  1. Re: Need a few suggestions for new girl on the block

Sorry to nit-pick' date=' but the DC-1 was a prototype. ONLY ONE was built and it was never sold by the Douglas Commerical Airplane company. DC-2's were built in some numbers (150 or so if my memory serves me correctly). DC-2 was 4 feet longer than the DC-1 and more cargo/passenger capacity.[/quote']

Additionally, the DC-1 had a disconcerting habit of stalling in the air. Something about the transmission having been installed backward. In my world, the Mitchem twins helped sniff out this little problem. Later, the Colonel uses his pull to get my team back from Africa quickly, winning them a flight with the famous Aeropostal pilots Jean Mermoz and Antoine de Saint-Exupery in a Couzinet 70 Arc-en-Ciel, retracing Mermoz's famous non-stop flight from Dakar to Natal.

But really, nit-pick all you want. My well-read players have...;)

Fair point, but then the "real" Chandler wouldn't last 5 minutes in a Pulp game. Had to do something to toughen him up. Hmm...maybe a Psych Lim reflecting lack of self-confidence?

    or "underconfident"?

  4. Re: Need a few suggestions for new girl on the block

LOL -- I think that's de rigeuer for all globetrotting Pulp Hero campaigns, mine included.

In mine, the characters also get a little red dot sticker on the Big Laminated Map of the World of 1935 whenever they complete an adventure.

That is very cool. Where can I get one?

  5. Re: Need a few suggestions for new girl on the block

    Boy do I!

Crystal Skulls. :) Very interesting, and according to some, very occult. ;)

Re. the occult side of things---

For the believers' POV, see http://www.crystalinks.com/crystalskulls.html

    For a somewhat doubting write-up, see http://www.dreamscape.com/morgana/nereid2.htm

For an out-and-out "this is baloney" POV, see http://skepdic.com/crystalskull.html

Another possibility is Mayans or Aztecs living as did their ancestors, in some hidden valley/island in a swamp. Perhaps including human sacrifice. :eg:

I am doing Crystal skulls, but your links might be handy. I am having trouble figuring out the "colors" of some and how many there are (12? 13?). But really that is some freaky weird stuff. Right now my Archeologist guy's really confused as they have run into 2 skulls so far in very different contexts. I will try and get some of that written up an posted.

One other thing Monica had was being insanely competitive

oh yes! esp. with Ross. She thought he was the miracle child and their parents favorite. And she ALWAYS had to be the hostess.

    Joey: How u duin? :D

Also, in Phoebe's court, she was a cab driver for a while, so she might have AK: New York (if you think she could get by being a cab driver). On the sub plot tilt, she also found out she has a half-brother by affair or divorce (can't remember which). He could be a DNPC.

    Jak

I don't think Pheobe was a cab driver. I think that was her grandmothers cab. But she should definately have streetwise

  8. Re: Friends, 1934

I don't know about your Chandler. Really, on the show, he's a bit ineffectual and he's the clown. Your write up seemed a bit too sauve. He tends to mess everything up for himself. Of all the characters on the show, he seems most uncomfortable with himself and his lot in life. He wants more, but does not seem to think he deserves it. He tries to swing with the "big business" but does not like it. He is good at it but has no confidence and it does not make him happy. He sees himself as a loser and cannot handle that, thus he must always make a joke.

I think you nailed joey except I think his seduction should be higher. He could make a girl swoon with a sentence!

Monica, BTW, could not hold her liquor. Drinking too much got her in trouble more than once, I remember the fun bobby episodes and the Chandler and Monica get together episodes to name just a couple.

I like your Pheobe a lot. I think she would have psycic powers. But I think she should have conversation or something. She could get the best of anyone in an argument (esp. Ross) and delighted in winning the upper hand that way. Also, Jazz is spelled wrong.

Rachel is good! I like your back story on her - very appropriate. I also like that you gave her combat driving.

Ross is great too. But he did not have a spider monkey, he had a Capuchin Monkey - much like the one in Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark.

  9. Re: Need a few suggestions for new girl on the block

Thank you everyone! I have a ton of stuff to consider now. Some new, some reinforcement of old ideas and things I'd forgotten (like: well duh, there's a timeline in that new pulp hero book I bought - silly me). So far, I do have some plans for the "collector-high-society guy" - someone who just managed to screw the team over in Africa actually (in a new guise perhaps). Also have a working plot set up for some stuff in Central America (anyone have suggestions for that end of the world?). We just met some Nazi's (and stole some books from them and witnessed (helped?) the burning of the Reichstag. I'll throw out details if anyone really wants them, but don't want to bore ya. Was hoping to hit the far east too at some point, so the Tibet idea really helps! Again, thanks all around (and don't stop!)

  10. Hi all, I'm new to the board and generally new to this posting thing. but I found this thread and thought: "hey! exactly what I need!" You see, I am also rather new at being the GM. My regular HERO group's regular referee needed a break,so dumb me, I said, "I've been kicking around a pulp kind of idea set in the 30s" Well they all wanted in. So I threw together (with the help of my husband) a few adventures that went over moderately well. Then "my turn" was supposed to be over for awhile (regular GM ready to roll again, ha ha). but life kicked that game's *** and now I am in the spotlight with far less time to "mull through" my various plot lines. So, I am asking for suggestions: My timeline is vaguely historical, so I am looking for a late 1933 or any 1934 event with occult and pulpy overtones. Any occult history buffs out there that can help?
