Head-to-Head Move Throughs?

Dr. Anomaly

Question

Steve,

If two characters are charging right at each other, head on, how do you resolve the results? I'd think you'd handle it like a Move Through, but since there is no such thing as "simultaneous" attacks, this would mean that one of the people would get to make the Move Through attack and the other would get...clobbered, even though running headlong into a target that's moving toward you should do more damage than you'd do to yourself by doing a Move Through on a stationary target.

Assuming simultaneous Move-Throughs, how would you handle Knockback? I'd think that your Movement would tend to counteract some of the Knockback you'd receive from the other guy hitting you head-on, but at what ratio?

Etc. etc...

Resolve it as if each had simultaneously performed a Move Through on the other. Since they want to hit each other, you can probably dispense with the Attack Roll altogether and simply assume they collide as planned, but if you want them to make Attack Rolls, each character’s CV modifiers are based on his own velocity alone. However, the damage each of them take is based on their combined velocity — in other words, each character does his own STR damage + ((his velocity plus target’s velocity)/3)d6 of damage to the other character, and takes half that much damage, with his own Move Through. Each character takes the half/full damage from his own Move Through, plus the full damage caused by his opponent’s Move Through, separately — he applies defenses to each of them individually, and they don’t add together for purposes of determining whether he’s Stunned or the like.

Example: Ramrod has STR 40 and Running 30”. Tank has STR 60 and Running 15”. They deliberately run into each other at full speed to determine who’s tougher. Ramrod does 23d6 damage ((STR/5=8) + ((30 + 15)/3=15) to Tank, and takes half that himself (or all of that, if Tank takes no Knockback). Tank does 27d6 damage ((STR/5=12) + ((30 + 15)/3=15) to Ramrod, and takes half that himself (or all of that, if Ramrod takes no Knockback).
