Clairvoyance with "Object of Opportunity" Focus

vanAdamme

Question

A character has the following power:

Clairsentience (Sight Group), x4 Range (740"), Mobile Perception Point (can move up to 6" per Phase), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (52 Active Points); Does Not Move Under Own Power (-1/2), Blackout (-1/2), One Sense Only (-1/4), IIF (Focus - Object of Opportunity; -1/4)

1. As Clairsentience is automatically invisible, does that mean the Focus _has_ to be Inobvious?

2. Are there (or how would you rule) limitations on the type or size of object the Clairsentience can be attached to? For example, could a character attach his Perception Point to the front bumper of a car to see where it drives?

3. If the character attaches his Perception Point to an object which then moves out of sight, does the Clairsentience still stay on as long the object stays within the 740" range?

Cheers,

Re: Clairvoyance with "Object of Opportunity" Focus

1. Clairsentience is not, per se, “invisible.” As indicated in the Rules FAQ, the perception point cannot be perceived. However, Clairsentience is a power that costs END, and therefore must have a perceivable special effect. Typically this is something along the lines of the person using the Clairsentience going into a trance (or otherwise obviously using Clairsentience), not a big bright glow or the like, but there’s got to be some indication of Clairsentience being in use. If Clairsentience is bought through a Focus, making the Focus Obvious would certainly satisfy some if not all of the requirements for perceivability.

However, just to be clear — Clairsentience bought with a Focus doesn’t mean the perception point centers on the Focus. It means the character using Clairsentience possesses the Focus. If a character wanted the Focus to be the location of the perception point, then either the Focus has to be Inobvious or the perception point is automatically perceivable.

2. You can’t just define a Focus as “any object of opportunity.” You have to specify the type of object, such as “any sharp/pointed object of opportunity” or “any piece of furniture of opportunity.” That should resolve any questions about what objects can be used for this type of power.

3. For purposes of Clairsentience with a Mobile Perception Point, where it’s contemplated that the perception point can only be moved by other people not by the character himself, the character’s ability to perceive the perception point only matters when he establishes that perception point by activating the power. Thereafter all that matters is that the perception point remain within range of his Clairsentience; whether he can see it with his own eyes is irrelevant.
