Tangent: I once knew a player who tried to buy Personally Immune on his movement, operating under the (mis)assumption that he would not take damage from his own move-throughs/move-bys.

"There's a sumptuous divan in the center of the room, and -- I'm going to spell this because I KNOW YOU GUYS -- a six-foot H-O-O-K-A-H in the corner."

The Paladin: "At the risk of sounding dirty, I'm going to lay hands on myself."

The Paladin, again: "Well, since I don't have time to use my Detect Evil ability, I'm just going to cast the free-action version,Assume Evil and charge the bandit leader."

"For the third game session in a row, you get a bad guy down to 1 Hit Point and he gets to stay there for three rounds. I'm not sure if this warrants a 'way to go', but ... way to go."

Illumian Artificer: "I suggest you seek cover, [The Paladin] is about to do something stupid."
Halfling NPC: "I know. I saw the holy symbol."

    "So, what do we do?"
    "I have an idea."
    "Is it a stupid idea?"
"Please, have you forgotten who you're talking to?"
"I remember precisely who I'm talking to, that's why I asked."
"If you remembered precisely who you were talking to, you wouldn't have to ask."
"So, it *is* a stupid idea."
    "Insanely stupid, yes."

This is a cheat, because it didn't happen this week. And it wasn't in the HERO system. But it was a Pulp Superheroes game.

    Let me set the scene.

We have Lawrence, playing snooty, alcoholic and corrupt English archaeologist, Reginald Spencer.

We have Charles, playing somewhat noble flying ace Sam Sterling.

We have Eric, playing a 'Shadow' type martial artist, The Zephyr. AKA 'Arthur Turlington'.

The three PCs were at a black-tie soiree in the 1930's. Reginald Spencer spots his rival archaelogist, vindictive French vixen Marie Belloq (NPC). After a short exchange of quips, the following perfect moment ensued :

Marie : Don't go getting yourself killed, Spencer. Your life is mine to end.
Spencer : Don't worry. I'll stay alive for you, Marie.. Professional Courtesy.
Marie : Since When are you professional?
Arthur, Sam (in unison) : Or Courteous?

Another blast from the past ... like, ten years ago. Wow, I have a weird memory.

I've forgotten most of the plotline, but the basic layout was that our Hero team had swiped a magical book from the mystical villain and he had managed to find us, and was demanding it back in bombastic manner, while we were lipping off.

Wizard: "That's it, no more jokes. I WANT THE ****ING BOOK!"
Crasher (not me, sadly): "Oh, you want the Kama Sutra!"

Flux (a vague pastiche of Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect, complete with a towel with a variety of powers) spots Riptide outside the warehouse.

War Wolf: She's all yours, Flux. Mop the floor with her.

Pickup D&D game tonight. I decide to do something I rarely do, a pretty mindlessly direct greataxe-wielding Barbarian. I hold off my one-and-only berserk rage until the end of the night ... and we encounter the main bad guy.

    I get the best initiative.
    I rage.
    I charge.
    I attack.
    I hit critically.
My 3d12 damage comes up 10,11,12.
Counting my Strength and Power Attack at the time, the damage came up to 53.
    Fight over.

Everybody just kind of stares at the minis and grid map for a moment. There's an uncomfortable silence, and then ...

Me: "Looks like the crit hit the fan.":D

Scene: Avalon (a Faerie Knight, presently with 10 levels of Growth active), has just been thrown, by me, onto Ankylosaur, while another teammate is trying to set up a shot to EMP Ankylosaur.
GM (to Avalon): "And you are ... on top of him."
Me: "Well, since it's through two layers of armor, that should qualify as safe sex."

"He's not brain dead, he's electroencephalographically challenged."

Avalon: "Ankylosaur has Vulnerability: Giant Fists."
    Me: "Then again, who doesn't?"

More than a quote, but ...
At the fight's finale, I had knocked a fully-shrunken Hornet far away from the fight while blinding and deafening him. With the other villains down, I suddenly had a brilliant idea.
"Hey, Flux ... turn invisible and prop Black Harlequin up. Everybody else, lie down and pretend to be unconscious. If Hornet comes back, we'll jump on him."
GM rolls a 17 on Hornet's perception check to notice that we're all faking.
    *WHAM*

I disagree about the not funny part.
Serendipitious external effects are always a great way to freak out your players. In a Cyberpunk 2020 game I was in once, the host's smoke alarm's battery was low, so it'd make a warning beep every 15 minutes or so. So, we get the game going, and of course, this happens ...
GM: "You slide the dead security guy's ID card through the electronic lock ..."
    ***Beep!**
GM: " ... and the door swishes open."

And all the players were looking around in that 'am I on Candid Camera' kind of way.
