  1. Re: Q on sample characters in "Pulp Hero" Aaaaah, it all becomes clear. Thank you! I was looking at the intro to the skills chapter, not the last section. Cheers, Viperion
  2. Howdy, In Pulp hero there are a couple of characters with weird skill groups; I am referring to Dr Emil Locke (p397) and Dr Jennings Petrie (p401). They both have some skills listed so: 3 Traveler 1 1) AK: Africa 11- 1 2) AK: China 11- 1 3) AK: Europe 11- 1 4) AK: India 11- .. .. .. 1 18) CuK: South/Central American Indians Culture 11- (Dr Petrie has similar, except it's named Scientist, has a base cost of 3, and costs 2 per "slot" which gives him a 13- roll) This looks, to me, like it's an Elemental Control, except: a) it's not identfied as such it has skills not powers in it c) the slots have less base points than the base cost How does this structure work? I am trying to make a Professor-type and a break on the huge number of KS and SS's I need would be great... Cheers, Viperion
  3. Hi Folks, In the Champions book, Defender has an array of powers which are OIF (his suit) and an END reserve, also OIF. What I can't find is where it's said which powers use the END reserve and which ones (if any) use his own END. You could extrapolate and say all of the OIF powers use the OIF END reserve, but that's not actually stated anywhere, is it? I guess what I'm asking is, when you're building a character with an external END reserve, how do you indicate which powers use that reserve and which ones use the character's own END? Cheers, Viperion
  4. So, where can I find a write up of this guy? (Anyone who doesn't know who Lamont Cranston is needs to find out. Now. ) I assumed there would be one somewhere on these boards, but my search fu is weak and I cannae find it. Someone help a noob? Viperion
  5. Folks, I'm trying to convert a Silver Age Sentinels character I had into HERO just to see how it all works out, and I'm having a bit of a problem with this: His main item is a suit of powered armour which has the following abilities: Flight (with a limitation that you can't use the flight again until a period has passed equal to it's use - fly for 5 minutes, charge for 5 minutes) Increased Str Infrared Vision Armour I thought it would be best to use a Multipower to represent the suit, since one Drain should be able to power down the whole thing, but it doesn't work properly, because of the way assigning points in a Multipower works - putting points into the Flight doesn't automatically reduce the Strength boost, etc etc. Should it be a Multipower where all the powers are "ultra" type slots? An Elemental Control (although that feels conceptually wrong)? A VPP is definately out, as the powers can't be "re-tooled" into whatever the character wants, they are fixed. Can someone have a go at building this - points don't matter too much, I just want to see how you do it, but here's some suggested values: Flight 12" (with the automatic down-time thing; how do you do that?) Armour 15PD/15ED, Hardened Str +40 Extra Sense, IR, Bought as Sight Group All in an OIF, 0 END (or with a battery pack??) Thanks all, Viperion
  6. Re: Got some buildin' exercises for ya... D'oh! Yeah, I figure another 100 points should be plenty Cheers, Viperion
  7. Re: Got some buildin' exercises for ya... Cheers, these are almost exactly what I'm looking for! Couple of questions: 1) Bishop has an Armour power in an EC linked to an Absorption power in the same EC. Is this legal? (Barring GC approval, yadda yadda yadda.) Pg 314, Linked Powers in a Slot would suggest not.. 2) No Mystique 3) Rogue doesn't fly and has strength 6(!), but it seems to be a nice way to model her absorption/transfer schtick 4) The first Cyclops seems a little off, but the second one is closer. Would other GC's allow a "not vs Ruby Quartz" as a Limitation for his EC to actually be worth anything? Is Ruby Quartz that common? 5) Professor X looks pretty good - I'd be tempted to have a VPP and not a MP for his powers, but being new it's definitely easier to have a MP! 6) I like the write-up for Gambit, but I think his Dex is way too low (pet peeve, Gambit's my favourite X-Man ) Will have a look at the others, as well Thanks, all! Viperion
  8. Re: Got some buildin' exercises for ya... Thanks for the fast replies! The link posted is mostly/kinda helpful, I actually have most of those builds already (from years ago!), but there is no Mystique, the smallest build for Rogue is at 491 points(), and as you said they are 4th ed - which I have never read, so I'm not sure what the differences are I don't really need anything super-accurate, just an idea of how best to build Rogue-like characters, etc etc, within a points limit that a new GM would be comfortable in running with as a first game (as tempting as a 1,041 point Professor X would be...) Cheers, Viperion
  9. Hi Folks, first post: I have nearly made my way through the vastness that is the Hero 5th Edition, revised, and after reading through the powers sections I think I have a handle on what's going on. However, I'd like to pose a character building challenge to y'all, and it goes a little something like this: I have superhero RPG's. I own Silver Age Sentinels, Mutants and Masterminds, and a couple of others. I have always had problems statting up certain Marvel Characters in these systems, and would like to see your thoughts on how these characters would be statted up in Champions: Mystique Rogue Professor Xavier Bishop Gambit Cyclops (Cyclops? Yes, Cyclops. My particular trouble with him is that he's such a one-shot pony I have trouble filling out his points ) Please build these guys for me (or point out where I can find 'em if you've done it before) on 350 (200 points +150 disadvantages) points, or for bonus effort, just let your imagination go and build the character then total up the points afterwards - this is for my Cyclops problem. I have a theory that given no points limitations, Cyclops - as depicted in most comics - works out to be built on much less points than someone like Rogue. Cheers and thanks for having me, Viperion
