  1. Re: Elemental benders (Avatar) Here's my pass at Toph. To mimic the way the benders' abilities seem to be bound to their Martial Art, I gave her MA with Damage Classes bought Requires Earth & Stone. (I apologize in advance that I only have HD 2.02)

    Witch Way

Re: Witch Way The Triad (from Venture Bros.) should definitely live there.
  3. Re: Multitarget Abilities Another way to go might be to use Followers. Write up each Eye Stalk as a Follower with its own DEX / SPD & Attack Power (or MP). This also has the bonus effect of allowing the players to attack each eye stalk, disabling them one at a time. I'd actually like to see this monster once you get it up and running.
  4. Re: Who's Who on the Champions Online forums? I'm on as Brawl on the CO forums. Hope to see you all in Millenium City next year!
  5. Re: Code vs Killing, in your group? I agree with most of what has come before. I have noticed in our games that the PCs rarely if ever pull punches against known supervillains. They might pull punches against agents and thugs, but if Ankylosaur shows up (no matter what power level the PCs are) he can expect to get levelled with a full power shot. Basically, the mentality seems to be that he is a supervillain and as such the gloves are off automatically. We have never really penalized anyone for it or played up the fact that many gadget-using villains have been knocked into comas. Is this isolated to our games?
  6. Re: Chinese Zodiac Team Here is some info I pulled off the web, which may not help with Powers so much, but should help with fleshing out the characters a bit (Psych Lim's and such) Rat are noted for their charm and attraction for the opposite sex. They work hard to achieve their goals, acquire possessions, and are likely to be perfectionists. They are basically thrifty with money. Rat people are easily angered and love to gossip. Their ambitions are big, and they are usually very successful. Ox are patient, speak little, and inspire confidence in others. They tend, however, to be eccentric, and bigoted, and they anger easily. They have fierce tempers and although they speak little, when they do they are quite eloquent. Ox people are mentally and physically alert. Generally easy-going, they can be remarkably stubborn, and they hate to fail or be opposed. Tiger people are sensitive, given to deep thinking, capable of great sympathy. They can be extremely short-tempered, however. Other people have great respect for them, but sometimes tiger people come into conflict with older people or those in authority. sometimes Tiger people cannot make up their minds, which can result in a poor, hasty decision or a sound decision arrived at too late. They are suspicious of others, but they are courageous and powerful. Rabbit are articulate, talented, and ambitious. They are virtuous, reserved, and have excellent taste. Rabbit people are admired, trusted, and are often financially lucky. They are fond of gossip but are tactful and generally kind. Rabbit people seldom lose their temper. They are clever at business and being conscientious, never back out of a contract. They would make good gamblers for they have the uncanny gift of choosing the right thing. However, they seldom gamble, as they are conservative and wise. Dragon are healthy, energetic, excitable, short-tempered, and stubborn. They are also honest, sensitive, brave, and they inspire confidence and trust. Dragon people are the most eccentric of any in the eastern zodiac. Snake are deep. They say little and possess great wisdom. They never have to worry about money; they are financially fortunate. Snake people are often quite vain, selfish, and a bit stingy. Yet they have tremendous sympathy for others and try to help those less fortunate. Snake people tend to overdo, since they have doubts about other people's judgment and prefer to rely on themselves. They are determined in whatever they do and hate to fail. Although calm on the surface, they are intense and passionate. Snake people are usually good-looking and sometimes have marital problems because they are fickle. Horse are popular. They are cheerful, skillful with money, and perceptive, although they sometimes talk too much. The are wise, talented, good with their hands, and sometimes have a weakness for members of the opposite sex. They are impatient and hot-blooded about everything except their daily work. They like entertainment and large crowds. They are very independent and rarely listen to advice. Ram are elegant and highly accomplished in the arts. They seem to be, at first glance, better off than those born in the zodiac's other years. But ram year people are often shy, pessimistic, and puzzled about life. They are usually deeply religious, yet timid by nature. Sometimes clumsy in speech, they are always passionate about what they do and what they believe in. Ram people never have to worry about having the best in life for their abilities make money for them, and they are able to enjoy the creature comforts that they like. Ram people are wise, gentle, and compassionate. Monkey are the erratic geniuses of the cycle. Clever, skillful, and flexible, they are remarkably inventive and original and can solve the most difficult problems with ease. There are few fields in which Monkey people wouldn't be successful but they have a disconcerting habit of being too agreeable. They want to do things now, and if they cannot get started immediately, they become discouraged and sometimes leave their projects. Although good at making decisions, they tend to look down on others. Having common sense, Monkey people have a deep desire for knowledge and have excellent memories. Monkey people are strong willed but their anger cools quickly. Rooster are deep thinkers, capable, and talented. They like to be busy and are devoted beyond their capabilities and are deeply disappointed if they fail. People born in the Rooster Year are often a bit eccentric, and often have rather difficult relationship with others. They always think they are right and usually are! They frequently are loners and though they give the outward impression of being adventurous, they are timid. Rooster people¡¦s emotions like their fortunes, swing very high to very low. They can be selfish and too outspoken, but are always interesting and can be extremely brave. Dog possess the best traits of human nature. They have a deep sense of loyalty, are honest, and inspire other people¡¦s confidence because they know how to keep secrets. But Dog People are somewhat selfish, terribly stubborn, and eccentric. They care little for wealth, yet somehow always seem to have money. They can be cold emotionally and sometimes distant at parties. They can find fault with many things and are noted for their sharp tongues. Dog people make good leaders. Boar are chivalrous and gallant. Whatever they do, they do with all their strength. For Boar Year people, there is no left or right and there is no retreat. They have tremendous fortitude and great honesty. They don't make many friends but they make them for life, and anyone having a Boar Year friend is fortunate for they are extremely loyal. They don't talk much but have a great thirst for knowledge. They study a great deal and are generally well informed. Boar people are quick tempered, yet they hate arguments and quarreling. They are kind to their loved ones. No matter how bad problems seem to be, Boar people try to work them out, honestly if sometimes impulsively. Sounds like the group you have envisioned so far looks good. As far as the ones you have yet to fill (Ox, Tiger, Snake, Horse, Dog and Boar), I would suggest... Ox - Sumo type Brick with the KB Res Hermit mentioned Tiger - Invisibility and Tiger Style Kung-Fu is appropriate here Snake - Former VIPER mystic - I don't have my VIPER book here to cite the name of that group - (possibly turned COIL agent if you've run that adventure) Horse - Speedster maybe? Dog - Team Leader, I second Oddhat's Enhanced Senses plus make him dull the senses of others (flash attacks, maybe darkness) Boar - I think this is your Move Through Specialist with a high CON and REC. He stuns (or KO's) both his opponent and himself when he plows into them, but he gets back up faster. Hope that helps.

    x3

Re: x3 Whedon is doing something similar in his Astonishing X-Men run as well. This is also where "The Cure" storyline used in X3 comes from. I also agree that my fave X-Man is Scott (or Hank with many close seconds) and the least tolerable X-Man is Wolverine (by a landslide). Speaking of Hank, I really liked the way Kelsey Grammer portrayed him in the movie. In the scene where he and Wolverine double team Magneto (I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't seen it), I loved the way Kelsey shows the anguish/disgust over what he's just done. Even though the camera isn't focused on him at the time, his performance shows through. If you don't see this movie in Widescreen or in a theater, you may not see it as it will probably be cut to fit a TV screen.
  8. Re: Is it just me? (Or does this mini look like Ripper?) Here's a link to the Urban Mammoth site where they sell this mini and other VOID stuff http://www.urbanmammoth.co.uk/acatalog/Syntha_Miniatures.html There is another Hercules biomech that looks a lil more like Ripper and a Grav Bike that could easily be used for a VIPER Hover Bike. I really wish we had some pre-painted plastic Champions minis of our very own, like nolgroth I'm no fan of hobbying miniatures to use them in my games.
  9. Re: Hero and Villain Idea And of course they could have a child. Centigrade master of temperature control! I actually really like this idea (your original idea above not my feeble attempt at humor), it would be great in a group of die hard RPers.
  10. Re: What power would I use to represent this?
  11. Re: What power would I use to represent this? Buy it as Tunneling since you only want to use it against inanimate objects anyway. Maybe with a Full Move Lim on it.
  12. Re: Need help with building Psiwhips When I get home, I can work it out on HD and post it for you, but basically the whips would be stretching with a no range offensive damage shield built in so that anyone touched (grabbed, hit, etc) would also take the Damage Shield damage which in this case is an Ego Attack. You would roll to hit against DCV with the stretching and if you hit the Ego Attack damage would just happen without an ECV attack roll. Also if you buy it as Stretching, and someone severed the "lashes" it would be a normal attack aginst your character, so the more powerful the attack, the more damage you would take.
  13. Re: One-Trick Pony Campaigns When I first looked at this thread it made me think of a Dark Champions Campaign in which the characters are limited to a single 45 AP Power to accentuate their Skills and Talents. I still think this could be cool to do. Along the lines of a Bloodline of OTPs I would think of more of a Modern HERO type of game with a rival family / organization that the PCs would be working against. The vast majority of combats would be between the PCs and skilled normal agents or against the creatures / creations spawned by the rival in their bid to take over the world / undermine the PC family. I may steal this idea...thanks
  14. Re: Need help with building Psiwhips You can use Mental Powers with the No Range Lim (which should be worth more on a power with No Range Mod) and an offensive Damage Shield. I would think that if these "lashes" were severed that you would experience some type of psychic feedback.

    Iron-Man Movie!

Re: Iron-Man Movie! I would really like to see a villain that destroys tech as the villain, maybe Malleon (a relatively recent and short lived IM villain), but definitely something that shows how Tony Stark saves the day, not the armor. Perhaps something Tony created long ago that AIM got ahold of and mutated / evolved into a sentient techno-virus. Hell, maybe in the Marvel movie-verse Tony Stark creates Ultron instead of Hank Pym (pretty unlikely we're getting a Hank Pym or Avengers movie anyway). Doesn't look like Cruise is involved ATM, but you never know. Favereau has solicited feedback from the fans and maybe he will check here (once I include a link to this thread in the myspace blog) on who he should cast for the lead as well as anything we would like / dislike seeing in the film. This thing is still in the very early stages and as others have said he is definitely a fanboy of the material. People have suggested everyone from Leonardo DiCaprio to Oded Fehr to John Stamos to play Tony. I'm curious what you guys think. Glad to hear that some of you guys are excited about this film too. I will try to keep the thread updated if I read more.

    Iron-Man Movie!

It has been announced that the first movie from Marvel's new film slate (backed by Paramount) will be Iron-Man. Jon Favereau, a great director who also played Foggy Nelson in the Daredevil film, is the Director. He has a Blog on myspace if any of you are interested. There is a link to the blog on superherohype(.com)
  17. Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread. And I think she was flying in the last pic we saw of her, so she could be hoisting that tank in mid-air. Either way, impressive!
  18. Re: Superhero Images Great pics all around. The digital stuff is okay and all, but I prefer the hand drawn work. Just my preference not a knock on anybody. Thanks for the pics guys / gals

    Pesky Vehicles.

Re: Pesky Vehicles. I had a player in a game once who wanted to play this type of character. We (the player and I) limited his DEF to the DC max for the campaign. This meant that if he got hit with a good shot, his armor (vehicle) would be damaged. Then it was just a matter of refering to the Vehicle Damage Table in the FReD whenever the armor (vehicle) took BODY damage. I'll post the character later if anyone's interested.
  20. Re: Tattered Plot Threads FYI, I went with a combination of the legacy hero idea and the invasion ideas. Thanks again all! Good gaming!
  21. Re: Help with Mental Power All fine suggestions for the power you asked our help in designing. I would offer you another way to think about the problem. If the PCs are always designating the Egoist and dropping this soft target first, make the Egoist not so soft. I call it the Despero Approach. In DC, there is an extra-dimensional conqueror named Despero who originally appeared as a wimpy little purple guy with a weird fin on his head and a third eye. Over the decades, Despero has become a Super-Man level brick on top of his mental abilities. So your PCs come on the scene and one of them is Ego Attacked. They know the drill and zero in on the villain holding his temple and staring intently at the target of the Ego Attack. They unleash a barrage of attacks on another easily defeated Egoist only to find that when the smoke clears, the Egoist is not only still standing, but is trading punches with the team brick. Don't fall victim to the D&D mentality that characters have to fit a specific archetype. Spider-Man is a perfect example of a top flight comic book hero that defies classification into a single archetype. Good gaming!
  22. Re: A Question of Utmost Importance from http://www.pantheon.org/ Mjollnir In Norse myth, the hammer that belongs to the mighty god Thor. Mjollnir ("that smashes") was made for him by the dwarfs Brok and Eitri, who made many magical objects for the gods. Every time Thor threw the hammer lightning flashed, after which it returned to his right hand, on which he wore an iron glove. Mjollnir was greatly feared by the frost giants, the enemies of the gods, for Thor had dispatched a large number of them, among which the giant Hrungnir. After Thor's death, his sons Magni and Modi will inherit the hammer. Old Norse: Mjöllnir. The Russian word for lightning is 'molniya'. Mjol•nir Pronunciation: (myôl'nir),
  23. Re: HERO experts.. help a NUB build his mentalist? Another way to represent Psychokinesis which is a little less pricey... Psychokinesis 50 STR, Ranged (+1/2), Based On EGO Combat Value (Standard Defenses apply; +1) (125 Active Points); No Figured Characteristics (-1/2) Real Cost: 83 points.
  24. Re: Build your own "New Avengers"! I thought Avengers Forever was a great Graphic Novel. I wish the X-Men would have something like it that explains decades of plot holes in continuity as well as telling a great story and predicting future team members. From what I can tell in the GN, the future Avengers member presented in Avengers Forever are... The wasp (Leader) Songbird Captain Marvel Thor Justice & Jack of Hearts I'm sure there are others, but those are the only ones shown / mentioned in the GN. As far as my choice for New Avengers. They would be set slightly forward in Marvel continuity. Justice (Leader) - He was a natural leader until Busiek turned him into a fanboy. I would love to see him return to leader status. With his wife Jessica (Firestar) retired and a young Astrovik at home, Vance is struggling with balancing the responsibilities of being an Avenger which he loves and being a better father than he had. Magni - Thor's son comes to the Avengers to prove something to his father, now the King of Asgard. Black Knight - The fourth Black Knight is from the future where the Atomic Knights are respected warriors and peacekeepers (like the Jedi Knights of the Old Republic). A decendant of Eobar Garrington, the Twelfth Century Black Knight Dane Whitman's spirit once inhabited, it was fate that he become the Black Atomic Knight. He wears a suit of powered armor that generates an energy blade as the tradional weapon of the Atomic Knights among other things. Karnak - Half Human/Inhuman, Karnak joins the Avengers to experience life beyond the shadow of the Inhumans. He has stark philisophical differences with Magni. Talisman - Opens up the mystic world to the Avengers, but Vance (Justice) doesn't trust her due to the events the team's last mystic heavy-hitter brought about (Avengers Disassembled) Fantastigirl - Valeria Richards turns 18 and joins the ranks of the Avengers to break away from the FF. She controls cosmic energy to create energy fields and nuclear fire, but she has the potential to be as powerful as a herald of Galactus. But can family ties and family enemies really ever be severed? Multiple Man - The Avengers don't just fight super criminals, they also help out in emergencies and who could provide more helping hands than Jamie Maddrox? Also, he is a great character and a great source of comedy.
  25. Re: I need your opinion I agree that it all comes down to how prevalent supers are in your campaign world and what super-heroes would be interested in the life of a Corrections Officer (CO). If your campaign world is like San Angelo: City of Heroes, then 20% of the population is super-human and it makes more sense to have a cadre of supers to train and employ as COs. If supers are rare, then only those supers with a penchant for corrections work would be suitable to serve as members of the Titan Guard. Some suggestions for these types of supers would be... Lockdown Once a common CO until an escape plot by supervillains exposed him to an unknown gas that triggered his dormant mutancy. Now Lockdown is a typical brick with the additional ability to freeze a fleeing inmate in his tracks with his Lockdown Stare (a Campaign Max DC Entangle, transparent to physical attack). He is often the first to arrive on the scene as he lives the life of a CO superstar in the prison industry. The Observer Dr. Avery Anderson was sociology professor who spent five years in a super max federal prison (for non-supers) as an expert observer / consultant to improve the effectiveness of the incarceration techniques. While interviewing a criminal who had been an unwitting agent of Menton, Dr. Anderson was mentally assaulted by the arch-villain and something inside his mind was forever altered. Now Dr. Anderson works for Prometheus as a consultant and tracker. His mind has developed the ability to read others' minds and sense criminal intentions in others at a great distance. He is called The Observer as a codename by Prometheus to protect himself and his family from reprisal by the villains he tracks down. However, he fears that the influence Menton had on his mental development may come back to haunt him someday. Inkspot A former professional tattoo artist, Darrel Grimes was hired by Viper to do some tattoo work for a local nest. During one afternoon of tattooing his three hundredth Viper insignia, the local hero team attacked the nest and Darrel was caught in the crossfire. One of the Viper agents Darrel had tattooed used him as a hostage with an experimental needle gun loaded with abiological weapon. Eventually, he injected Darrel to cover himself while he fled. Only the fast action of the heroes saved Darrel's life, but when he returned to tattooing in his parlor he found that he could manipulate the ink and even make his own body share the properties of ink. Darrel was not interested in risking his life as a super-hero, like those that had saved him. Instead, he sought out employment as an industrial espionage agent. Stealing company secrets with his ability to become ink-like and seep into otherwise secure buildings. Eventually, Darrel was hired to steal industrial secrets for Prometheus and was caught in the act. Instead of sending Darrel to prison for his crimes, Prometheus offered him a job in their Titan Guard. Darrel is now brought in on a regular basis to give tattoos as a reward to inmates who behave well and gather information inmates would never mention in front of COs. Darrel has no particular love for Prometheus and only works for them to save his own hide. The Orb Gurgakrii was tired of the politics on Soolasha. He was a scientist looking for a way to harness the energy of particular stars to power the underwater colonies of his people. No matter which bureaucrat was in charge, none of them seemed to share his vision for energy independence. Luckily, Gurgakrii had found a planet orbiting a perfect star for his experiments and that planet was covered largely in liquid water. Unfortunately, the most advanced civilization on the planet were land dwellers, but Gurgakrii had dealt with air-breathers before and had the technology to live among them as well as to traverse the stars to get to his ideal experimental location. Once Gurgakrii arrived on Earth and studied the way these humans interacted, he decided that there was only one company he could exchange technologies with in order to further his experiments. Of course, the humans would never deal with an Osathri (Terran Empire species) like himself, humans would never take an alien who looks like one of their giant catfish seriously. So he disguised himself in a great opaque orb and floated into the headquarters of Prometheus offering to provide all of their super-criminal transport needs with his advanced alien technology in exchange for funding to research energy independence. The Prometheus board of directors called him The Orb and agreed as long as they could own the patents on whatever he invented. Caring nothing of Earthly laws or patents, Gurgakrii agreed. Now Prometheus calls on The Orb to transport their inmates in his opaque, power dampening orbs he generates through the use of his advanced alien technology. Gurgakrii is jealously secretive about his technology, as it is his only bargaining chip to continue his research. Well, if you're still reading this I hope it helped.
