Area of Effect

Dr. Anomaly

Question

Steve, there seems to be a bit of a debate going on just now.

Area of Effect (Radius) says it's spherical, that it reaches "up" and "down" as well as in the four cardinal directions.

The next paragraph says you double the radius of the AoE for +1/4 advantage.

We have someone claiming steadfastly that though the "basic" AoE (Radius) is a sphere, when you purchase increased radius, the radius only expands in 2 dimensions, and not three...because the line that gives the cost for expanding the radius doesn't still define the AoE as being spherical.

So:

When you purchase increased radius for Area of Effect (Radius) for +1/4 Advantage, does it expand in all 3 dimensions? That is, does it remain spherical even if you purchase increased radius for it?

(It would help to have the word from "on high", as it were.) :)

Thanks! ;)

Re: Area of Effect

If a character expands the size of an Area Of Effect, the expansion takes place in all dimensions the AoE effects that can vary based on how the Area is defined by the rules, and/or any special rules for expansion listed under that form of the Advantage. For example, an Area Of Effect (Radius) expands in all three dimensions — it maintains its shape as a sphere — because the rules for Radius define it in all three dimensions by the variable of Active Points divided by 10. On the other hand, an Area Of Effect (Line) only doubles in length, width, or height (pick one) because that’s how the rules define that form of expansion as working.
