  1. Re: 60mm Mortars

Does More Guns have Hero write-ups for everything in the book?

    What edition of Hero?

    TB

I haven't found any writeups missing The start of the book describes the weapons It then splits into sections for each system covered which discusses how the builds where done then a list the weapons stats for the system. It was written with 4th ed rules after Dark Champions was released (which helped in the fine tuning the builds according to the author)

  2. Re: 60mm Mortars

A few words for y'all wanting definitive hardware writeups

    (A) Danger International

    (B) Edge Of The Sword by Kevin Dockery

    Don't forget

Guns, Guns, Guns by Greg Porter

and the followup More Guns which has a Hero writeup for 60mm Mortars and a lot more.

  3. Re: How not to fire your weapon in Dark Champions...

Nah. Such a barrage would give us the "cassino effect" - mounds of rubble, impassible to the US vehicles, so they would have had to make a detour through exactly the same urban terrain they crossed anyway - just via a *longer* path. Meaning it would have taken longer to get to the Rangers perimeter, longer to get out *and* have increased the chance of casualties along the way.

In addition, it would have certainly drawn all the other militias into the fighting - increasing the number of hostiles pitched against US forces and it would have generated thousands of completely needless civilian casualties - a lose/lose/lose situation all round.

The Russians used this approach on Grozny, only to find all they had done was restrict their own mobility.

    cheers, Mark

    Lots of good points.

Also it should be remebered this was a humanitarian relief mission in dangerous territory not a war.

  4. Obviously my choices are related to my current campaign (a world travelling, issue driven espionage type of thing)

Of course we have to start with the CIA Worldbook http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/index.html for authentic detail on the various countrys of the world.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page Wikipedia just a great source of information (ok so a bit obvious but far to useful to leave out)

http://www.nisat.org/publications/armsfixers/default.htm an excellant source on how the black market arms trade works.

http://www.pbs.org/frontlineworld/stories/sierraleone/breakingnews.html a brilliant source on the arms trade including profiles of some of the real world players.

For getting a feel for countrys you have never visited http://www.travelblog.org/

http://intellit.muskingum.edu/index.html A bibliography of books on intelligence agencys also contains other info but overall unless you have access to a very good library probably not that useful

So what does anyone else have to add?

  5. Re: How to use the President

Hmm I used the President of the US as a target for a nuke :)

However as the game is set in britain the Prime minister is the equivelent character and the actions of the PM are felt throughout the game and they are a major plotline the morality of which is relative to which side of a very specific veiwpoint you come down on (security and safety vs personal liberty) I am of the opinion that if you are going to use high powered political figures in your game then they should be handled in a complex manner and never be right or wrong about everything (the mistakes can lead to all sorts of interesting plots).
