  1. Re: Converting 4th Edition

Well' date=' Anaxphone, I'd like to give you all the details on these, but I'm uncomfortable with describing too much of Hero Games's IP here on their own public website. :( I'll give you what I feel I can, though:[/quote']

I'm not trying to get anyone (including myself) in trouble for violating copyrights or the like. Just trying to make a character without the latest version of the book on hand. With all of the character writeups being tossed around, I didn't realize that there was such a strict monitoring of things like telling the costs of Powers...

Combat Luck is essentially a Limited version of Armor, with the Special Effect of "just being grazed."

This sounds quite appropriate for my blaster. I suppose I shall have to look for a more detailed description somewhere or wait until the guy with the book comes back to town in a few months...

Stun-Only is normally assessed as a +0 Advantage/Limitation, because the benefits and drawbacks tend to balance out. Note that any Stun-Only attack does no Knockback.

But what if I wasn't trying to emulate the effects of an Ego Attack (no Body, no Knockback, no effect on inanimate objects), but instead something designed to stun and knock around a target without doing permanent damage? Reduced Penetration plus some form of "Reduced Knockback" would be a way to model it, I suppose.

    I hope that helps.

The answer about Cross-Linking was precisely what I was looking for. Thank you.

  2. Re: Converting 4th Edition

First off, thank you to everyone who has responded to help me out.

Actually' date=' if you have Sidekick that is really all you need. It contains all the character creation rules a beginner will need to get up and running.[/quote']

The two character concepts I'm kicking around currently both would be probably best modelled with a power or two that are listed in 4th, but not in Sidekick. (My brick would likely use Absorption or Damage Reduction versus a certain damage type and the blaster is a candidate for minor Summon powers.)

And then there are things I've seen mentioned on here like Combat Luck, which is in neither. I would simply try to reverse-engineer the costs from the Random Hero Generator, but it's out of commision for the moment.

Also, what would be the Limitation modifier for a pair of Linked powers that always had to be used together be? That is not A+b or A, but always A+b.

How about (and I'm sure someone has used this one before) Stun damage only?

  3. I'm trying to make a character for possible play under fifth edition rules, but don't want to pay $50 until I'm sure I will play the game enough to justify the purchase to both myself and my wife. I have found a copy of fourth edition as well as Sidekick to use. I'm sure that somewhere somebody has a handy conversion guide for 4->5, but I haven't found it yet. Could anyone give me a hand?

    Anaxphone, TIA

  4. Re: Non-"adventuring" Metahumans

It's a good series. I was especially impressed by the writing in the issue where one of the students "borrows" the daughter of the first metahuman hero in their universe from the past to get information for a school report. It touches upon some very good points.

Oh, and they have a supervillian-to-be who's had a chip implanted that replaces any attempt to curse with other, non-offensive words. When he really lets loose, it tends to be transformed into showtunes.

Anaxphone, and it's PS 238, BTW

  5. Re: Newbie Seeks Character Creation Help

    Some notes:

Animal Forms: I checked the Bestiary, you won't need more than 200 points for any of the forms. A deer is a whopping 42 point creature! I doubt you'll need more than 115 points (for a Diminutive Mammal form, like a Gray Squirrel).

I just have to ask- why would a grey squirrel cost nearly triple the amount of a deer?

Anaxphone, do Champions squirrels come with Death Rays standard issue?

  6. Re: Newbie Seeks Character Creation Help

That's why I went with 200 point creatures. That allows for a stag (42 points) with another 158 points worth of special abilities.

I'm not sure if a Wyrm can be done for 200 points though. It'll be all flash, no bang.

I'm pretty sure my wife could live with that. It wouldn't have wings, so no flight and if she needed a combat form, it would be the stag or boar. Perhaps it's just the most impressive form (wow the locals and all that)? I think I've seen references to a "Presence Attack" for that sort of thing.

Anaxphone, "I'm a mighty dragon, Rarwr!"

  7. Re: Newbie Seeks Character Creation Help

Each of these powers can only be used one at a time (which makes sense - first she whips up a storm' date=' then she calls down lightening, and she does neither while in animal form). As noted, the total package costs 49 points.[/quote']

Wow, that's a very efficient-looking package. My wife thanks you. I just wanted to make sure that i understtod how it worked, so that my wife wasn't rudely surprised to discover that she couldn't pull off some stunt that she believed she could.

Here are the forms she had in mind, if someone is feeling kind enough to reference the Bestiary for us (as we don't own that tome either):

Stag, Mare, Cow, Hound, Boar, Seal, Raven, and Wyrm (Dragon).

The ninth (3*3 for the important threes like any good celt) form would, of course, be her human one.

  8. Re: Newbie Seeks Character Creation Help

Now forgive me if this is a naive question, but we really are new to Champions and do not own the rulebook. Does buying it as a multipower make it so she could only do one of those at a time? Control the weather or shapeshift, but not both at the same time since points are currently dedicated to power A and cannot fuel power B at the same time?

And would the point cost for the package above be 65 points?

Anaxphone, thanks for the prompt responses

  9. Greetings, all. My wife and I have been gaming for a long while, but this upcoming Saturday will be our first time with Champions. Another of the players has offered to help us write up our characters, and he has mine done. (I might post it to see if anyone has suggestions of tweaks after I get a chance to play with it once...) He was having difficulty with my wife's character, whose concept is something of a hard-drinkin', hard-livin' druidess. As far as powers go, she wanted to be able to change into appropriate sidhe beasts (larger, white-with-red-markings versions of the beasts of the celtic isles- stag, mare, boar, that sort of thing) and have some weather control (at least enough to make it rain or shine- as she puts it "chucking lightning bolts would be fun, but not required"). The characters were 250 point with an option for another fifty if you'd been active for a while (but I think the Gm would tack on equal disads to level it out?) Could anyone help us out, we would be highly appreciative.

    Anaxphone, TIA
