Balanced/aerodynamic

Paragon

Question

The table for throwing objects (regarding the penalties for their degree of balance or aerodynamic properties) seems a bit confusing in the light of dedicated throwing weapons; read literally the example would seem to suggest that all throwing axes (because of the tomahawk example) have a penalty while all spears (because of the spear example) don't.

I'm thinking this text is probably a carry over from earlier editions and is really about weapons not normally used for throwing and has no bearing on weapons actually designated as throwable. Is that the case, or is there a hidden penalty on some weapons designed for throwing and not others?

Re: Balanced/aerodynamic

The examples in question are offered up as just that — examples — and I think they’re reasonable and accurate ones as examples. While none of the throwing weapons in the books are built with inherent aerodynamicity or balance penalties as Side Effects or the like, the GM’s well within his rights if he wants to apply a penalty based on the Thrown Objects Table. He’s also well within his rights to ignore that table if he doesn’t feel like using it. And of course, in either case we tend to be talking about equipment that characters obtain for free; if a character spends Character Points on something, generally speaking he shouldn’t suffer any inherent, ongoing penalties he doesn’t receive a Limitation for (even if it’s only a -0 Limitation).
