  1. Re: Need your assistance in a Phoenix-clone

Cost of a Multiform is (totalpoints)/5. Not (basepoints)/5. That power costs 60 points' date=' but can be how you want it to be. (_not_ 50pts)[/quote']

Elemental Control has a 10 point value in its framework-base, making the 50 point cost of the Multiform equal to 60.

    Jerk?

    Thats a good one.

Didnt know I had an alias, WhammeWhamme.

How about keeping it civil? I am.

  2. Re: Need your assistance in a Phoenix-clone

Phoenix is the name of a city. It's a joke.

    Really?

Comedy Channel needs you and Supreme Serpent to do a duo act.

    As for your character...

    50 MULTIFORM: 300-pt starting form (50 disadvantage)

is not legal; disadvantages do NOT reduce the cost of a multiform.

    PER FAQ:

Could a character do this from the get-go — for instance, pay 60 points right off the bat to build an alternate form at effectively 250 Base/0 Disadvantages?)

Yes. It’s either 50 (points now) + 10 (Experience Points) = 60 points to do it the usual way, or a flat sum of 60 to just buy the form without Disadvantages. But you’ve got to have a valid rationale, acceptable to the GM, for doing this. You shouldn’t buy a form without Disadvantages just because you can. Most forms deserve their Disadvantages, just like the rest of us. :)

*I am not completely buying them off either, just reducing it.*

*Per GM, characters will be 350pts total + 100 pts disadvantages.*

    30 END RESERVE: 150 END, 0 REC, 250 charges/day (+1)

    will never recharge.

    PER FAQ:

What is the effect of taking Charges on an Endurance Reserve?

Activating the Charge gives the character the defined amount of END that Phase. If he doesn’t use it all that Phase, the unused END “vanishes,†depriving him of the ability to use it (he could use another Charge next Phase to get more, of course).

I will get the charges back the next day.

Oh, and the Elemental Controls are not book legal without GM permission.

Wouldnt put it in if he didnt say I couldnt.

Now. Were I to create a character like this... hrm.

First off, I wouldn't twink them in a way as to hamstring them should the GM apply the rules as written. Unless I thought I (the player) had Persuasion 17-... ...or the GM had "Psych Lim: Gullible".

Guess what, I am the gullible GM and this is a Champions message board.

    Not a insult/flame board.

    Grow up, little boy.

  3. Re: Is this a good idea?: Killing heroes

Guess I am from the old-school concept of superheroes.

    Examples of Superhero death:

Superheroes dont die, only their popularity when they retire.

The costumed hero dies and a mundane arises in a business suit.

The superhero faces great odds and dies in his attempt, whether it be a failure or not, to only arise again in a new form (whether it be a new hero with amnesia, a new hero with new powers or a brainwashed hero now serving the bad guy) --OR--

he returns as his old self YEARS and YEARS later in a time where he is barely remembered.

Villian and minions kill the hero, however like some insecure villians who have nothing to do if they cant challenge a suitable rival, manages to keep the hero under ice until the villian gets bored.

  4. Based on the input of several knowledgable posters, I was able to create a Phoenix clone.

The multiform-form of Phoenix is still infant but will grow eventually...

However, looking it at it, it seems she is pretty weak in regards to stats and maybe skills. Main thing is the stats that may require some increase, but I dont know what powers needs to be altered or reduced to buff the stats.

    Or is it OK?

    It is mucnhkin, I know...

  5. Re: Need Help with a character concept

I have a friend who wants to create an attack based on Storm Shadow an old G.I.Joe villian. Basically in one episode he used his martial arts to target a tanks weak spots. After going over the tank entire body it falls tp pieces. I was wondering how one would do this? Then again we are talking about old 80s G.I. Joe not exactly very realistic.

    Dispel (inanimate objects)

Causes malfunctions, things to fall apart, etc.

Can apply also to doing those martial art tricks of cutting a bottle in half with his hand without shattering it and with little effort.

  6. Re: Unbalanced Heroes

I am not one to be solely pointing other players of having unbalanced heroes, I am also guilty as a player and maybe as a DM.

Based on the advice of many great advice givers on this website, I created a Jean Grey-Phoenix sort of character.

Had mental powers of high strength (all at x5 END cost to bring it to a low cost), a single multiform linked to a Aid and Absorption (5 / year return rate) feeding it to high level, an END reserve with charges, and a bunch of other stuff.

DM took a look and stated concept was OK, playability was none due to its brokeness or unbalancing ability at start.

It looked like something that could bring the house down literally but will never happen, sad to say.

    It was fun creating COSMOS.

  7. Re: X-Men fans, need Phoenix clone!!!

I think the 250-pt. version of the telepathic Jean Grey (Phoenix IV) may have potential. Add in some telekinetic Multipower slots and the points in Multiform' date=' and with a little fine-tuning you should easily make 350 points.[/quote']

    Looking for input.

Used the Phoenix IV stats, plugged in 2 elemental control frameworks (one for Flight/Force Field/Ment Def, the other for Aid-to-Multiform/Absorption-to- Multiform/Multiform), mental Multipower, and a END reserve (0 REC, has charges giving END/phase equal to total END used/phase). All powers, offensive and defensive, at x5 END cost.

Looked at it afterwards, seemed very minchkin or abusive...however it looked like it would work.

  8. To my understanding, in a standard 350-point character game, if I purchased (for the first time) a Multiform that is 500 points (100 pts in actual cost), I would need to have 300 in disadvantages.

Question: If I first purchased a 350-point Multiform with 150 pts in disadvantages, do I need to continue to increase the disadvantage total if my Multiform grows past 350? (i.e. grows to 400, therefore you need to take 200 pts of disadvantages, etc.)

  9. Re: X-Men fans, need Phoenix clone!!!

I think the 250-pt. version of the telepathic Jean Grey (Phoenix IV) may have potential. Add in some telekinetic Multipower slots and the points in Multiform, and with a little fine-tuning you should easily make 350 points. You can use elements of some of the other writeups for inspiration.

I hope that helps - good luck. :)

I have seen these 4 characters previously...taking your advice, been attempting to plug in a couple of TKs (one regular, the other with fine manipulation), add forcefield, flight, multiform, and two ideas that I was given: aid and absorption.

All are expensive that has taken me past the 350 staring value.

Looks like I need to fine-tune even more.

  10. Re: City of Heroes... HERO

Ah' date=' geez, I wasn't even close to the Sky Raiders, yet. So I sat down and pumped this out. I'd like some feedback -- They're pretty tough, but they start at the 20th level.[/quote']

Is this attachment a HERO conversion of the Sky Captains?

If so, could I see it?

BTW: I dont have Hero Designer to view it.

Anyone ever HERO convert Dr Vahsilok and his undead beasts?

  11. Re: X-Men fans, need Phoenix clone!!!

My computer has been down for a while so I havent been able to respond to the inputs received.

As stated previously (actually, the first post), I am still looking for a 350-point character that is on the concept of being Jean Grey/Phoenix-like.

Got a lot of great ideas to build when I am a 800+ character.

PLayed Champions for a small bit, but not enough to create really great concepts or characters yet.

    Looking forward to your inputs....thanks!!!!

  12. Re: City of Heroes... HERO

    Yep. Still working on it.

Cool. My group just fought the Sky Captains last night, almost got our butts handed to them if not for a last-minute teleportation retreat.

Looking forward to some cools stats that are willing to give out.

    Thanks!!!!

  13. Re: Phoenix

We had never bothered to write-up Dark Phoenix since it would so out class any other character that we felt it was unnecessary. Kind of a poof! Phoenix goes dark and launches a 15d6 RKA, AVLD (Flash Defence +1 1/2), Does BODY (+1/2) [675 Active Points] at the object of her ire. (The only defense against that would be Resistant Flash Defence, by the way.)

Edsel, you have be a great help alongside with SuperSkrull in explaining Phoenix.

Ever attempted to writeup Dark Phoenix out of curiousity?

You also said you had a writeup for pre-Phoenix Marvel Girl????

I am asking a lot...thanks for all of your time...it does not go unappreciated:hail:

  14. Re: Things that work in comics but don't work in Champions

Champions RPG is a game that players create characters of their own....unique characters.

They all think dissimilar to each other, not the cohesiveness thinking of one writer.

RPGs have to be fair in all players, comics dont have characters whining or complaining about munchkinism, unfair ruling, and such. That is why each have same power levels.

Bening saved by a mega-powerful NPC depends on the GM, after all the players are the main stars. Most GMs wont do this idea, because the PCs are the heroes that need to shine and prove themselves. Too easy to depend on 'big daddy' to save their butts. No rolls for the mega=powerful NPC to save them, he just does.

  15. Re: Phoenix

Here is our groups version of Phoenix. In this version the Phoenix Force is lurking in the subconscious of Jean Grey. It subtilely manipulates takes a hand in matters whenever it desires throught the use of the 2nd VPP which it uses to modify what Jean (increase her efforts' date=' do minor independent things, etc.).[/quote']

Just humor me, Edsel, can explain how the 30 point VPP will actually illustrate the growing influence of the Phoenix Force? Isnt 30 points low?

Dark Phoenix is more of a plot devise than a character' date=' remember in the comics she ate a star! Our old GM once said that his idea of Dark Phoenix would include a VPP in the 2000+ point range.[/quote']

If a plot device, I assume there is no write-up of the 2000+ VPP Dark Phoenix character? If there is, please let me know....

Your ideas, like the others, are just great!!!! The more you can give, the better....

  16. Re: X-Men fans, need Phoenix clone!!!

You know: If you made it like this it could be interesting:

Base Form (Tk/TP) of "Normal" power levels,

Multiform (1 form) with Side effect and activasion (equal to Ego Roll)

Side efeect is that when the roll is failed the "Dark" version comes out...

Can you explain a bit more on these ideas?

  17. Re: X-Men fans, need Phoenix clone!!!

Well' date=' offhand, all you need for the Dark Phoenix scenario & writeup is to corner the GM and make him write that sucker up. If he wants to have the scenario, PC/NPC switchover and all, he's going to need to tailor that thing so it doesn't fry your fellow PCs like a handful of bacon on the grill.[/quote']

Spoke w/ my GM, he is allowing me to go for the idea and play it as a secret character (even a major villian) which would erupt versus the PCs. What is a little conflict among friends?

I have got a Hero 4th Ed. write-up for Marvel Girl and Phoenix. The Phoenix sheet has got our mechanic (guide-lines really) for determining when she could go Dark Phoenix. Unfortunately I just arrived at work and it will be about 9 hours before I am home again and can post any further information. I'll try to remember and post some data later. I am currently in the process of coverting all my 4th Edition Marvel characters to 5th Edition.

Hoping to hear from you, Edsel, with the write-ups.

  18. Re: Has anyone played in a game like this...

We played in a group that were of ourselves, we were torn apart limb from limb by killer undead prior to being devoured.

I sound so pathetic when I am reduced to mere numbers on a sheet of paper. Luckily, I was the last to perish among the inferiors.

  19. Re: City of Heroes... HERO

Did anyone ever writeup the build for Dr. Vahsilok?

    How about the Fifth Column?

We are currently playing in a Champions game based on City of Heroes and the GM is looking for HERO builds of the villians.

    Appreciate any input.....thanks!

  20. Re: X-Men fans, need Phoenix clone!!!

Absorption, 1d6, vs Mental effects, fade rate 5 pts/year, increased max pts 40 total, loses 5 pts/therapeutic mental event, only vs attacks that breech defenses, power total feeds into Multiform and at max can add 200 pts to the Multiform. This all represents the mental wear and tear that psi-combat can build up in a telepath's mind ala Mastermind's repeated psi-seductions of Jean Grey for the Hellfire Club

Aid, 1d6, to Multiform total, fade rate 5 pts/year, loses 5 pts/therapeutic mental event, max points increased to 40, No Conscious Control, Only when Ego Rolls are made for Psych Lims. This is to show how the stress of internal moral conflict can build up in a telepath's mind. Y'know, having to mind-control an innocent to forget things or feeling people die

I like these two ideas here, better than alotting xp to the multiform. Let me know if you got more input!!!!

Please provide them to me, I would appreciate your input!!!

  21. Had an idea to play a character similar to the Phoenix.

Not same but similar, let me explain: Create a Jean Grey-type mentalist character and have a Dark Phoenix multiform.

Premise is the mentalist can change into a super-being whenever she loses control (only when she loses control since she fears her dark side and tries to keep her emotions in check during stressful situations)

I am looking at a 350-pt character with maybe 70+ points going to her Phoenix persona. My GM is looking to play with this Phoenix idea in his storyline, eventually the group will be needing to end the threat. The multifrom ability will be on the back burner until she accumulated around some 1000 points.

My XP will be distributed each session on 3-2 basis, every 5 pts awarded will be divided as 3 pts to Jean Grey and 2 points to Phoenix (translate to 10 pts top the multiform)

Any one willing to show me their builds on this curious request?

(I have seen many Jean Grey and Rachel Summer/Phoenix builds but felt they didnt catch the right feeling. Ever notice theres no Jean Grey/Phoenix build?)
