Hi, Everyone! I just posted some character write-ups for heroes featured in the fantasy RPG game Shining Force for the Sega Genesis console in an exercise of fun nostalgia. I tried to keep the write-ups simple and are intended for new players in the Hero System. Special thanks to Killer Shrike for his package deal write-ups on Centaurs and Dwarves that helped me develop these character conversions. Enjoy! 🙂

Shining Force View File Around the mid to late 1990s, there was a long gap for me in being able to participate in RPG sessions. To fill that void, I played Shining Force and Shining Force II on the Sega Genesis console. They were fun games at the time and "scratched that proverbial itch." More recently, I saw them being featured on the re-released Sega Genesis 30th Anniversary console as part of the 40-game package provided. Seeing it again made me feel nostalgic, so I wrote up stats for some of the key characters. My intent was to keep those characters simple and reasonably replicate them from the game. If used them at an event, they would be for players who were new to the Hero System. The characters featured are Maximillian (main hero the player uses), Mae (centaur knight), Anri (human mage), and Luke (dwarf fighter) in a Zip file with Adobe pdf and Hero Designer files. Enjoy! 🙂 Submitter fdw3773 Submitted 05/29/2020 Category Characters Rules Version HERO System 6th Edition

The recent Champions forum thread HELP! Is this power/maneuver combo OP (over powered) started me thinking about a similar setup I had created for John Wick for 6e. Specifically, I started thinking about the END costs in a Heroic level game where STR costs 1 END per 5 points of STR used. So a weapon that has a STR Minimum of 10 means at least 2 END per attack made with it. Now, if the question was involving swinging an HTH weapon like a sword or a staff that seems to make sense. Add in the rules for Multiple Attack (the 6e version of Sweep) and a character making multiple attacks per Phase can very quickly spend more END than their RECovery in less than a TURN. But what about when using Ranged weapons like guns where the STR Minimum doesn't do anything that actually affects damage but is primarily about 'controlling the weapon when fired'? AFAIK, the use of Multiple Attack with a gun still means paying END for all attack attempts. So given a typical 9mm handgun with a 9-10 STR minimum means 2 END per shot fired. And what about Autofire as a Naked Advantage only with guns? Does that still require the 2 END per shot fired? Anyway, to address those concerns I added the following two upgrades to the John Wick build linked to above: 4 Shooting Stances: Reduced Endurance (0 END; Naked Advantage; +1/2) for up to 17 Active Points of STR (8 Active Points); Limited Power - Only for firearm STR Minimums (-1) [Notes: STR normally costs 1 END per 5 STR used in Heroic games. Examples include: C.A.R. System (Center Axis Relock), Weaver Stance and Isosceles Stance.] - END=0 I also upgraded Reduced Endurance to 0 END on the following. 17 Quick Fire: Autofire (3 shots; Naked Advantage; +1/4) for up to 60 Active Points of Any Semi-Automatic Weapon of Opportunity, Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1) (30 Active Points); OIF (Any Semi-Automatic Weapon of Opportunity; -1/2), Concentration (1/2 DCV; -1/4) [Notes: Autofire imposes an additional +5 STR Minimum to any weapon used. This can be offset by using the Brace Maneuver.] - END=0 Do these seem like overkill? Comments welcome. HM

Gunsmoke is one of the main characters in my current campaign "Something Wicked This Way Will Come" Gunsmoke was a budding Bushranger in 19th century in the Brisbane area, while escaping from the police he and his companions rode straight through an aboriginal cemetery, through some sort of portal and into the Dreamtime. Gunsmoke and his companions had many adventures together within the dreamtime, unfortunately one of his companions was a Vampyri, who slowly and secretly killed off the group. Gunsmoke, by now out of ammunition, fled when he discovered the Vampyri. Wandering into an Aboriginal Encampment half starved and dehydrated, he was nursed back to health and taught how to survive in the wild. Later, his tale of the Vampyri, (known as a Talamaur to the Aboriginals) encouraged the Elders to conduct a special ritual to empower Gunsmoke with the means to hunt and defeat the Talamaur. Afterwards Gunsmoke was somewhat resistant to injury, he even healed faster, he didn't need to sleep as long, nor did he need to eat as often, could see (detect) magic, mystical objects and creatures and his gun now fired bullets without having to be loaded. He recently leaped through another portal pursued by a giant snake, ending up in New Brisbane in the year 2015.-
