  1. A character has the ability to shapeshift into any human form, but due to the physically rearrangement of her muscles and bones she takes 3D6 STUN damage whenever she changes shape, but does not continually take the damage while using the power. Would this be a side effect with the "occurs automatically whenever power is used" limitiation? Cheers, Adam
  2. Hey all, I am a little confused about the use of a Presence Attack to act before your target. The rules (p. 428) say that if you make your basic Presence Attack you can act before your target this phase. Aren't you already acting first? If you are both acting in phase 4 and you have a higher DEX, what is the point of making a Presence Attack to act first when you already are? Obviously I'm missing something here, just not too sure what... Cheers, vanAdamme
  3. Re: More object based clairvoyance stuff... That limitation means the character actually creates something though, doesn't it? I'm talking about being able to point to a car and say "I now see what the car sees" or point to a guy's hat and say "I now see what his hat sees."
  4. Hi guys, I've taken people's suggestions and put this power together: Clairsentience (Sight Group), x4 Range (740"), Mobile Perception Point (can move up to 6" per Phase), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (52 Active Points); Does Not Move Under Own Power (-1/2), Blackout (-1/2), One Sense Only (-1/4), IIF (Focus - Object of Opportunity; -1/4) The idea behind it is that the character can (for example) select the front bumper of a car and then see where a car drives, or select somebody's hat and see where they walk to. Steve Long pointed out that with the Focus - OoO limitation you have to define a particular type of object that would work. How would you go about increasing this particular set? It sounds like this is becoming less of a limitation and more of an advantage really. Cheers, vanAdamme
  5. A character has the following power: Clairsentience (Sight Group), x4 Range (740"), Mobile Perception Point (can move up to 6" per Phase), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (52 Active Points); Does Not Move Under Own Power (-1/2), Blackout (-1/2), One Sense Only (-1/4), IIF (Focus - Object of Opportunity; -1/4) 1. As Clairsentience is automatically invisible, does that mean the Focus _has_ to be Inobvious? 2. Are there (or how would you rule) limitations on the type or size of object the Clairsentience can be attached to? For example, could a character attach his Perception Point to the front bumper of a car to see where it drives? 3. If the character attaches his Perception Point to an object which then moves out of sight, does the Clairsentience still stay on as long the object stays within the 740" range? Cheers, vanAdamme
  6. Re: Clairvoyance attached to an object Cool idea, thanks. This would have to built as a separate power to normal Clairvoyance then, wouldn't it? Otherwise he would _only_ be able to attach his power to an object when he used it. Also, the Mobile Perception Point only allows 6" of movement (unless you spend more points). If he attached his power to a rock and threw it in the back of a car it would probably be moving too fast, wouldn't it? I'd be inclined to rule that once the object it's attached to moves faster than the speed they've purchased the power cuts out. What do you think?
  7. Re: Normal Characterist Maxima and Characteristic Powers Wow, awesome responses guys. I have now declared in my infinite (and stolen) wisdom that his extra STR will be built straight off normal characteristics, unless he wants it to have limitations in which case it'll still cost more to go over 20. Here's a question though that may come up. Original form has STR 14. Secondary form has STR 14 and buys the power "Characteristic STR +6" for 6 CP. No problem. However later in the campaign he spends CP and puts his power up to "STR +7". I assume that would cost him 2 CP instead of 1 because it's now taking his total STR to 21? Also, what if instead he put his base STR up to 15 and left his power at "STR +6"? Does he pay double for the extra point in STR or would you go and change his power making it cost an extra CP? Yours in confusion, vanAdamme
  8. Hey there, I'm running a heroic game with the Normal Characteristic Maxima option turned on and a character who is based on Jekyll and Hyde (using Multiform). This character's base STR is 14, but when he turns into his alter ego he wants his STR to increase but without any bulging of the muscles. He just wants to have his current strength concentrated a great deal. To this end he has decided to have the same physical characteristics for both forms but give his alter ego the power "Characteristic +10 STR." According to the rules (5th ED. Rev - p140), "Characteristics purchased as Powers are not affected by Normal Characteristic Maxima doubling requirements". This seems like a bit of an easy way around it to me. I'm not sure if I should allow it as it is within the rules, or make him purchase 24 STR in his alter ego form and pay the doubled points. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers, vanAdamme
  9. Hi there, A player has asked if they can have a form of clairvoyance which can be attached to an object. That way their perception point would be based on wherever the object was at the time and it could be used as a tracking device. I thought of just using the Focus limitation but it doesn't to seem to fit in this case. Any thoughts? Cheers, vanAdamme
  10. Hey guys, just had a quick newbie-style question about mental defense and mental damage reduction. A good-guy character has 10 points of Mental Defense, 25% Mental Damage Reduction and 12 EGO. A bad-guy mind-controller beats his DECV and makes his Effect Roll, getting a 30. The good-guy then applies the Mental Defense first, reducing the 30 to a 20, then applies the Mental Damage Reduction reducing the 20 to a 15. This 15 is bigger than his EGO of 12, so something bad happens. Is that correct? Cheers, vanAdamme
  11. Re: Using N-ray vision to read a book on a shelf Thanks for all the great replies! Bear in mind though that as I said to Thia the book idea was just an example. Ultimately he would be able to look around a room as if from any angle. So if he was sitting at a desk he'd be able to look under the desk as if he were lying on the floor. Almost like he had a pair of invisible eyes which could fly around seeing for him.
  12. Re: Using N-ray vision to read a book on a shelf Thanks again, Thia. I will take all of this into consideration. I was already considering making the vision stuff cost END to use, that way he would actually be blind for most of the time (and could take it as a disadvantage, although a lesser one than standard blindness) and only really use it in emergencies. Cheers, vanAdamme
  13. Re: Using N-ray vision to read a book on a shelf Awesome response, thank you! The book thing was more of an example of he wants to be able to do. I think he'd also like to be able to look into drawers and under tables and stuff like that. Could that be written as up a weird version of stretching perhaps? Have it range limited, applied only to sight, doesn't cross intervening space...
  14. Hey guys, I am a newcomer to the Hero System and am planning on starting a 1920's Chicago-style low-level hero campaign. I have two players whose characters are down on their luck detectives. One of my players wants to be blind, but with the ability to clairvoyantly see in a 360 degree range, with x-ray vision giving him the ability to read books on shelves without moving. Firstly, I assume that all of this means he cannot get any points back from taking 'blind' as a disadvantage. Secondly, how would the sight power work? I've taken: Increased Arc of Perception (360) with Sight Group - 10 points N-Ray Perception (Sight Group) - 10 points I'm assuming though that this means he can see all around him, but only in straight lines like normal sight, so he could only read the pages of a book that were facing him. Any advice would be great! Cheers, vanAdamme
