digimod
I am relatively new to the game and reading through the rules as I create some sample characters. Are the optional rules for hit location widely used? I have the Gadgets and Gears supplement and I noticed that a helmet had the following limitation: Activation Roll 8- (only protects Hit Locations 3-5; -2). I didn't see anything like this called out in the 6E rules.
prestidigitator
Re: optional rules for hit locations See the Requires a Roll Limitation on 6E1(CC) p. 389. Particularly, "Examples include...armor that covers only part of the body...." Also see the Armor Coverage Table on 6E2(C&A) p. 212. Hit Locations tend to be used in Heroic games, especially those where people want more "realistic" or more "deadly" combat. Some people use them only for called shots, while some use them for every attack. If you are using gear in a campaign that doesn't use Hit Locations at all, but for which you do still have to pay Character Points for things like helmets, I'd suggest just deciding a general (average) value for the character's whole set of armor, and a combined Activation Roll as well, and basing things on that rather than dealing with different defense values and Activation Rolls all over the body.
