Re: The October Eight competition
It's great to see you again' date=' DocD![/quote']Ta! Back on track now following a frightening build up of deadlines. Since I've also been working with some new software (MangaStudio), hopefully I can get back upto speed properly.

Re: Commisioned Art
What about Doc Destiny? Does he do commissions? I think so.I don't really do commissions, sorry, I can't give the time required for them. What I do have however, is a freebie folder on my desktop, where requests go, and I dip into it whenever I get a bit of free time. On the plus side, it's free, on the negative, it may well take a while...
Foo also does commissions on a sliding scale - details on his devArt page http://evilmark.deviantart.com/

A interesting character resource is available at Tyler James' blog - The 30 Character challenge.
Basically, it's a call to create 30 original characters in the month of November, with write ups and art. They're obviously a mixed bunch, but since it's art and description may well be a handy resource for any character-strapped GMs out there.
I'm part of it - in my role as one of Black Label Comics' artists, but the range of artists goes from rank amateurs like me to big-time comic artists with too much spoare time on their hands.
The characters range from supers through to fantasy heroes, with everything from steampunk to horror in between.

Re: in the spirit of christmas!
Oh yes! Once more' date=' Dr Dee, you've put the ball straight in the back of the net. That is a [i']superb[/i] pic of the Silver Surfer.Cheers DB
Here's the first 2 pages of a web-comic thing I'm playing with, feedback very welcome!

Re: The October Eight: Artwork
Wow... that's awesome. I'l have to add the art to his character sheet.Glad you liked him
Here's the lineart of the next one, SenshiBat's Jade Rabbit.
Now I know my style's not at all manga-ish, but I've given it a go... I'll be posting the black and white artwork, then after a period of a few days where the character's creator can get in touch with any suggestions / requests / moans I'll start on the colouring. This will hopefully mean that the 'winners' will be able to get a piece they really like.
The October Eight; Four of Eight: Jade Rabbit, created by SenshiBat

Re: in the spirit of christmas!
I agree completely! I like to boast that I "discovered" DrDestiny' date=' having had him illustrate the NPC characters in Lucha Libre Hero. [/quote']And I'm very grateful!
Silver Surfer, WiP
Pencil / Illustrator (a bit) / Photoshop (a lot)
Background from NASA'a Hubble library.
Just playing about with my favorite superhero, and one I think my style's most suited to, in that he's not blown up to inhuman dimensions!
This is a very small version, larger one's on my devArt page.
Obviously the Silver Surfer is © Marvel Comics

The October Eight
This year, being busier for me than at the same time last year, the actual drawing and painting of the October Eight winners will take place throughout this month and the next. The competition is now closed, sorry!
This is the final colour version of Susano's Jonathan Roberts, esq., I hope you like him!

Great piece! I particularly like the fully fleshed out monster on the (beautifully) sketched in background.

Re: Naming the first superhero
Depending on where the hero comes from, Gilgamesh may work too.

Re: in the spirit of christmas!
You are a proper artist, Doc D. At least, I think so and I'm sure there are others here who would agree with me.PS: I know your Secret Identity, Mr Wyke.
Hah, I actually tracked him down by his handle on deviantART! And I concur with DusterBoy; Dr. Dee, you are indeed a 'proper artist' -- and what's more, you are an extremely talented and creative artist, with a broad understanding of style, media and mood...and I like your work.A lot.
Thanks very much The Huginn & Muninn strip I did the art for in this anthology is probably the work I'm most proud of, and a lot of the credit for that comes from Ian's marvelous script.

Re: Examples of low-powered/street level supers not from comics
The Champions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Champions) from the sixties were low-level super-powered agents, and in a similar vein, how about Captain Scarlet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Scarlet_and_the_Mysterons).

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?
I've been catching up on Castle, a series I somehow missed. Lots of fun.

Re: in the spirit of christmas!
This isn't Champions related I'm afraid, but I hope you'll forgive me this indulgence as found it very exciting. This photo was taken yesterday, and is of the mail writer Ian Struckhoff revieved, just in time for his trip to New York Comic Con, where he has a table in Artist's Alley.
Black Label Comics' Anthology #1 (blue cover art by me!) will be one of the books there, featuring not only an 8-page stip by me, but also work from proper artists like Craig Yeung (Mighty Avengers), Nikki Cook (DMZ), Blair Shedd (Doctor Who) and Daniel Gover Azure) amongst others.

I got really excited there when I read this thread title, as I thought you were talking about the Supercar!

Just a quick note to remind everyone that there's just about a week left to post here!

Re: The October Eight competition
It does look cool, and is especially fitting since Bones would have fought on the Union side had he stayed in.However, I'd been hoping to have an illo of General Bones to use with a character sheet when I go to present him in Haymaker.
So I'm of two minds.
No problem - I'll do something else, it was just a thought
