Ninja Gaiden

Ok, so I'm curious what folks would do to build the characters from Ninja Gaiden.

This would be the characters from the X-Box games and not the old NES ones.

Here is the cast of characters you got to work with and some background info (Keep in mind that there are some spoilers below on the story):

Ryu Hayabusa

NGS_Ryu.jpg

Ryu Hayabusa is left in charge as the 20-year-old guardian of the Dragon Sword while his father, Joe Hayabusa, leaves to train in the mountains. The Hayabusas are of the Dragon Lineage, and as such are susceptible to the power and blood curse of the Fiends.

While visiting his uncle, Murai, the Hayabusa village is attacked. Ryu rushes back only to find the village in flames and everyone slaughtered, including his childhood friend Kureha. He tries to defeat the dark samurai Doku, who has taken the Dark Dragon Blade from its resting place, but is cut down and killed. He is resurrected by the Hayabusa's spiritual animal, a falcon, and spends time recuperating and preparing for his vengeance.

Ryu invades the Holy Vigoor Empire, seeking to kill Doku and recover the Blade. He sets himself against the Fiends, and foils the plans of Doku by rescuing Rachel and freeing her sister Alma from the cursed existence of a Fiend. He fulfills his quest by destroying Doku's spirit, slaying the Holy Vigoor Emperor and recovering the Dark Dragon. His task completed, he shatters the evil blade after overcoming his corrupt uncle (who takes it in his own quest for power), and returns to the Hayabusa village.

Ninja Gaiden II: The current leader and protector of the Dragon Sword and the Hayabusa village. He was the sole ninja responsible for the destruction of the Vigoor Empire and all of its leaders, including Doku and Murai.

Supporting Characters

NGB_Supporting_Cast.jpg

Rachel is a scantily clad Fiend Hunter in the Vigoor Empire. She searches for her sister Alma, who was turned into a Greater Fiend by Doku. Like her sister, Rachel possesses blood that grants her abnormal strength but also puts her in danger of becoming a Fiend herself. She dispatches Fiends with the aid of her Warhammer (a fauchard-like weapon), the Peluda Tail (a whip), and her Blades of Ouroborus sorcery. She became a Fiend Hunter to kill her corrupted twin sister Alma. However, she finds herself unable to do so when given the opportunity. She later assists Ryu in escaping the collapsing realm of the Holy Vigoor Empire, but otherwise provides Ryu with little direct help during his quest.

Ayane is a 14-year old subordinate and spy for Murai. She respects Ryu as evidenced from her addressing of him as 'Master Ryu'. She assists him throughout his mission, providing information and hints from the shadows. If the player chooses the Ninja Dog difficulty, Ayane throws away her respect for Ryu and becomes condescending to the player, although she will deliver more aid in the form of hints and items.

Kureha is a shrine maiden of the Hayabusa clan, and a close friend of Ryu ever since they were children. She is killed by Doku when the village was raided. She possessed the Dragon Eye, a jewel carved out from an eye of a dragon, which is revealed to be the missing piece needed to bring the Dragon Sword back to full power as the True Dragon Sword. Ryu replaces the jewel back on her grave at the end of the game.

Muramasa is a great and well-renowned blacksmith, who has traveled all over the world. He helps Ryu by selling him weapons and restorative items, as well as upgrading his weapons. He will also reward Ryu for turning in Golden Scarabs. Eventually, he provides Ryu with the crucial information that the Dragon Sword needs the Dragon Eye to achieve its full potential.

Murai

NGS_Ninjas.jpg

Murai is the leader of the Shadow Clan (comprising of brown garbed lesser ninjas, and their superiors, the white garbed greater ninjas), and Ryu's uncle from his mother's side. Despite helping Ryu by providing the identity of the Hayabusa village raiders, he is actually the mastermind behind the whole ordeal. He intends to let Ryu slaughter thousands to unseal and empower the Dark Dragon Blade with souls. He follows Ryu through the Holy Vigoor Empire in his identity as the Dark Disciple, wearing a black hat, mask and long robe, altering his voice at the same time. He claims the empowered Dark Dragon Blade for his own at the end. Ryu defeats him, and sends him plummeting down to the deep chasm below.

The ninjas of the Black Spider Clan have spent 450 years tracking down the Dark Dragon Blade to steal it away from its possessors, whoever they may be. In executing this task, they beset Ryu at every turn of Tairon to prevent him from recovering the Blade. Their expedition forces in Tairon are whittled down to nothing by Ryu and the Fiends at the end of the game, though the player can read the chronicles of their tasks through diaries picked up from their bodies. It is later revealed that the master of the clan has told his minions that desires the Blade to grind it to brew herbal tea, and one of the fallen ninjas expresses disbelief in this desire.

Joe Hayabusa

The father of Ryu Hayabusa, Joe has returned from training in distant lands to resume his duties as the leader of the Hayabusa Ninja Clan, only to be injured in one of his many battles against the forces of evil. He lays in rest at his home in the Castle of the Dragon, unaware that the evil shadow of the Black Spider Clan slowly descends upon his village.

Genshin

Overlord of the Black Spider Ninja Clan, Genshin's lust for power is matched only by his hatred of Ryu Hayabusa and his bloodline. Hoping to gain an upper hand in the struggle for Ninja superiority, Genshin enters into an uneasy allegiance with the Fiends. He will stop at nothing to destroy Ryu and put an end to this centuries-old feud once and for all. His younger brother was killed by Murai.

Sonia

She apparently works for the CIA and is looking for Ryu due to the Arch-fiend's revival as well as a demon statue.

Elizébet

The Ruler of Blood and Queen of the Greater Fiends, Elizébet is tasked with retrieving an important ancient artifact from the ancestral Hayabusa Village, setting into motion the events that threatens the very existence of mankind. Her name and title suggests she is derived from Elizabeth Bathory, also known as the "Blood Queen".

Volf

The Ruler of Storms and one of the Four Greater Fiends, Volf is a vicious, four-armed warrior who seeks an opponent worthy of himself. He and his Lycanthrope underlings have taken over the canal-lined streets of the tranquil Aqua Capital, as he sits on his throne in the castle above, waiting for the one who can defeat him. In his battles with Ryu, he wields a large two-handed scythe.

Alexei

The Ruler of Lightning and one of the Four Greater Fiends, Alexei's hatred for humankind knows no bounds. He has taken the city of New York in his evil grasp and waits perched atop the Statue of Liberty, challenging Ryu Hayabusa to come and face him. He is voiced by Robin Atkin Downes.

Zedonius

The Ruler of Flame and one of the four Greater Fiends, Zedonius has nothing but contempt for human life, often addressing them as "apes" and "monkeys". He descends upon the capital of a once-great military superpower, threatening humanity with an ultimatum: submit to the will of the Fiends or die. Ryu must ascend the city's clock tower to put an end to his fearsome reign. According to Zedonius, it was he who bestowed the gift of fire upon humans centuries ago. He is voiced by Steven Blum.

Dagra Dai

Originally a human philosopher, Dagra Dai gazed into the eyes of the Archfiend Vazdah and became a Fiend himself. Now known as the Infernal High Priest, he has taken leadership of the Greater Fiends and waits patiently for the Demon Statue he needs to resurrect the Archfiend.

Vazdah

One of the ancient and calamitous Archfiends, Vazdah and its Greater Fiends were sealed beneath the earth by the Dragons millenia ago. Now, with the aid of its servant Dagra Dai, the destructive creature stirs beneath sacred Mount Fuji. In-game texts suggest Vazdah is somehow related to Vigoor.

Well thats the cast of characters from both Ninja Gaiden I & II.

Your task, should you accept it, is to write up stats for heroes and villians alike.

Feel free to put them at what ever point values you deem fit for them. So if you can do up Ryu in 350pts then go for it, or if you need 500pts--use that.

Re: Ninja Gaiden

Oddly enough I still have my old Schoolastic novel that came out years ago that was based on the original Nintendo game.

But the Ninja Gaiden games for the X-Box & 360 all take place during an unspecified modernish future. Ryu does participate in the DOA (Dead or Alive) tournaments as well when not on his own missions.

The Setting is a Quasi future/modern setting where the world is obviously filled with technology that can create cyborgs, geneticly engineered super soldiers, laser weapons and other such things.

However there is also a bridge there that brings in mystical/magical elements along witht eh technology. Demons exist and typically are out to destroy/take over the world.

Ninja magic, or ninpo, is simply one facit of the mystical mixing with technology.

Ryu doesn't wield any technological weapons. In the X-Box games he wields the powerful Dragon Sword, a weapon forged from the fang of a mystical and apparently very powerful dragon. The sword can slay anything.

Ryu has also been known to wield other mystical weapons comperable to the Dragon sword that allow him to make use of different fighting styles appropreate for different enemies. Such weapons include tonfa's, Kama's, nunchucu, bo-staff, war hammer with a long heft & huge hammer head, fighting claws, & scythe.

He also typically uses kuni (ninja throwing daggers), in a different forms, from normal kuni, to grenade kuni. He also has a compound bow he likes to use, and a large boomarang shuriken known as the windmil shuriken that has returns to him when thrown, the 4 blades fold up when not in use.

He can run across walls, leap higher than a normal person can, deflect most ranged attacks from small arms, and can perform a flash-step. Flash-stepping is moving blindingly fast for short bursts, but he has to focus his ki for such ultra fast movements, but generally the attacks delivered can kill opponents in one hit depending on the foe.

Then there is Ryu's Ninpo. His ninpo techniques are elemental based and he typically wields 4 of them. The Fireball, Fire wheel, Water walk, are just a few.
