This article comes from the August 17, 2024, issue of The Economist. While that magazine chiefly deals in politics, business, finance and related subjects, it also sometimes reports on oddball events from around the world. This one could supply inspiration for a particularly twisted Dark Champions adventure... or maybe Horror HERO, if anyone actually played such a game. In brief, a Chinese online news source ran a story about a gang allegedly taking human bodies from crematoria and medical laboratories and dismembering them for making bone grafts. Last I checked, everything in The Economist online seemed to be paywalled. I hope they won't mind me p…

People often dress as superheroes and villains at comic book conventions. Coyote the Trickster gifted a number of people the skills of the characters they were costumed as and watched the fun.

I was going to make a big post with lots of pictures, but decided that it was a huge pain in the butt to find all that stuff. So I yoinked a couple and I'll put them here, expecting others to do the same. Criteria for this is that the gun is a bit different. Anyone can go and look up the military weapons of various eras that have been in use for some time. I'd like to see some of the different ones, though it doesn't have to be crazy. So, for my entry, I present two iterations of the S&W .500 Magnum X-Frame revolver. One is a full-on snubby, and one is a 4" barreled snubby. This is basically a big bore old-school style round for a revolver that really belong…

I started watching on YouTube Kyoto Video's video on The Professional: Golgo 13, and I'm thinking has anyone written up him or anyone like him for Dark Champions?

So, looking to join a street level DC game elsewhere. 300 points with up to 60 points of complications. Active Points: 50 - 60 with an average of 20 PD/ED Defenses are the guidelines. My concept is some sort of ghost/revenant who got murdered last year and "came back". And she's torqued that the cops and media don't seem to care she's dead or have done anything to solve who killed her and why. She was a burgeoning podcaster before her murder, so I'd like some minor sonic power as a connection (NOT a banshee!). I was looking at things like Sonic Discomfiture and Voice Negation from Champions Powers, maybe also the Kitty Pryde schtick of shorting out electronics. But th…

In a future distopia, where people with minor super powers are made unemployed by new robots. Apparently they started with Robot Cops, but the number of fatalities was unacceptable, so they moved to robot Dogs that supposedly use non-lethal methods to subdue criminals, however a corrupt cop working with a Drug Kingpin modified one of the robot dogs to inject poison into people. A VIctims little sister is a powerful psychic who can aonctrol electricit and she teas up with an Ex-dcon to get back at the corrupt cop that killed them. Currently on Netflix.

In worlds with only super-skills and gadgets and no real superpowers, would a prison in a Dark Champions universe be much different than the real world? Is there any information on Dark Champions prisons other than what is in the Hudson City sourcebook?

In the comics, the Batman can self-fund his relentless war on crime thanks to Bruce Wayne’s inherited billions. Peter Parker sells pictures of his masked vigilante activities to pay for his crimefighting expenses. On the other end of the spectrum from Bruce Wayne, the Punisher will blow away drug dealers and other lowlifes before walking out with one or more satchel bags full of cash, repeating as necessary whenever he needs to buy more equipment. How does your character fund their war on crime?

From the February 2024 issue of Scientific American: The world uses enormous quantities of sand, construction to silicon chips. This makes illegal sand mining one of the biggest rackets in the world, far exceeding other forms of illegal mining. Since this is Scientific American, much of the concern is about the resulting environmental damage -- but the big money in sand mining can corrupt governments at every level and fund other unsavory activities. Googling "sand mafia" turns up many other articles for further research. Illegal sand mining might be difficult to work into the usual urban vigilante Dark Champions game, but you might fit it into an internationa…

Adventurer PCs in fantasy genres are often a bunch of rogues, not very different of criminals. Sure, they have a code of honor, maybe... In present time RPG genres, crime-fighters and crime-doers are the most akin to adventurer types. I mean, a regular office working person has little adventure time, but a gang member or a cop could have more. That said, has anyone played gang members (one of them an undercover cop, of course), a gang war, or a similar adventure thing? If not, but you like the concept... Hudson City has many gangs, Dark Champions is a cool game, but I need some inspiration. Some general idea, something more concrete. May be stories of Maf…

I don't know how many folks out there are familiar with SCP (Secure, Contain, Protect) fandom out there. starting first as creepypasta on Reddit, it has grown into all sorts of activities. Recently they released a near professional fan film called Overlord, and i feel this could be an inspiration for a horror based, or X-Files flavored Dark Champions game. Take a look.

Is there any interest in a play-by-post campaign set in Gotham City in the Champions Universe? In this version, Gotham City is in Ocean County, New Jersey, just south of Toms River, New Jersey and is the county seat. Batman will not always be there and Batgirl will, sometimes, be working on her own case. The others that spend time in the Batcave are Alfred and Batman's engineer (and Bruce's handywoman) Bonnie Knight.

Batman's home town is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Wayne Manor and the Batcave are in the Pittsburgh suburb of Fox Chapel. If run by me, the campaign would be play by post.

From The Economist (7-22-23), a report on "Iran's Bizarre Contraband": Would you believe ...piano smuggling? https://www.economist.com/middle-east-and-africa/2023/07/20/how-well-connected-iranians-import-their-goodies Possibly of use in your Danger International/Dark Champions espionage campaign. Not that your heroes are trying to crack an international piano-smuggling ring, but it might be used as cover to smuggle other things. Maybe even a way for the heroes to smuggle *themselves* into Iran. Dean Shomshak

I have to admit, as a GM, I got nothin'. But this is the sort of driving I could see as an escape from a bad situation in Dark CHamp[ions, or Danger International. I don't think the Hero rules for vehicles are all that good. Autoduel CHampions may work better, though?
