Cost of Duplication

stan da ork

Question

OK, I'm pretty sure this is just an oversight, but I want to get some official clarification. In FREd, the cost of Duplication is listed as 1 CP for every 5 CP of the original character. However, in all the examples, and in several examples in the Rules FAQ, the cost is calculated as 1 CP for every 5 CP in the duplicate. So which is correct? Is the cost of Duplication based on the original character or the duplicates? I'm pretty sure it's the second one, but I wanted to check, since nowhere in the FAQ or the FREd errata does it say that the cost listed in FREd is incorrect.

Re: Cost of Duplication

There's no oversight. The description in the rulebook assumes the default -- that a character is creating an exact Duplicate of himself. Threepeat and Binary Man are both examples of this. If he's not doing that for some reason (such as Mechanon's head), then obviously it's the points in the Duplicate which matter for purposes of determining the cost of Duplication.
