  1. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game But only if your characters are below a certain level, IIRC. I had a bunch of <10 level toons that got the "this name may have been taken" message, but all my top-level toons were nice and safe. I even got a bunch of veteran badges and bennies when I logged back in!
  2. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game I'd take you up on that, assuming I have any relevant enough characters on Guardian (I tend to stick to Protector for most of my important heroes), but I'm a faihful church attendee and actually have an afternoon activity this Sunday, so I wouldn't be around to receive your largesse. If it helps, I let my account go inactive instead of closing it three years ago, and didn't delete my chars. I've jumped back in last month to find my faves still there and I'm having fun getting back in the groove. You might not want to burn the bridge behind you, so to speak, just in case you get the urge to come back. In any case, good luck to you, sir. Hope you had fun while it lasted.
  3. Re: STUN multipliers in 6e Don't you understand, Mojo? It's the moderators' job to make sure any discussions on these boards deal with topics they themselves are interested in. Otherwise, what fun is there in being a mod?
  4. Re: 'Hero System' online I can hardly bear it...
  5. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... I agree. It's much harder to sneak up on a goat. What?
  6. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Ah. Valyous Kzenos. In the first adventure, bystanders listening to the teens call out to each other got his name wrong, which resulted in him getting the hero name Valor. His background was actually a fun one to come up with. I made this crazy mashup of Rom Spaceknight, The Powers of Matthew Star, and even some Star Wars. What can I say? It was a late night.
  7. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Heh. The way the scenario actually went down is that, during a later adventure involving time travel, Orion woke up back in WWII and found out a relative was secretly helping out the Nazis as a way to soften up Earth for invasion. He (Susano) had no idea the GM was going to spring this on him. The rest of us were brought in to the trick and given temporary characters of the era to play out for the run. The best part was Susano's face on the big reveal when Orion discovered the supervillain they were getting ready to fight was none other than his uncle!
  8. Re: Ultimate Pulp Era Gear Archive Got 'im for you. Ah, yes. Colin Chapman's stuff. The man's a frickin' encyclopedia at times. My bad for not thinking to spread the love over to these here parts. Definitely rep-worthy to have it come to light. Thanks, tkdguy!
  9. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game I'm a permanent MMO newbie. I generally avoid them simply because a lot of the elements present in MMOs mentioned (e.g., PvP, lewt, FoTM, farming) are things that I have absolutely no interest in. When I first heard about CoH, I was skeptical simply because I could not see the expected MMO tropes to work with the superhero genre. A friend who was playing CoH introduced me to the game and showed me how Cryptic and NCSoft had managed to create a MMO that, well, didn't behave like a MMO. When some of those elements began to creep into the game (like PvP), obviously due to pressure from the MMO-heavy crowd, my interest waned. After a while, I just stopped playing it enough to warrant the subscription and went cold-turkey. Now, three years later, I'm back to playing it and rediscovering that what made me enjoy it is still there. This is all a long-winded way of explaining my viewpoint. I like CoH for the ways it isn't a MMO. And one of the main ways it isn't is the fact that the fun of the game is getting to Level 50 (something I hadn't achieved yet after two years of playing). It's the journey, not the destination.
  10. Re: The Doctor is Back ! Yeah, my bad for not being more explicit. I have some hope. The trailer seems to portray him as a tortured hero, risking his soul for the sake of innocents, and the stories did have that feel (at least the ones I read). Besides, there's the tagline at the end. ("There are many roads to redemption. Not all of them are peaceful.") I've created many a character with that motivation.
  11. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Now I have the mental image of a rival bard mocking Xasha with the song, just before being pummeled to a pulp by her and her confederates. And I'm not even in the game...
  12. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Why? Because I consider Xasha... pluckable? Another tune comes to mind... "Why smilest thou, Lord Dragon, sir? Asked our hero in armor laden. Why, you’d smile too, the worm replied, If you’d just eaten a maiden." ... Could someone please turn the Smut Field off in here? Thank you.
