  1. Re: der Westgote

Okay let me check my books...

Sorry, he's in Evil Unleashed and the Ultimate Brick

TUB, of course, the The Ultimate Series, I haven't picked up a single one. I guess its Evil Unleashed for my next purchase.

    Thanks for your help.

  2. Re: der Westgote

He should be in Champions Worldwide. He also appears in Evil Unleashed with a more accurate illustration.

He must be in Evil Unleashed, there is no write up in Champions Worldwide for him.

  3. There is a mention that Eurostar recruits a German brick named der Westgote, but I havent been able to find a writeup for him.

I have gone through News of the World all of the villain books and Champions Worldwide but am not having any luck. Does anyone know where/if he is written up.

    Thanks

  4. Re: Pyramid in the Sky?

Pyramid in the Sky - I bought it, read it once and put it away never to be seen again. It was 3 short adventures in one sourcebook. It was set up just like Shadows of the City, but was not quite as good. If you would like some more details PM me.

  5. Re: Ley lines and leyline nexus

OK' date=' thank you all for your input, but how about a little more, I found a nice haunted site...http://www.hauntedhamilton.com/gotw_bachelorsgrove.html

It looks good to me, but can I get your opinions on it?

    Hey Patriot

If you get a chance take a look at the novel "If Whispers Call" by Don Bassingthwaite, an old Alternity / Dark Matter novel, in which the characters are investigating the Bachelors Grove ghosts. Its actually quite interesting, as a lot of the material in the book seems to have a corresponding entry on the website you quoted.

  6. Re: Potential Campaign: Alpha Flight or Superhero Socialism

I think I would put the group under the auspices of the RCMP, CSIS is an intelligence agency, while the RCMP serves as the Federal police force (think state troopers and FBI combined) it also satisfies the requirement of a being a non military organization.

If you are looking for real-life information, the RCMP maintains a large training base in Regina a city of about 200,000 in the province of Saskatchewan, which could serve as the groups base.

Heres the link for the training base website

    http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/depot/index_e.htm

(The city itself will also be hosting not one but two Rolling Stones concerts in October, which of course has absolutely nothing to do with the thread, but we are all very excited about it.)

  7. Re: Sin City movie question

Not sure where this question goes' date=' but I will try here. I finally got around to watching Sin City this weekend (one of the better movies I have seen in a while, by the way). After watching I am still a little confused about the tie in of the very first part before the opening credits. Who were the 2 characters supposed to be. The one played by Josh Hartnett (?) and the woman he killed. I dont have much previous knowledge of Sin City before watching the movie. And it is perplexing me. So I was wondering if any of the more knowlegeable Sin City fandom could help out. :o[/quote']

The portion of the movie you are referring two was done as a short feature that Robert Rodreiguz (sp?) used as an example when he was trying to convince Frank Miller that he could do the movies "correctly".

He apparently shot these scenes and then met with Miller and used it to convince him to allow him to do the movie. According to some of the interviews it was also used to entice some of the other actiors to sign on.

The character Harnett plays is (I believe) from one of the other novels but has no direct importance in the 3 stories depicted in the movie itself.

  8. Re: Liefeld's Titans

I just picked up my overflowing file at Clockwork Comics and was slapped in the gob by the suckbomb called Tean Titans. Is anyone else upset by this mini-arc of blech?

Its funny you mention this, there was a huge thread on the DC Boards abou the "art" of the last issue. Liefeld (or someone pretending to be him) actually went on the boards to apologize to those who were upset and assure them it was only one more issue.

  9. Re: "Hudson City" like graphic novels

i believe that there are seven Sin City graphic novels' date=' but it might only be six[/quote']

You are absolutely correct. Unless I have missed one there have been seven novels.

    Sin City

Sin City: A Dame to Kill for

Sin City: Booze, Broads, & Bullets

    Sin City: Family Values

    Sin City: Hell and Back

    Sin City: That Yellow Bastard

Sin City: The Big Fat Kill

  10. Re: New Avengers?

I think most agree with you, Rik. Bendis could have put together a better team out of all the characters Marvel owns. Someone pointed out that he only likes to use certain characters for whatever reason.

    CES

You're absolutely right, Spider Woman and Luke Cage being used in the Alias series was perfect, but now Bendis has the "New" Avengers and he is stuffing the team full of his favourites. I am not a huge Wolvie fan or Spiderman for that matter but loved the way Bendis was writing Cage and Spidrwoman. I just wish they were back in Alias (and not the lame "Pulse" that the series turned into), and really do you need two spider people on one team?

  11. Re: I Need Opinions on published supplements.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. It looks as if The Ultimate MA and The Until Superpowers Database are the clear cut winners and Fantasy Hero a runner up, which works out well as I have a couple of players interested in keeping with a fantasy genre.

    Thanks, TWG

  12. Re: I Need Opinions on published supplements.

    Welcome to the boards. :)

    snip

The new Dark Champions is also very impressive, and it's not tied specifically to superheroics. You can use it to create anything from Navy SEALS to Indiana Jones.

Ah, Dark Champions, one of my absolute favourites from long ago. I think this one is going to be at the top of the list, just to see what changes have been made from the original. The idea of a more "realistic" genre is appealling for some of my players who "shudder" don't read comic books.....

  13. Re: I Need Opinions on published supplements.

    First, Welcome Back!

I would highly recommend picking up a copy of The Ultimate Martial Artist if you can find it. I think it is out of print, but there are still copies around. It will also eventually show up as a PDF for sale here in the Online Store, but I like printed books better, myself. It can be used with any genre where Martial Arts appears, which is basically any genre.

The Until Superpowers Database is a great resource if you have trouble building powers, or want something to give beginning players who want to build a character based on a certain Special Effect. It can also be invaluable for people with Variable Power Pools, since it gives tons of powers that someone with a VPP could "whip up" when they needed them.

Sidekick is also a great choice if you need to introduce new players to the system. It is not a different set of rules, or an abomination like Fusion , it is just a simpler subset of the rules, with some easier explanations, and not so much potentially mind-numbing detail.

(I don't find the full version mind-numbing, but for those who do feel that way, Sidekick is ready to help you.)

    KA.

Excellent, I was looking at picking up Sidekick for a couple of my new players and the UNTIL Database sounds ideal for my situation. I have 2 players new to HERO and two returning after a long time away.

    Thanks

  14. I have only recently returned to the HERO system after a lengthy hiatus (actually Fusion scared me and I ran away screaming). I have picked up FRED Champs, CU and CKC, and was wondering what the next supplements I purchase should be.

I'm not partial to any particular genre and really would just like to know what the individuals gathered here consider to be the best of the new books (new being 5th ED)

    Thanks

    TWG.
