  1. Here’s a question for you: How do you defeat a villain that has abusive Blocking, Deflecting or Reflecting abilities? I’m talking about being effectively invulnerable by always stopping incoming attacks, ranged or hand-to-hand, by turning the rules into a GM-approved pretzel. For example: super high OCV (bonuses to block / deflect), maybe built on a trigger with extra Speed for it, AOE, etc. so the villain can still attack, or protect teammates who can, etc. Just wondering! ?
  2. Hello, How would you be able to block, deflect, or reflect area of effect attacks? Are AoE's unable to be stopped by those maneuvers/powers? Let me know as this came up in my last game.
  3. Hello, new to this forum, but not to champions or hero system, although a few things have changed since the last edition I saw. Played a lot of superhero champions and a few fantasy hero games in the 80's, and thinking about trying to introduce it to current pathfinder/D&D group. That said, I'm trying to make a power and not getting where I want to. I'd like my villain to be able to make shields as a blocking action (like, abort his next action) that are barriers. I can build the barriers (X rPD, X rED, Non-anchored, cannot englobe, instant, larger (+1 by +1 M), 1 Body, always same Red Hex shape). but I think making them is an attack action, and so he couldn't make them except on his attacks. Am I right? How could I build this? I'd like to make a slightly but not horribly annoying mini-boss, who can defend himself by making a wall that blocks the next attack shot at it; so if he builds a few walls, he can protect himself from attack from a few different directions. Hopefully I'm explaining this well enough; if not, please let me know. Thanks, Stel
  4. For some reason I was under the impression that when you used a shield's DCV value as OCV to Block it functioned only as OCV. Essentially since you were actively using the shield as OCV you lost the passive DCV it offered. Now I just read a combat example that counted the shield for OCV in a Block and still counted in the character's DCV at the same time. Have I had this wrong in my head this whole time? Or is the combat example incorrect?
  5. Thank you, I think I understand that much. Your patience, like your name, is Long. No, consider this hypothetical (the situation that actually inspired the question) Alpha takes greater exception to Beta's comments than to Gamma's, strikes at Beta. Gamma, who used points saved on DEX to buy Penalty Skill Levels vs Blocking for Another (among other things) Blocks this attack. Beta strikes Alpha for minimal damage, adding injury to insult. Is the situation the same as the previous one - that is, it matters whose attack was blocked and who did the blocking, but it doesn't matter who was being attacked? Lucius Alexander The palindromedary says the answer to the question, is the attacker's phase delayed or the blocker's phase hastened? is decided by the attacker, who can delay their own phase by attacking the blocker, or can hasten the blocker's phase by choosing some action other than attacking the blocker.
  6. Drizzled Drowburden the Dark Elf ranger has a DEX of 23. Gnu Kiddondablok the barbarian Human of the Wildebeest Clan has a DEX of 14. Belanta Blockyerknockoff Human mercenary has a DEX of 8. All have SPD of 3. Voices have been raised, weapons have been drawn, and more than Combat Values are being found Offensive. Drizzled attacks with both swords, but Belanta aborts to Block. Gnu hits Drizzled for minimal damage. Next phase, because Belanta blocked Drizzled, Belanta gets to act before Drizzled. My question is, what will the order of actions be? First Hypothesis: 1. Gnu acts on DEX 14 2. Belanta acts on DEX 8 3. Drizzled acts last, because he was blocked by Belanta and must go after her. or Second Hypothesis: 1. Belanta acts first because she gets to move before Drizzled because she blocked him 2. Drizzled acts on DEX 23 3. Gnu acts on DEX 14 I suppose there's probably an obvious answer under my nose but I'm not seeing it. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary thinks the question should be phrased as: Does blocking someone with a higher DEX potentially hasten your own next action, or delay theirs?
