  1. Re: I had a descussion with Steve about buying some Hero's books... *sigh* OK I do apologize about my joke, I really did not think it was in bad taste, especially due to the context it was used in. Also as I said before Mr. Long spoke to me via pm's and a part of my joke was a bit of an inside joke because we spoke about vigilantism and violance to a certain degree. If I offended anyone, I;m sorry, I really don't think it was in that bad of taste. As for the offer of the book, please do not send me any books or money to get any. I will not give you my address or name. I was not trying to beg, or ask for handouts of any kind. I was merely stating my suprise at the price of the books and mentioning my situation. I thank you for the kindness and I apologise for any trouble I caused, I will not be posting again.
  2. Re: I had a descussion with Steve about buying some Hero's books... I no longer have any printed materials, I said I USE to have all the 4E books.(lost in a fire) I thought about getting sidekick but here is where the hard choice is: Its like buying one roll of toilet paper when you know your going to eventually buy a 24 pack. If I purchase the sidekick (not in PDF form, I go to the hospital a lot) thats 15 dollars I could have put towards the Core book. 15 dollars on a redundant book that I won't use if I have the core book. Its all well and good to say 'get this now, then get the bigger one later', but in my situation you have to think in the longterm, that 15 dollars could be spent on food, or a movie, or a taxi cab ride, or even another book I want. It comes down to economics of scale. Do I buy the small pack at the grocery store, or do I go to "Super Size Wholesaler' and get the large jumbo size that I will get use out of for a very long time... which will be the more economic in the long run? I would say the Core Rulebook.(since 6E is a year away, and I think I can come up with the scratch by then to get a copy ), would be the better all around purchase and more useful in the long run... Ok now I'm depressed about having to think about my budget LOL, I'll be back a bit later!
  3. Re: Why are so many people upset that Cryptic is only using the Champions IP? I concur, but I think this engine is completely new and nothing like the champions engine.
  4. Re: I had a descussion with Steve about buying some Hero's books... Thanks for all the responses... Part of the problem is just culture shock, like a lot of people on the Champions boards I use to play the game a long time ago, and 20 dollars was a big deal back then too... First off I thought Hero Games had been closed for years since I had not heard anything about it and secondly I expected the editions to be pretty similar (boy was i ever wrong). I think that I realized the price was going to go up, but I was thinking $35 dollars for the Rules book tops, so when I saw $50 dollars plus shipping and handling... my thought process was...: But to be fair there was a lot more cursing involved and some thoughts of going to a con having him sign a copy for purchase and then beating him to death with it.... After reading this thread I no longer feel he should be beaten to death, just until he goes into a coma. And if he does not think he should be beaten period, he can always PM me and get my address so that he can send me a free signed copy of the Core Rule set... I'm just sayin'... Thanks for the responses and baring the Impossibility that Steve will send me the core ruleset to get my addiction started again (Please?), I will purchase the core book next month and then try to buy a supplement or bundle ever other month.. I'll be eating a lot of canned food and my hamster will die of starvation.. but a geeks gotta do what a geeks gotta do...
  5. Re: Massively Article On Champions Online Thanks for the link Steve, and lets not go into the WoW rant shall we? Although are you going to any cons in the DC area? I would love to hear your rant! And force you to give me a signed copy of the Hero Core Rules...
  6. Re: Why are so many people upset that Cryptic is only using the Champions IP? Thank you to those who have posted on this thread so far. I am a little surprised that only 5 people responded so far, and none of them think having Heroes rule set as a base for the MMO is a good idea. I probably should not be surprised at this, but as vocal as the proponents of the Heroes Rule set are on the other forum, I just assumed they would want a chance to explain why they are so against it in a logical manner. Come to think of it... I think thats exactly what they don't want. If these people posted on this forum, they would probably be flayed alive for not appreciating what a great opportunity this is for the game they love. Over there they look like proponents of the game they love, over hear they would might sound seriously deranged... But thats just my warped opinion. I would really like to hear from some of the proponents of having Heroes Rule Set as the basis of the MMO. I know your out here, heck I can put at least 1 full page of links to threads about how the game is going to be bad if it does not use Heroes Rules in some form. I would really like to hear your opinions.
  7. On th Champions forums there are many threads with people determined to get the Heroes Games Rule Set used in the creation of the game? Why are people so desperate to happen? Games Workshop has licensed its products out for decades now to things unrelated to table top gaming, and they have only managed to increase their brand awareness and their sales of table top games. So why are people losing it on the other forums about not having Hero Rules? one person even described it this way: But no matter what Steve Long or Jack Emmert says, the vocal threats and the calls of doom if the system is not used continue unabated. An example of such: How much of the Hero System is used in CO? What would you like to see used in CO? I just don't see why its such a big deal. Other Game Systems have done it as well, but why the vehement stance for this franchise when the MMO will only bring attention to the system and increase interest in the websites and probably the sales numbers?
  8. Re: Hey Gang! Nice to see you hear Jack... now stop following me!
  9. Re: I had a descussion with Steve about buying some Hero's books... I guess you guys are right... But man i really was not expecting the core book to cost that much,,, i felt like I got punched....
  10. Re: ChampionsOnline.org Nice I will check it out ma'am, hope it does well!
  11. Re: Who's Who on the Champions Online forums? Why thank you *bow*
  12. Let me preface this to say that I have not played or purchased a Hero's game since the early mid 1990s. As a matter of fact I thought they had gone out of business. So... I asked Steve some questions via PM on the Champions Online forums. Due to this conversation I decided to purchase the Champions Genre books when they have the new reprints up... Steve also advised me that I should probably get the HERO's Rulebook since the Heroes rules are no longer a part of the Champions book, like they were in the 90s. So a few minutes ago I go to the Online store to price both items so I can purchase them next month when I have the money and the Champions book is reprinted..... AND THE PRICE WAS $50 DOLLARS FOR THE HERO SYSTEM RULES? What alternate universe have I jumping into? What the heck happaned? The Rules use to be 20 dollars or included with a genre book like Champions.... I know time has passed and inflation and such... but great good googly moogly... thats kind of insane... Pluse you need to purchase a genre book ( I know its not necessary but come on, thats like buying a metric ton of paint and not having anything to paint) And the Champions book alone is $30 (which is a great price and i think it was cheaper than the old 4th edition, I'm not sure) Come on guys.. is it just me? Am I insane and this is reasonable for just the rulestet? It would be different it it was like D&D and broken up into 3 specific books which you purchase depending on your needs... But good gravy what happened to the rules themselves being 20 dollars and the genre books being being 30 dollars or over? And another question: Should I just wait till next year and buy the 6th edition of the rules? I only recieve 750 a month on disabilty, and the Rulesbook alone would eat up a lot if not all of my 'entertainment' budget for the next couple of months.
  13. Re: Foxbat? Why am I not surprised... He is one odd iconic villain... Half the time he wants to become your sidekick or you to become his sidekick. (sorry about the colors in my post, tyring to see what works best on this background)
  14. Re: Who's Who on the Champions Online forums? He can't, you cant use spaces on those forums, just underscore or dashes, and we like HeroicSteve! On those forums I am Avatar_of_Champions... and since I could not get Avatar of Heroes to work here I went with Heroic Avatar.. which sounds pretty good to me... I never said I was creative!
  15. Re: A lot of new traffic from the Champions MMO website? Drat I am being followed... and it was all Steve's fault that we are here... he had to go and say come to these forums to find out about the Hero System and Champions... Be careful what you wish for.... And Steve I have a question: Have sales of Champions and Heroes material gone up since the announcement?
