  1. Re: Pathfinder Campaign book Shrike has done a huge D&D 3e to HERO System conversion, years ago. The level to points chart is here.... http://www.killershrike.com/FantasyHERO/Conversion3e/Conversion3eStep1.aspx He also converted the first Pathfinder issue to HERO System terms....here: http://www.killershrike.com/FantasyHERO/Conversion3e/Pathfinder/PaizoPathfinder.aspx So....I don't think he's asking for really basic info on Paizo or Pathfinder so much as the actual book...
  2. Re: Which Champion are you Raised on a steady diet of comic books, you grew up to be an unstable lunatic, whose wacky ambitions are only matched by your delusions of grandeur. You're too crafty to get caught, otherwise you'd certainly be locked away in the loony bin! Take the quiz! I'm sure my friends wouldn't be surprised by this one.
  3. Re: Heroes Who Mess-Up Oh man oh man oh maaaan! Hancock could've been an honorary member of our group! Sad to say but true none the less. He woulda fit right in.
  4. Re: Show you story telling skills. I was inspired by just reading the first Story submitted and decided to write my own before I read any more. With that being said I apologize ahead of time if my story is too similar anyone else. It was purely coincidental. Also I'll try to keep this at the 200 word requirement. "Who do you think will get here first?" The question was asked by one of MCPD's finest as he leaned against the hood of his patrol car. His partner stepped out of the car, having just called in for any and all super powered assistance available. With a shrug of his shoulders he answered. "Probably Hype, I'm surprised he hasn't gone in already." With a grin the first patrolman said "Maybe he has and left already.". "He is in Alaska fighting Glacius according to S.N.N." answered the second patrolman with a shake of his head. "I hope Hype bothered to go around Canada this time." "Don't know, don't care, and I doubt it." said the second cop. "So-a what's the story here fellas?" The question was asked by a seemingly ordinary pedestrian with a New York accent, but the cops knew exactly who he was. Both patrolmen stood and walked to the center of the street with Rook. All three stared at front of the bar, its stained glass windows obscuring the insides. The second patrolman spoke first. "We saw Grond go in there, and you never saw a place empty out so fast. There might be one or two Lookey-Lous still in there hoping for a good seat when the action starts but we doubt it." "Alright yous fellas did yous jobs, now I'm gonna ask yous to keep everyone else who shows up out here wit yous" said Rook as his orange HOME DEPOT apron came off seemingly by itself. "What about back up? Shouldn't you wait for the other Mill-Men, or the MC8, or even the PRIMUS ICARUS units?" asked the first cop. "What makes yous tink I need help wit dis" said Rook with a curious expression. "Well aren't you going to fight him?" responded the cop with a tone of certainty in his voice. The floating apron suddenly flew in the face of the startled cop. "Hold dis for me will ya smart guy. Thank yous! Just cuz I was the bruiser of the Mill-Men don't mean I can't tink my way outta problems. Don't let anyone go in there after me. If I needs assistance yous will know it." and with that Rook slid across the street and stepped through the door. Inside Grond sat at the bar with a beer in hand. His gaze alone held the poor bartender hostage, but as Rook stepped inside that menacing gaze shifted to Rook. He was watching Rook intently through the mirror placed behind the bar when Rook moved over and sat down beside him. A short growl escaped his lips before he spoke. "I ain't wantin no trouble but I ain't lettin you take me in neither. I'm jus sittin here trying to have a drink and this guy won't even take my money!" Grond said with a nod in the bartender's direction. "Yous still got your beer dough" said Rook. "Thats cuz he knew better then to say no to me" said Grond. "I guess so" said Rook, and he spoke then to the bartender. "I'll take a shot of whiskey and a cold one." The poor bartender managed to get all the whiskey in the glass despite the shaking hands and even remembered the napkin coaster for the beer. Taking a sip of whiskey Rook gave bartender a nod to head towards the back. He glanced nervously over at Grond who was taking a drink from his glass. "Its ok pal, we're gonna be here a while." said Rook to the bartender. "We are?" asked Grond. "Hey I just came in on my lunch break pal for a cold one. If I was lookin for a fight I'dve said so yous know?" said Rook after finishing off his whiskey shot. "Yeah? Then what?" asked Grond in a suspicous tone. "Well then I go back to work and yous go back to whatever it was yous has to do... sos long as its not causin no one else problems. Den yous and I might have a problem." "I just wanted a beer and didn't have any at home." answered Grond. "Yeah I hate it when dat happens." said Rook. Two large glasses floated down from the overhead rack and settled under the tap as they began to fill with more beer. Looking up at Grond Rook said "I gots dis round, da nexts is on yous." "Sure, fine by me. My money is just as good as the next guys." said Grond. "But what are we gonna do about the cops outside and the other heroes who are gonna show up while we drink." "If deys want a drink dey can come in and buy one, otherwise dey can wait outside for us to finish and den I'll goes talk to em. Yous let me handle dem and everything will be fine. Yous will go your way and we'll goes our way. Everybody wins, nobody loses ya know?" "Fine by me." answered Grond into his glass.
  5. Re: Magic of Melanda: Rune Science Maybe this will help and maybe it won't but without further ado I give you almost all the work it sounds like you need done... er done. Courtesy of this boards own KillerShrike. http://www.killershrike.com/FantasyHERO/HighFantasyHERO/MagicSystems/RunecraftingSystem.aspx Hope it helps!
  6. Re: Bad news for Wheel of Time fans Oh I didn't think to look there... if only I had. Oh well.
  7. I haven't been on here in a few days but I'm still surprised to find no mention of Robert Jordan's passing away. While not being a fan of his work myself I figure some people on here are and would be talking about this. Maybe it slipped under the radar or I just missed it. Anyways to whom it may concern Robert Jordan passed away over the weekend. Looks like now we'll never know how the series was going to end! http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/books/09/17/obit.jordan.ap/index.html?iref=newssearch
  8. Re: Best magic system? This may or may not help you decide on what kinda of magic to use in your campaign but my buddy KillerShrike of these boards has already done 98% of any work you could possibly conceive of for any magic system. Heres a link, enjoy! http://www.killershrike.com/FantasyHERO/FantasyHERO.aspx
  9. Re: Who Is... Your Favorite Villain? While I'm not in the know about most of the villains either from the current edition or past ones I can say I really liked reading about Luthor Black. I think he gets my vote. Yes Luthor Black! Because he wants to rule the world in style and look cool doing it. Sure he has had set backs, but what villain hasn't? This guy is the very embodiment of commitment to a long term far reaching goal.
  10. Re: Pennsylvania Dutch Magic: design questions Well having been born and raised in the good ol' country side of Pennsylvania I just had to look in on this one. I lived there for eighteen years before joining the Navy and I had never heard of Pennsylvania Dutch Magic. Thats a new one on me! Now mind you this is not to say I never saw anything strange happen at night in the countryside. Believe you me I did and sometimes when I think about it even now sends a cold shiver down my spine. Now if you'll all excuse me I need to go put on a sweatshirt and turn the heat up...
  11. Re: [Character] Makeshift A good idea and one we were going to incorporate into anyways. Shrike is just waiting on me to give him ALL of the disads so he only has to update once. Still a good suggestion. Also as a side note we had decided that Makeshift didn't really hunt down Mantara so much as he was the first hero on the scene for Mantara's latest escapade. He caught her, stripped off the gear he wanted and then turned the villain over to the cops. Anyways FYI, thats all.
  12. Re: [Character] Makeshift Well thank you one and all for your questions, comments, and concerns for my newest addition to the Champions/Killershrike universe! I don't really have anything useful to contribute here but I'm glad you guys like the concept. I've always been good with ideas and poor with execution of said ideas. Fortunately I have Shrike for a GM/Friend. We were eating and brainstorming ideas about how to make a new unique PA hero. I suggested a guy who was too lazy to design his own suit but what if he took bits and pieces from all the other PA suits out there to make his own bastardized version. I mean so far as I knew it had never been done before and that struck me as odd. It also convinced me it was a great idea and Shrike whipped out his trusty note pad and pen and began scribbling furiously away. Meanwhile I poured through all the Champions products for everyone ever even rumored to wear a PA suit at some point. I wanted to have a little something from every PA out there but the concept proved to be expensive fast. I had visions of this guy with Ankylosaur's tail, Destroyer's dented helmet (remembered seeing a pic in one of the books of someone holding the Dr.'s battered old helmet), and a slew of bits from the other villains's suits. Oh well as I get the XPs I'll definately add in the more notable distinctive PA pieces to his collection. Stay tuned true believers!
  13. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Well for what its worth I only have three heroes on CoH now. I used to have more but deleted them. You can reach me @Hypothermic but I haven't been on since Halloween of 2006. Love the game still but it tends to distract me from getting anything done in RL like school, work, paying bills... Hypothermic Ice/Ice Blaster Lvl 45 Hazard Zone Invul/Earth Tanker Lvl 44 or 45, I don't remember honestly Pessum Dare Dark/Dark Scrapper Lvl 45 I may get back on again for a short time in the semi-near future. If I do I'll sound off here for an invite to the Heroboard SG. I didn't know there was one till now. Guess I should have though! I'm on the CHAMPION server BTW.
  14. Re: I'm Starting My First Cyber-Hero Game I'm betting veterans of the hero boards such as you two gentlemen are already aware of this but I'll post a link to Shrike's MetaCyber stuff anyways. Sounds like it will be a natural and easy fit for your campaign. Enjoy! http://www.killershrike.com/MetaCyber/MetaCyber.shtml
  15. Re: Tao of Yo.... Thought Id throw this out there. I couldnt find it but I remember watching as a kid the Smothers Brother show. Tom did his Yo Yo man skits from time to time and in one of them he was dressed up like a monk swinging twin Yo-Yos. Couldnt find a pic of it though. This was the best I could dig up. My search-fu is weak! http://www.smothersbrothers.com/smobro_bios/yo_bio.html
  16. Re: I'm mad at Killer Shrike You know you guys are gonna make him have a big head again and believe you me he already has an EGO of 30! That coupled with his cosmic VPP:Only to make any RPG genre into HERO format makes him hard to deal with at times Thanks alot guys!
  17. Re: Points for Spells vs Items, and the Money Perk Wow I was literally out hiking around the contryside of San Diego today and for some reason thought of the campaign Syravho was played in. Shrike pretty much said it all there too. I might add that Syravho had a veritable Batman's-utility-belt of magic items too, I had a trick for every occasion. Unlike most PCs I know Syravho didnt hoard his magic items either, many was the time he handed them out to his followers so the current quest would succeed. In fact for some reason I'll never understand the other PCs treated their followers like such crap that their followers (which they payed hard earned pts for mind you) "quit" working for them and came to work for Syravho after seeing how he treated his employees (ie Followers). The other PCs got rather irate about this and said something to Shrike, he just shrugged and said you lost these guys due to your own actions. They coulda gotten new followers if they had tried but none of them did. They just let the pts sit there unused while I of course had to pay for my newest hire-ons. They also were scared stupid by my first employee (read bad-dude swordsman bodyguard) and were always careful to stay on my goodside. As for all those magic items Syravho had, he didn't pay a single XP for any of them. Some he lost or used up all the charges on, but he didn't cry over the loss. Being of a rogueish bent he just procurred more when time allowed. One of the PC followers that quit his PC and went to work for Syravho (after learning that Syravho offered a fully comprehensive health plan) was a mage/thief who specialized in stealing magic items kept Syravho in good supply. The really sad thing is after the Player's witnessed first hand the power of some well spent noncombat effective XPs they still didnt try to do the same thing for themselves. They just dumped their XPs into making themselves better killers. Eventually Shrike suggested vamping Syravho for a VPP-magic item gadget pool, but that was at the end of the campaign and we stopped playing shortly after. *sigh* Good times Good Times! P.S. The health plan offered free resurrection if you died while completing the mission or use a Freedom spell if imprisoned buy the 9th lvl spell of same name. I actually had to use that last part to rescue my mage/thief follower:) ! Things along that nature.
  18. Re: CHAMPIONS UNIVERSE: NotW -- Updating Villains Personally I'd like to see Dr. Destroyer's update read something along the lines of "died in his sleep while tucked safely away in his base dreaming up another way to rule the world." I mean really the guy is 80+ yrs old. Granted he could live to be 100 and they say nowadays that 60 is the new 40 so the Doctor is actually about 60 now I guess but after 50 or so years of trying and failing to rule the world you'd think he'd just give it up already. I'm having visions of Pinky & the Brain episodes (and the theme song) running through my head as I type this. Thats what I really dont like about the guy besides his Villain name. Don't get me wrong if he had ever made an appearance in our campaign my hero woulda been a blood stain on the wall after meeting him. Mainly because I would have been taunting him with much of the above mentioned material! I think if I had been writing up the 5e Champs U. I would have had Menton kill of Dr. D. when he got back to the base following the battle of Detroit. After all the Doctor couldn't have been in too good of shape after that fight and Menton is already the best canidate for taking down Dr. D. IMO. Heck after he did the deed he could have used this little feat as one giant Amnesty-from-the-whole-world-card and who woulda denied him that. Heck the USA woulda been greatful I'm guessing, how often does the mastermind really get whats coming to him in the end? Anyone found ol Bin Laden yet? Aside from that everyone has pretty much hit every baddie I might have mentioned liking to see updates of.
  19. Re: Favorite Hero Book of 2006 I'd have to agree that The Ultimate skill is far and away the one of thee best game suppliments I've ever had for any game system I've ever used. However for sheer enjoyment of reading cover to cover I would vote for Worlds of Empire. Its a fantastic source book, and though I know this genre of Champions isn't or wasn't selling well before I would very much like to see more of this sorta stuff in the future. If ever I get off my butt and actually use the Terran Empire source material it will make things lots easier. As it is now I don't think I'll be running a campaign anytime soon. Mores the pity.
  20. Re: Millennium City/Doctor Destroyer Ideas I agree but from what I gathered these heroes arent newbs. Besides which even if they are then sending some 350 pt super-thugs to rough the PCs up is a fine beginning to lead into the grander battle/events to come.
  21. Re: Millennium City/Doctor Destroyer Ideas Eh I dont know if your Chess idea would work out as you said. This all depends on your interpretation of Dr. Destroyer's "honorable villain". While it has been atleast 2 years since I looked at Destroyer's profile in the CKC so I might be completely off on this but IIRC Destroyer only acts honorable as long as he's winning. This isn't to say you couldn't get him to accept the challenge of a chess game just that IMO as soon as you yelled "CHECK and MATE Doctor!" Destroyer would show your poor hero just how he earned his name by blasting you with a 20D6 EB (or any one of his other very nasty attacks). As to try helping answer the original post we never used Destroyer. However if I were to use him I think some of the suggestions given already are good ones. I don't think Doc would try more then two death traps though. Yes he has unlimited resources but the man is a genius, if a planned death trap didn't work once against the heroes that might be nothing more then a fluke. If a death trap (even a different one entirely) didn't work a second time then it wasn't a fluke and therefore pointless to try a third. Also I would keep Gigaton in reserve, if you bring him out too early then the heroes will know who is ultimately behind this all and the might ruin the suspense. Unless you want your heroes to know their going after Destroyer then have at it. Since this is your goal as a GM after all I have to believe that your PCs are of sufficient point lvl to tangle directly with the doctor at some point. Any hero or team of heroes who can do this should be known to the world at large and so too to the Destroyer. Therefore I would think he wouldn't ignore the heroes, as that smacks of idiocy and the Doctor is anything but an idiot. I think that Destroyer would recognize them as a possible irritation that can serve his purposes with proper motivation. So he manipulates the heroes into attacking other enemies or targets of elimination to further Destroyer's agenda. He might set them up to attack a viper nest/s, take on the Crowns of Krim, DEMON (remember he has an absolute disdain for magic), or heck he might even set up an encounter with Menton or Gravitar (He decided this is a good a time as ever to shut her big mouth) hoping one or both eliminates the other. Remember there are also plenty of baddies (Grond and Mechassassin just to name two) out there who only need money as motivation. Doc just has to throw a few million in their accounts, point them in the right direction and wait for the dust to settle. The doctor's plans should always resemble an onion. You peel away one layer to find another underneath, and another below that. To show Destroyer's true evil have these encounters with the various baddies listed be revealed as aiding Destroyer's plans or just his orginization. Whats better is towards the end to put PCs in a position where they have to ignore going after the Doctor who can wait for now and take on the immediate threat of DEMON (or whoever) hoping all the while that they won't be too late to stop the Destroyer. Also don't forget that many villains out there hate/fear Destroyer for various reasons. They might be inlcined to give some help to the PCs in the hopes that the PCs succeed where others have failed. Of course they too will want something in return for this help but thats all part of being a hero trying to save the world! Bottom line is this... don't be afraid to do your worst! This should be the end all be all of a campaign. The good Doctor is like 80+ years old, maybe this fight really is his last and he is bound and determined to destroy the world so no one else can have it either. Go nuts thats what I say!
  22. Re: Converting D20 Races to Hero Specifically, this page on Killer Shrike's site is all about Race Package Deals: Killer Shrike's Race Package Deals and this page is about converting D&D3e to the HERO System (which can be used for other d20 games as well) 3e Conversion
  23. Re: Bad Powers Ok I have a few ideas for this... 1)Breakable-Transform Anything into broken version of same. Slap on always on or inherent with some penetrating lvls, verses all non-organic items. The guy can cause all sorts of problems for a hero and hurt him as well with well thought out ambushes. Of course the guy has to walk everywhere but he simply cannot be incarcerated as he naturally inevitably "breaks" free! He might not even make it to jail because the jail bus breaks down, the cops guns break apart into the seperate components, and of course when this happens any and all other arrested baddies will most likely hail him as their personal hero and help him get away in turn! Just some ideas. 2)This here is my favorite though. Just have the villain buy some good ol naked power "advantages" except their limitations with UAA! For instance Delayed effect say one minute or so. Hit the hero with that and suddenly he can't do anything for one full minute! Not to your taste how about increased END x10! OOC- Hey Captain Blasto how much does that 20D6 EB of yours cost? Now it costs alot more, are you burning STUN yet? Cripes the possiblities are nearly endless with this concept and yet none of them are truly useful for a hero per se but perfect for hunting down other supers who got the kewl powers. Ok I had another one but I forgot it, so if/when I remember I'll come back and throw it up. Hope these help!
