  1. Re: Normal/non-super/average people Thanks again for the replies. Now, I think I'm convinced to at least give HERO a "once over." My next question is this - is there a feee or low-cost sampling or trial to the rules that will allow me not only to understand how the system works but also allow me to see low power levels in action? brionl mentioned Sidekick upthread as being the "starter version of the Hero rules" Is that something I should look into? As always, thanks for all your assistance!
  2. Re: Normal/non-super/average people Thanks for all the replies everyone! I want to do a game that's somewhere between The Phantom and Batman in power. I remember hearing a few years back that one of the "problems" with HERO/Champions was that a normal person could fall from a 5-story building and not only live, but be fine. For some reason, I've always remembered that and now that I'm considering HERO I wanted to get the consensus from the people who know the game best - the current players (you guys ). I don't know for certain which end of the spectrum the game will end up being (The Phantom end or the Batman end) but I want to know what I was getting myself into before I went forward. Thanks again fellas!
  3. Greetings everyone! I'll start off with my profuse apologies for asking a question that's probably been asked a thousand times. I tried searching but my query was not answered as good as I had hoped it to be. I've heard, time and again, that HERO/Champions doesn't do average people or low-powered supers (batman-type) very well. I've heard that the difference between GURPS and HERO are exactly opposite - GURPS does low-powered games very well, but doesn't handle high-powered games very well, and vice-versa for HERO/Champions. Is there any basis for these statements? I've heard this for quite some time. I'm preparing for a low-powered supers game and though I picked up GURPS first, I feel that the apparent complexity of GURPS may be a little too much for my players to handle (or want to handle). But if HERO cannot do low powered and normals very well then it may not be the answer for my superhero gaming needs - I may end up having to wait until TLG releases their superhero take, "Victorious." Thanks in advance for any assistance I can get in this regard.
