Penalty for using ranged weapon while in melee?

I apologize if this is somewhere in the book or FAQ, but is there any sort of penalty or negative effect for using a ranged weapon (e.g., bow, pistol, throwing star, etc.) while engaged in melee?

No, there’s no such penalty. The GM could certainly impose one if he wanted, but since HTH Combat range covers a fairly broad distance (as far as about 13 feet, depending on the relative position of the attacking character and his target in an adjacent hex), there’s no reason why a Ranged weapon couldn’t be useful in a HTH Combat situation.
