  1. Thanks all. Great ideas. I can't wait to take a look at your suggestions.
  2. Hi everyone. I'm thinking of starting an episodic Fantasy Hero game where the players are part of an elite force for the government doing a variety of things such as courier, scouting, leading battles, special ops missions. What countries in the Turakian setting would you suggest this to be based in? Thanks.
  3. Re: Arabian Knights I was going to suggest the Sha'ir's Handbook as well. I am a huge fan of Al-Qadim. I have all the TSR products and have often thought about converting it into HERO mechanics. The Clockwork Mage and Ghul Lord are two of my favorites.
  4. Re: Has anyone here ported a Spycraft organization to HERO? I'm working on a variation of the Archer Foundation for my Champions game. It won't be a direct port but I am pulling lots of points from it to my organization.
  5. Re: Wand of wonder like power Thanks everyone. I went with a VPP for the whole bow. I'm still working on the Random Arrow slot but overall it is a much easier way to go.
  6. Hello all. I could use some help. One of my players has a character that is what I am calling a bow mage. She can transform her arrows into spell like effects to fire against her foes or for her allies. In our discussion today he stated he would like an arrow that has a completely random effect like the Wand of Wonder from D&D. The other powers are built into a 60 point MP. Any ideas on how to build this? I have some but I thought I would come to the experts first. Thanks
  7. Re: Storn Idea to full picture Year 7 How about one of my NPC heroes. Chrysalis (Kai Saunders) Powers: The ability to create objects made of a pale blue crystal like substance. Most often she creates a set of armor and sword as she is a accomplished swordswoman. She has also been known to create darts that have a variety of effects and crystal 'tentacles' to hold foes in place. From her father she inherited some regeneration abilities. Background: She is the daughter of one of my former PCs and "Icicle" from rule book. Kai is actually from the future as well. Her age is about 30 where her father is only about 40. Doc, her father, is Maori. Appearance: Kai is a fit woman who the look of a martial artist. Her hair is shoulder length with a slight wave to it. The normal color is a very light blue but she often dies it brown to be less noticeable. Her eyes are a brilliant blue color. The crystal armor has an eastern flair to it, but does not conform to any one style. She can change its appearance as she likes. Her sword is usually in the style of a katana. She as a Maori tattoo that flows up her arms and around her collar bones to her neck. It is not one solid piece covering her whole arms, bur rather a path or a vine. With long sleeve shirts and a regular collar it cannot be seen. In a blouse that has a somewhat lower neckline the top of the tattoo would be visible. It comes to right where a t-shirt color would be.
  8. Re: What happened to San Angelo? I have the original San Angelo book (signed by Patrick Sweeney), Denziens of San Angelo and Enemies of San Angelo in book form, Dragon's Gate in PDF. And then the three PDFs that were posted in the thread. If I am missing any please let me know! And thank you for clarifying what can be posted here. As I start to develop villains and teams I will start posting them here. My biggest chore right now is figuring out what I will keep with minimal changes from the books and what will be updated since 12 years have gone by.
  9. Re: What happened to San Angelo? Thank you QM. That is what I thought but I wanted to check. I am having so much fun getting to run my San Angelo Campaign that I just dream about more source books for this wonderful city. I guess I will have to create them myself for my campaign. What would be the policy of sharing such things here? I mean if I create a number of mystic teams based in San Angelo would I be able to share them here for others to use? Thank you again for your answers and the PDFs. I am going to have a long weekend reading them and plotting my campaign.
  10. Re: What happened to San Angelo? Does anyone know if there has ever been any thought of updating San Angelo to 5/6th edition and the timeline? Reading my original books and the PDFs here makes me really want more for the city. I am doing some updating/changing for my upcoming campaign. In the front of the Arroyo Verde book it mentions Mystics of San Angelo.
  11. Re: What happened to San Angelo? Hi everyone. Just wanted to say I've loved San Angelo since it first came out. I am starting a new Champions game that will be set in San Angelo. Having fun rereading all the books and deciding what will be the main villains and storylines.
  12. Re: Hell's Dawn I have put some thought into the other cities around the world and their status, but not lots yet. London is human controlled. Paris is demon controlled. Berlin is still under siege. Madrid is also under siege. Moscow human controlled. St. Petersburg under siege. Tokyo is human controlled with only a few pockets of demon resistance remaining. Beyond that not much done.
  13. Re: Hell's Dawn Since this 'genre' is semi horror I would like some input from the boards. I want to really emphasize at times how weird some of the demons & their controlled cities are. To me this means a hesitation or pause, at times, as the characters take in the otherworldliness of what they are facing. At other times I hope to have it disgust the characters. This isn't horror in the sense of being scary or tense, but rather horror as a twisted/bizarre reflection of something that does not quite fit into this reality. Something along the lines of a Cthulu sanity roll, but not quite. Any ideas on how I could handle this? Thanks
  14. Re: Hell's Dawn Most network TV and radio is gone since New York and LA are under Demon control. Some network stuff does come out of Atlanta. Both TV and radio are now broadcast at the local level with some reports being nationwide news. There is one radio 'network', DFW, that broadcasts on a satellite station that often seem to have news of the resistance and battles between human and demon forces. They also have updates on the battles that are being waged around the world. The seat of US government has moved to the Twin Cities. The President was killed in the initial assault on DC. The new President has declared a state of Emergency and nationalized much of the nation's resources to help combat the demons. While food in the rurals areas is pretty plentiful it can be scarce sometimes in the larger cities due to gas rationing, black markets and demon attacks on convoys. St. Louis has become known as the Burning City. While the initial rifts were large in each city most have been shut down to smaller, more stable gates between the realms. Except for St. Louis. The Arch has become a permanent gate from their world into this one. The legs of the arch and the area between them are constantly filled with brilliant red and black flames that seem to give off no heat. But if they are touched by anyone but a demon the person is instantly turned into a cinders. The light from the Arch fills most of St. Louis city itself with constantly flickering shadows and light, thus giving the appearance that the city is burning.
  15. Re: Hell's Dawn Hell's Dawn update: I haven't had as much time as I would have liked over the last 2 weeks to work on Hell's Dawn, but I have gotten some things done. Demon controlled cities (where there is little to no direct combat between demon troops and human troops, resistance/underground fighting may still be occuring): New York Washington DC LA Las Vega Seattle/Vancouver Miami St. Louis Detroit/Windsor Demons/Humans still actively vying for control: Chicago Milwaukee Dallas/Fort Worth Denver Boston Phoenix Indianapolis Human controlled (where either the demons did not attack or were defeated) Minneapolis/St. Paul Atlanta Salt Lake City Santa Fe San Francisco This is by no means an exhaustive list, just what I have decided on.
  16. Re: Hell's Dawn Thanks Jtelson. Sorry took me so long to respond. I missed that you had replied. I will definetly take a deeper look at that site and probably use some things from it.
  17. Re: Storn Art from idea to Full Picture Year 5 Chrysalis-a woman that can grow/create items made of a blue crystal. She can instantly form blue armor around her self and usually creates a clear blue sword. Also known to throw sharp crystals. Of course crystal bonds and force walls are also a staple of her arsenal.
  18. I had been running a Mage game for my group but have recently convinced them to start a whole new campaign using HERO rules. The campaign is loosely based on the Hellgate:London game. (and i mean loosely as I haven't played it, just read the wikipedia entry). Demons attacked various cities around the world at the same time. Some are completely under demon control now, others are still fighting, while others have kicked the demons out. Working on building what has happened to the USA during this time. Where the seat of government has moved to, what supplies are in short demand and such. This is a dark superhero game (I would say dark Champions but that isn't quite right). Magic, super high tech, superpowers, all started to appear after the invasion. There was no such things before. Using 350 points to start with and putting some limits on rPD but not much else. Lots of HKA and RKA since they are fighting demons (mostly) and this is in no way a 4-color game. Lots of gray, and lots of damage dealing. So far have 1 character almost done, and the one other player who knows the system almost has his done. Will get the ideas from the other two players and hopefully get their characters into HD sometime soon. I am really really excited about running a HERO game again. I didn't realize how much I missed it. It is good to be hom.
  19. Re: HEROs of Heaven I think Nobilis looks to be one of the most interesting and thought provoking books in the gaming world. The book itself is beautiful and the concept behind the setting interesting. That would probably be the one game that I would want to play as is and not convert it to Hero. Otherwise I would go In Nomine. A player in my old Champs game ran a fallen angel (there being a difference between fallen and cast out) and I used some of the concepts for In Nomine for him. The songs and the tethers to be specific. I will have to see if I have any of the write ups any more. If so I will let you know.
  20. Re: Weapon Creation Wow! Great suggestions all! Thanks for the different ways to build this! Now I just have to run them by the GM.
  21. I thought I would go to the experts on this one. I need to make a garrote for a character. I can think of a couple of ways to make it. And someone else suggested another way. How would you make a regular wire garrote in HERO terms? Thanks.
  22. Re: Campaign Paradigms It is really good. It is helping me get some thoughts clear on my new FH game. I can use that to figure out which options I will be using. My starting points totals are a little higher than what you suggest, but the varying options of superheroic and heroic side by side will make it much easier. Once again KS your site rocks and has helped another GM in distress. Thanks for sharing. RP
  23. Re: Lack of Fully Developed Worlds I couldn't agree more. It is a family and there is always disagreements in families. And it is working through those issues that helps families grow closer and stronger. Don't get me wrong. I wish Hero had a larger following also. I know what you mean about not finding people to game with. And part of that may be the "setting" issue. WOD was mentioned as a setting. And while I do see it as a setting I see it more comparable to Hero the D&D. I have run numerous Mage games and never used their characters or plot lines. I made my own. And I love published worlds. I think one of the biggest tragedies in gaming was the loss of Al-Qadim. I feel that is the best D&D world ever created. There is a path where we can find the balance of published game world & support with the home grown world that many of us love to create. I have no doubt that we will find that balance as we continue to discuss, create, cognate and most of all have fun with our gaming.
  24. Re: Lack of Fully Developed Worlds Agreed. I just got my game group to switch from 3.5 Forgotten Realms to Fantay Hero my own world for this reason. I had too many ideas that didn't work in D&D but I can create them in Fantasy Hero. As someone said before in this thread Hero is toolset that we can use. I love all the setting books, genre books and ultimate books. Not because I will use them for their own sake but because they are jumping off points for my own ideas. I have books shelves of gaming books (to my wife's chargrin) of systems that I will never play. But I use them all the time for new ideas. Maybe DOJ has tried to do a little too much with all the genre books, but it is their company and their system. Will they support them all for all time. No. Do they need to. No. But that is okay because they have given us the tools to support them ourselves. And that is what I love about Hero. If another book was never published by DOJ (may all the gods of all the dimensions prevent this) Hero would not go away. The fan base is too loyal and to creative to let it fade away. Look at the years before DOJ rescued it. While there may not have been any books coming out I still ran Champions. And the support on the web continued. As the great Nightwing once said, "The JLA is a team. The Titans are a family." Hero is more than a product that DOJ puts out. This is the only game system that I know of that has this much support, dedication, and loyalty. Sure you can find a million websites for *** stuff. But where can you talk the line editor of the whole company every Thursday night? Where can you email the software designer with a question and usualy have an answer within, not days, or even hours, but usually minutes. Hero is a family. Pure and simple. And families have issues, but overall I would rather use a system that lets me do what I want, when I want, and how I want.
  25. Re: Blast, Burn, Heal Very cool. Points for using the term Outrider. There is just something about that word that makes me want to game. The site you linked to is cool too. A very neat concept. I just started a FH game and these may have to come into play at some point. Thanks for sharing.
