  1. Re: What do these numbers mean? Oh, thanks
  2. In Hero System: Sidekick, I was looking at Charges, and it says on the table that if you have 9-12 charges, it is -1/4. What does -1/4 mean? Is it 25% cheaper, or is it something else? Thanks.
  3. Re: Martial Maneuvers Ah, thanks so much
  4. In the Hero System: Sidekick book I have, it says, "[Martial maneuvers] are similar to various Standard Combat Maneuvers described above, but provide modifiers to OCV, DCV, damage done, or the like" (96). My question is, where do I go to find those modifiers for the martial maneuvers such as Martial Block, M. Strike, Offensive Strike, M. Disarm, and Defensive Strike, etc.? Thanks
  5. Re: Hero System: Sidekick Ah, ok, thanks ^^
  6. Re: Hero System: Sidekick Oh, also, should I download and print one of those hex maps from the Free Stuff section?
  7. Re: Hero System: Sidekick Thanks for the two links, Spence - I've saved them for when we start to play, I can review them with my players so they know the premise ^^ I've also saved a copy of the Ultimate Index for future use--thanks! I am going to the Chicago Wizard Con this year, so I'll be on the lookout for any Champions players, and I live by a con (which I cannot attend this year) and I'll also look there in later years Thanks everyone for the really nice responses and great advice - this definitely has to be the friendliest forum community I've ever been to.
  8. Some New Questions Well I'm just about done with the Sidekick rulebook, and I have two (hopefully) last questions for you all: 1) When you guys first started playing, how did you remember all the rules? Is their a quick-reference sheet I can download somewhere, or should I just begin memorizing stuff as we play some sessions? 2) Generally, when playing a session, do players 'roleplay' with each other by talking in the place of their heroes, or is it mainly combat oriented? My players aren't very experienced with roleplaying (though I am somewhat, from City of Heroes), and is there any sample scenarios or general ideas for scenarios that would help them get used to the idea of roleplaying as realistic characters? Thanks a lot guys, I hope I'm not too much of a bother
  9. Re: Hero System: Sidekick Thanks for all the really generous help you guys! I'm about halfway through reading the rulebook, and it seems like a really awesome game and I'm finally getting the hang of this RPG business Thanks!
  10. Re: Hero System: Sidekick Okay, thanks for the info--I'll tell my friends that and decide if we want to buy the extra books then
  11. Re: Hero System: Sidekick Thanks for the info, guys I still have one basic question: When I get the books Spence mentioned, do I make my own scenarios using information from those books? So I would maybe see Villain Group A and Location B, using one of the setting books Von-DMan mentioned and the Conquerors, Killers, and Crooks book, and then I would write up a mission that the players would go on incorporating A and B? I once played a tiny, tiny bit of a Dungeons and Dragons Starter Kit, and the book gave a specific quest to find some unicorn or something, and we didn't have to make our own.
  12. Re: Hero System: Sidekick We don't really have any experience at all, and we're all pretty set on the superhero genre. I'm gonna' be the game master
  13. I got the Hero System: Sidekick PDF downloaded onto my computer because me and a couple friends want to start our first RPG group, and we though Champions would be really fun. However, I was confused when I got the Sidekick book. Looking at it, I'm guessing that this is a (simplified) rulebook, and there is another book I need to buy to get like scenarios or whatever? This is my first time trying a tabletop RPG, so I'm pretty confused. Can anyone help me figure out 1) if I need to buy anything besides the Hero System: Sidekick book, and 2) if so, what is easiest/most fun to get with it? Oh, and also are there any materials I will need to get? I read that Champions uses the 'Hex/1-inch' blocks for movement, but can I get a map that has those hexes already printed on there? Thanks a lot for your help, (and I hope this is in the right forum )
