Scion Hero - One more time

After putting this down for a while I picked it up again today. I posted stuff in the past that was hazy but now it is time to get things firmed up. I wrote this in one sitting and is probably full of grammar spelling mistakes. Take a look at it and give me your thoughts and questions. I will post more as the days progress....

 

Scion:Hero

Thousands of years ago the world shook from the battles of ascendant men and monstrous creatures and stories of those epic times passed from generation to generation down to us. While historians have always suspected some sliver of truth in those tales, the truth was actually greater than their beliefs would allow them.

About eight thousands years ago the gates of magic suddenly shut by The Barrier and the age of the deities and monsters ended suddenly and seemingly irreversibly...until now.

33 years ago you were born into this world, regardless of what your mother may have told you, in a most dramatic way. Showing no signs of pregnancy (because moments ago she wasn’t pregnant) your mother suddenly gave birth to you....immediately. This makes you special, but it doesn’t make you unique because this happened at the exact same instant all over the globe.

Three months ago you world was turned around when you received a message from an attorney something about an inheritance. You and your “siblings” are the sign of the new age that is now come. Endowed with power you stand between the darkness that seeks to engulf the world. Whatever you thought about your family was shattered that night when the truth was unveiled. Not only was your “innocence” stripped bare but also the magic protection that kept you from the eyes of Others. The gifted of knowledge and your item of power, it is your time to shape the destiny of this world.

With your powers you seek to hold the evil at bay. Evil isn’t limited to the mighty Titans and their spawn, but even those whom the godpower has been given.

The conceit:

The Titans are the Cthulhuoid things, and the spawn of cthulhoid things, that are responsible for a lot of very bad things that go bump in the night.

There are other realms that had easy access to our world and took great advantage of that access until The Barrier shut keeping them for accessing our world but at the same time trapped many of them here in our world. Over time many of them learned to integrate in with mankind, even some of the most aggressive of the races. Those that have chosen to integrate with human society, even the most monstrous, are able pass as human to other humans. Those that rejected human society remain as strange creatures and monsters to humans.

With the erosion of The Barrier, access to and from the various realms is becoming much easier but the loyalties of those who were trapped may not necessarily lie with their native lands or their ancestors.

There are some of the former scions who were also trapped in this world but yet were able to survive over the millennia. They are growing in power quite rapidly, but they are taking more to the sidelines. The ages have taken a severe toll on them and while they may have the ability to tip the scales they may seek, instead to keep any side from succeeding.

1. Players pick a deity to pattern their character after. This does not mean that the character is the reincarnation nor does it mean that the character is a child of said deity, but rather it helps the player create an iconic persona to model their character after. Perhaps even more basic, the player should think of an aspect that the player represents [war, love, dreams, the hunt, the sun, etc).

2. Pick a “normal” profession that the character has been engaged in until that fateful date. The profession should somehow match the diety/aspect that you have chosen for your character. Thus if you pick Thor, perhaps you would work in a foundry, be an auto mechanic, a soldier, or Hockey Player.

3. Spend X points on super powers. You have to spend at least “x” points through your onee, special focus.

4. The foci go mostly unnoticed by most humans. They see it but often treat is as less significant that what it is...unless it is being wielded. For instance, a magic pistol may be seen as a pocket knife until he fires it and then it is a gun.

For the Others, those that chose to intermingle with society had to give up an aspect of their race (or kind)..becoming much more "mundane" but still having that aspect within their personality that works itself out in interests and occupation.

 

While the Others do intermingle with man, they also try to maintain a safe "distance". They will be on police forces join legal firms, but rarely will they ever take high government office. While some are state congressmen, the Others would use all their means to keep another Other from achieving a higher office or position. They feel that they are at risk if mankind ever found out about them and they have done a fairly good job up to this point in maintaining their position in society.

 

 

For instance:

1. A saytr has to give up its ability to magically enchant, but will still follow its carnal and Bacchanalian ways.

2. A troll gives up its mindless blood rage but will be a bouncer in a bar.

3. Likewise...groups of orcs will be much more "civilized" (no cannibalism an such) but may form street gangs and mafia groups

4. A vampire loses the need to feed on blood and many of her former powers but may be a surgeon.

 

But now that The Barrier is starting to fall, they are able to make a choice.....to go back and embrace their former natures or to remain as they are. To revert may place them at odds with their kindred who have chosen to "remain".
