  1. So, I was poking around the internet, thinking about Solar Hero and what kind of timeline human expansion throughout the solar system might take, and found this website.  It's got some pretty interesting stuff on there...helps a lot with future history ideas.

  2. The Fantasy Hero rules can be used for this sort of thing.  It gets weird if you have a huge number of very different combatants, though.  If you have the full roster of the Justice League as one side of your battle, you'll have combine some pretty different power sets into one unit to keep things manageable.  Also, the FH rules-as-written don't cover a lot of powers outside of KAs and normal attacks (Mind Control, for instance).

One of these days I'll actually have time to sit down and work out my full War Hero rules.  I started doing this under 4th Ed rules, and then started re-tweaking them for 5th Ed.  Now I guess I'll have to do 6th, and hope 7th Ed doesn't come out while I'm doing it.  (sigh...)

I should have time next year to do it...

  3. I recently read The Martian by Andy Weir.  It's about a manned, 30-day Mars mission that has to abort after 6 days, and a mishap during the evac leaves one crew member behind and assumed dead.  Once he realizes what's happened, he has to figure out how to contact Earth to let them know he's alive, and then stay that way until they can come get him.  Luckily, the next mission is set to land about 1000km away and in about 4 years, so, no pressure.  I read this in essentially one sitting, and while I am no astronaut, it seemed realistic...it was definitely realistic enough to get me thinking about the Solar Hero period.  I definitely recommend this to anyone setting up a campaign in that time period.

  4. If you can create and run a good story from scratch, you can convert a module.  Most of the issue with modules is getting the power level right for your characters, and just because you're using a module doesn't make it any harder than gauging power levels in a scratch-built game.  GMing takes a fair amount of eyeballing either way.

  5. Somehow, Hamlet's Father knew how he died even though he was asleep at the time.

The palindromedary wonders if ghosts can lie, for that matter. Or be in error.

The classical understanding of spirits is that they're not bound by space and time.  They are therefore essentially omniscient.  They also generally have no reason to mislead anyone, being above all that earthly ambition nonsense.

  6. Wow.. I didn't realize what I was getting into when I clicked this thread.  Well, I'm four pages in and just realized that it's 15 pages long, and I don't have time now to go through it all.

I will say that, IMO, the best way to go about any kind of FH Complete would be to package one of the settings with enough of the rules to build the stuff in that setting.  Turakian Age may be too big for that, but the other FH settings would be great.  Judging by the seeming success of weird S&S settings like those in Lamentations of the Flame Princess and Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG, my bet would be with Valdorian Age.

  7. I don't remember exactly (haven't looked at it in a while) but I'm pretty sure that's how they're built in the Bestiary. When I do stuff like this, I always make sure that it works with what's already out there, partly because I'm lazy, and partly because I hate non-backwards-compatible innovations.

  8. I don't think I ever posted this. It's a little something I threw together a while back. I realized that dinosaurs (true dinosaurs, not to include marine lizards, flying reptiles, etc) didn't really vary all that much. By grafting a few options onto a generic framework, pretty much any known dinosaur can be recreated in Hero terms. This isn't incredibly polished, but it may be useful to someone out there.

  9. That would depend very much on the campaign. A campaign of old school dungeon crawls will be very different from an urban Lankhmar campaign, and both will be different from from a high seas, piratical campaign.
