  1. Re: Hero like Box (obscure Alpha Flight hero)?

    What would you use the OIF for? Make no mistake if you become the robot then the robot is not a focus because there is nothing for your opponent to take away from you.
    Box operator doesn't actually become the box. He just has a doorless entry method. Also, anyone can use the box if it's empty. Also, if someone steals the body while the Hero is sleeping, he's SOL.

    I don't recommend Multiform unless you have more than one robot body or your human form has skills and powers that your robot form doesn't have.
    Why not? In this case that's likely since Bochs' manual dexterity was probably much better out of armor, but what's your reasoning here about more than one robot body and skills and power loss?

    Also, automaton advantages are inappropriate when you are not an automaton.
    So the rules say, but they're appropriate to an extent. They'd be even more appropriate if making the early Box, which was piloted by remote control. Either way the build I made last night doesn't use any automaton-specific stuff.

    And that you occasionally have to get out of your robot isn't a disadvantage at all.
    Sure it is. Hero must break on average 8 hours a day for sleep, and for 3 meals, and for numerous bathroom breaks.

    if however he does need to do all that, then just use a Disadvantage: 10 point Dependance "needs to leave robot body to eat, sleep, and go poo every 6 hours" (very easy to obtain, character's powers are affected 14- Activation roll, incompetence - 1 to skill rolls per time increment, and weakness -3 to charateristics per time increment) total of worth of disadvantages

    with this, the cahracter is so distracted by needing to attend to one of mother nature's many types of calls that he can't concentrate properly, this causes him to accidentilly use a wrong power (or lose focus during the use of one), hurry though any technical assignment, and not use his body to it's greatest effect

    Which forces the question, should we have "call of nature" rules in Hero? :D

    The Multiform rules have me stumped. What's the tradeoff of being able to spend 80 points to get a 450 point form?

  2. Re: Hero like Box (obscure Alpha Flight hero)?

    Multiform is looking more and more like what I'll use, with an OIF. Thing I'm wondering about is damage carrying over, how much of an advantage would it be to except our Box from this, keeping in mind that the robot body will retain damage even if the hero phases out and back in (and that maybe some damage, especially mental stress and general fatigue, should carry over)?

    Also, how would I build the fact that the robot body has no self-healing abilities and must be repaired? I think the rest I'll take from the automaton rules.

  3. Re: Hero like Box (obscure Alpha Flight hero)?

    OK, seriously this is way too easy. You get a lot of stuff with either focus or Only In Hero ID and reduce the frequency with which being legless handicaps you.

    Ah, okay, duh. Handn't considered the frequency part. Guess I should've cracked the book first? :P I was trying to figure out how to have the Phys. Lim. only affect him out of hero ID...

    Hmm, not bad on the limbs suggestion Bloodstone. :D

  4. Okay, so I'm really lazy, and I might start leaning on this forum like a crutch. Sue me. :)

    How about a guy who's a double amputee, otherwise normal human confined to a wheelchair, but he builds himself a robot body that he can enter and fight crime with?

    Also, how would the HS handle the distinction between a hero like this who entered the robot "normally" (like Titanium Man) and someone like Box, who "phased" into his robot? Is the distinction important? I suppose not but maybe someone has something on that.

  5. Re: Marvel's Rogue

    Sorry if this has been suggested, but I read a few replies and thought that one good way to offset Rogues great power is to recreate her reasons for not liking to use it.

    Maybe run the risk of keeping disadvantages permanently, especially psych lims. Also, keep in mind she runs the risk of "berserk," that is the absorbed persona could take over. This could be simulated in degrees, with stronger, more alien or evil personas causing a drop in her effectiveness.

    Maybe a permanent tally of all absorptions, sort of like a sanity score in CoC, and once she reaches a certain point she's permanently cuckoo.

    The truth is Rogue didn't use her power casually, at least not when I was reading X-Men, not by a long shot. She only used them when necessary.

    That said, she was overpowered.

  6. In Hero 4th, linked is a -1/2 lim. What if you want to create not just a power that can't be used without another power, but two powers that must be used together?

    I'm making a character with desolid and invisibility, but who can only use them together.

    Also, wondering how "swimming" through the ground works - should I just buy swimming and link it too?

  7. Re: How to create power: flight via temporary energy platform

    Wow, lots of replies!

    I guess I need to upgrade, 4th edition (hero system) doesn't even have Physical Manifestation if memory serves.

    I like some of the ideas, but it seems that what's really needed (for force constructs) is either a new power, or a specific framework to make VPPs work right for the force construct application.

    Just my two cents.

  8. Re: HTML Hero

    Okay, now I remember. To save a character you have to click preview in HTML Hero, view the source of the preview page, and save it as an HTML file. To load a character you view the saved HTML file's source, click on load in HTML Hero, and paste the source into the form box.

  9. 1) any GMs ever engage in Char. Point loans? I was just thinking about Packages and how they can reflect instant decisions involving character points. Say a PC is invited to join the brotherhood of assassins, a position that involves neat new toys, but he has no XP to pay for the package. I was thinking a CP loan might be the way to handle this, the PC gets the package for "free" but has to pay it back with XP before anything else.

    2) My reading of the rules is that for Multipower Slots, the power and the advantages are the only considerations when calculating maximum AP, which at a glance seems to make this an illegal character (the mind control power, for example), yes?

  10. Re: Free Character Tools?

    Ghost Archer: that's what I tried first, not with FP but with some freebie HTML WYSIWYG editor. I didn't have good results so I gave up on that (couldn't change the format in ways I needed to, e.g., the indented lines for multipower slots).

  11. Re: a Villian game

    For my two cents, I like the middle of the road sort of take on the villainous campaign: profit-oriented (not necessarily talking money here), not evil, sociopathic, not psychopathic. :) The sort of villains who are far from above a good deed now and then.

    I'm thinking less "villain" and more "criminal," if that makes sense.

    As for villain groups and cohesion, let's remember the real world, where organized crime is hardly a fairy tale.

    I guess what I'm describing is more of a "neutral" campaign than anything else; the PCs are crooks but they can be good or bad. This is in a way a response to the ridiculous concept of "superheroic goodness" forwarded by comic books and exemplified in the Spiderman movies, a concept so rigid that Spidey can't even make an extra buck appearing on talk shows or bending iron bars at the local fair.

    I mean really, who in his right mind would put up with that? I wouldn't. I'd take care of me and mine first, and everyone else second, just like every other sane person on Earth. Sure, I'd help people when I could, I just wouldn't settle for eating out of a can.

    edit: also, I'm surprised no one mentioned the Thunderbolts angle; heroes by day who moonlight as villains to pay the bills.

  12. Re: Hello and question about powers and such

    Okay, after reading the rules more closely (especially foci and charges) I realized that Jhamin and rjcurrie are right. So, I tried again:

    ~~~~
    * "Formula" 2 continuous charges, last 24 hours each (+0), uncontrolled (+1/2); Independent (-2)
    +1 SPD (10 AP) *
    Regeneration: 1 BODY/turn (10 AP) *
    Elemental Control: 15 AP *
    +30 STR (30 AP) *
    +10 DEX (30 AP) *
    +15 CON (30 AP) *
    +15 BODY (30 AP) *
    ~~~~

    Does that work? My guess is that Linked doesn't apply even though they are all linked.

    Thanks for the thread Haerandir, thanks for the idea Enamel, thanks for the suggestions Super Squirrel (funny that you mentioned two of the HS supplements I'm most interested in).
