IndianaJoe3 got a reaction from Vanguard in how much body does a planet have?
OK, I want to get this out there so I can stop thinking about it before bed.

One cubic meter of stone has 19 BODY. Assume that doubling the volume adds 5 BODY. Earth has a volume of ~10^21 cubic meters. That is about 70 doublings, which gives us 369 BODY for Earth.

Figuring out how much Damage Negation Earth has is left as an exercise for the reader.

The ranges are deliberately vague. Feel free to explain your choice in the comments.

I'm going with modern because it allows the world to feel familiar, without requiring explanation of why all these super-gadgets and strange powers haven't greatly affected history.

I tend to go with Modern but it is also the case of how. Spontaneous mutations ? Yes. The Gestalt waves as it is stated in the Gestalt book. Then there is the good old alien intervention/manipulation and Weird Science.

"Complex Gestures" are in Fantasy Hero pg 285. It's a skill roll penalty, or forces a DEX roll if the spell does not require a skill roll.

Add my name to the list of people who think this would be unnecessary. I see AoE and UBO as fundamentally different, even if (in some scenarios) the effect is similar. With AoE, the original user is the only one with the power, even though it affects an area. With UBO, the recipients actually possess the power. This distinction is most clear with Attack powers.

As others have said, it will depend on how you want your magic system to work. Concentration, Gestures, and Incantations all have rules for interrupting Powers with those Limitations. You could use Limited Power: Interruptible (-0) to give the same effect without any of the other drawbacks.

Barring any of those (or similar) Limitations, the only way to interrupt a spell is for the interrupter to have an appropriate Dispel, with a held action.

It's important to remember that Hero is a toolkit system. The game mechanics for Pulsar's power blasts and Talisman's Hellfire are the same (Blast, 12d6). You can't interrupt Talisman just because, "It's magic."

I disagree. Many of the standard maneuvers are fairly straightforward, both in concept and mechanic (Block, Dodge, Grab, Throw, etc). I expect players will ask how to do them at some point in the demonstration, even if you don't mention them.

I really hate the way you throw downvotes around...  😞  It makes me want to retaliate and that does not lead to a discursive evironment.

Anyway - just because the OP might assume a player holds an action and uses the gestures and incantations as a trigger does not mean it would work in any given game.  If he does so he would be unable to interrupt my wizard in his spellcasting.  If that is what he spent his points on, and our GM allowed that too, he might have questions for that GM.

D&D is designed such that spells are interruptable, it is the base condition in that game.  HERO is not designed such that spells are interruptable, it is not the base condition.  HERO might allow for that to be the base condition in a game but noone should build their character without checking with the GM how the magic system works and whether any assumptions made are correct.

I've thought about this, only my thought experiment had the President transferring some blue states to a less benevolent country (Russia, China, etc). I realized that this would have to happen by treaty, which would require approval of 2/3 of the Senate. I stopped worrying about it after that.

Why are most of you listing special effects rather than mechanics?  This is Hero - the fact that you are playing Stairway to Heaven with a full band rather than Chopsticks on a cheap keyboard is just special effects.  What does it do in gameplay?

Thanks to IndianaJoe3 for providing the mechanics.

There were plenty of opportunities to take the statues down, and move them somewhere suitable (wherever that was).

I also find your comparison to book-burning to be rather disingenuous. These statues weren't meant to record events. They were to remind a subjugated people who was really in charge. They deserve to be destroyed.
