Does the character have some reason to believe there's an imminent attack that he can Dive in front of? Does he have any indication where the attack's coming from? Even if he can realistically/dramatically answer those questions "Yes," the GM may choose to penalize any rolls involved because the character can't precisely perceive the attack.
