  1. Re: Pulp great passes

After I saw this a day or so ago, I went looking for a Cartier gallery online. There are galleries for other pulp artists online, so I thought there would be one for him. Unfortunately, I could not find one.

Anyone know if such an animal exists?

  2. Re: Pulping the Renaissance

    Thoughts for influences.

    Any more?

There was a book a few years ago entitled Ariosto Furioso by Chelsea QuinnYarbro, that dealt with the poet of Orlando Furioso, one Ludovicio Ariosto. There is a lot of fantasy elements in it, but as I recall (from over 25 years ago), that it was a pretty good read, and may be helpful

  3. Re: Tramp Steamers crew.

    Spence,

If this is any indication of the work you do, please by all means, let me know when you are ready to port this stuff over to Project 1557!

This is the kind of information that is needed! If you need help, let me know and I'll get the article in place.

    Please don't forget me! :help:

    Thanks

  4. Re: Elementary, My Dear Watson

    2) In contrast with the familiar Nigel Bruce portrayal' date=' Watson is not a stupid person. He's quite intelligent -- the man's an M.D., for crying out loud! He only [i']seems[/i] dim when compared to Holmes.

Thank you for echoing what I have said within my circle of friends for a number of years.

Too many times, we have seen the Nigel Bruce interpretation of Watson portrayed. I for one would love to see a confident, intelligent, competent assistant to the great Consulting Detective....

  5. Re: Images of Lost Cities

Then we went to the Chichen Itza pyramids built in 600AD and realized that the Spanish were newcomers and I really got to know what ancient means in the Americas.

I can't wait to get to European and Middle Eastern ruins and really rock my world.:)

I had the opportunity to visit England a few years ago and saw a section of Hadrian's Wall from around 100 AD.

Then about three years ago, my wife and I visited Athens, Corinth, Patmos, and the sites of five out of the Seven Churches of Revelation. Really made me reevaluate the meaning of the word 'old.':jawdrop:

  6. Re: Pulp Hero Resources

Help! I somehow got into a chunk of You-Tube yesterday which had short movie showing stop motion pteradactyls attacking a zeppelin. It was made by splicing together old 20'30's movies, newsreel footage and some decent edits.

But, as in all things You-Tube, and an overactive cookie / history cleanerI can no longer find it. I think it was called zeppelin vs pteradactyl. Can anybody get me a link?

    Here you go:

  7. Re: New scientific discovery? The backbone of pulp...

OddHat, I've been looking for something to help fill in the Pulp Science section of the Pulp Project 1557 wiki.

This would be a nice summary, as well as all the other discussion on radium and other 'scientific' advances available...

Frankenstein's Journals (actually the journals of Johann Konrad Dippel). Covering experiments taking place between 1702 and 1730, the journals detail Dippel's highly successful experiments in the use of alchemical principles to re-animate dead tissue. Along with the remarkable work of Griffen, Jekyll, Giberrne, Nemo, and others, these form the basis of so called "Mad Science".

Mad Science is distinct from more traditional research in that

    • (1) its results, while demonstrable, are not always reproducible,

      (2) the results of experiments often seem to depend on the experimenter, and

      (3) core principles and key data are often concealed by experimenters, and must be re-discovered by the researchers that follow. This is compounded by the (possibly apocryphal) tendency for the records of so-called Mad Scientists to be systematically concealed or destroyed, and for their submitted papers to be frozen out, often unfairly, from peer reviewed publications.

The leading Mad Scientists of the 1930s include Tesla, Zarkov, and Luther.

  8. Berin "Uncle Bear" Kinsman's GrizzlyWiki is now featuring a section for a Pulp City Wiki.

The goal is to provide "A modular set of resources for any Pulp genre game that can be integrated into an existing city or used to build a custom city."

The main page can be found here.

  9. Re: What are your favourite Pulp cities?

At the Pulp Project 1557 wiki, I am currently trying to provide simple writeups for real-world and fictional pulp cities. Go to the Pulp Cities page and select the one you might be interested in providing detail for.

I have provided a simple format on each one, so as to make adding information easier. Check out the New York City page and the San Francisco page to get an idea of what I'm looking for. If you want to write a longer article on any of the subject headings, just create a new page for it, linking it to the main page.

You will need to register (for free) with wet paint to begin editing the page, but it really is easy to edit at this wiki.

Please contribute! I would love for this to be one of the major sources of pulp-themed gaming information available!:help:

    Thanks!

    Hank

  10. Re: Gemini Ascendant: Pulp Action!

Actually' date=' just for clarification, the original Gemini Ascendant campaign is a Space Opera (though I'll admit it has some Pulpy elements). This little side trek into a REAL pulp adventure was intentionally patterned off of an Indiana Jones type theme/feel. I'm not sure I captured that, but it has been fun nonetheless. :)[/quote']

No matter. I'd still love to see it, as it could give a wider audience of pulp rpg'ers some inspiration as they construct their campaigns.

Incidentally, Space Opera is a valid pulp genre, so I wouldn't mind seeing something from that as well.

But only if you want to....
