk's, etc. However, there seems to be a large void that concerns the apocalyptic era. As with any period of transition, there are many stories that can be told about it. Not just as remberance of times past, but when it is actually occurring. So I asked questions to make a good campaign during such a time.

Society is operating normally. Then something (you define) happens and things start to come apart. This will be the period of transition that is normally jumped over in those post apocalyptic stories. Many people will be killed by this transition (along with other animals and plants), but many will survive. Society itself will be transformed in MANY fundamental aspects as transportation, commerce, communication, government, medical, etc all break down. Exactly what causes this apocalypse? What percentage of the population survive? How can they make a living in this new society? What is the new society like? How long will it take for things to get resettled into what is seen in those other stories? Other comments welcome and appreciated.

The way I would handle this would be to think of what people use the mirrors for. Most often it will be to control light. It doesn't matter the size of the mirror, only the location, angle, and reflectivity that it possesses. As a result, tiny hand held mirrors can get as powerful as giant industrial units, and more useful. Making common items like holograms, laser, flash, and much more are all possible.

When I first started playing RPGs, I attempted ADND (found that was not for me and was nearly turned off), then went FASERIP (was hooked), but had problems with not being able to make the character the way I desire, especially when it came to problems. FASERIP assumed that everyone would be some perfect hero. When I discovered Champions with its built in system of making imperfect characters, I figured that was even better (though nothing is perfect). Now it seems as though everyone is trying to emulate this method of making imperfect characters, regardless if it's an add on or worked in at the outset.

I believe that these games (like everything else) evolves over time. Supes didn't start with his troubles with those rocks, and disadvantages would have appeared in games regardless if Supes developed his problems or not. What form todays games would be like is anyone's guess, but those problems would be in there.
