  1. Re: Power Armor Characteristic Purchase So I've noticed no ones really posted an example for this guy of a potential Power armor write-up. As such here is one. Do note that I typically use HD and the List option to keep aspects of powers together. Now for Power Armor you got 3 ways it can be build. An OIF, an OIAI (Only In Alternate Identity), or as a vehicle (which can be abused, so its usually better to just avoid this). Now OIF would give an armor that can be considered portable, usually by it folding up into some sort of carrying case, but this is if the GM allows it, other wise such armor would be OIAI. Armor that takes a long time to put on would have just 1 aspect of it, not the whole list, have Extra Time applied to it (typically Resistant Protection). Power Armor, All slots OIF (-1/2) 1) Augmented Strength -- +20 STR -- [20AP]/[13RC] 2) Augmented Agility -- +5 DEX -- [10AP]/[7RC] 3) Kinetic Buffer -- +10 CON; Limited Power (Only to resist being Stunned, -1/2) -- [10AP]/[5RC] 4) Augmented Reflexes 1 -- +1 OCV -- [5AP]/[3RC] 5) Augmented Reflexes 2 -- +1 DCV -- [5AP]/[3RC] 6) Augmented Reflexes 3 -- +1 SPD -- [10AP]/[7RC] 7) Armor -- Resistant Protection (20 PD/20 ED) -- [60AP]/[40RC] 8) Targeting Systems -- CSL (+2 with Suit Weapons) -- [10AP]/[7RC] 9) Targeting Range Compensator -- PSL (+4 vs. Range with Suit Weapons) -- [8AP]/[5RC] 10) Vernier Thrusters -- Flight 20m, x4 NCM -- [25AP]/[17RC] 11) Metal Strikes -- Hand-to-Hand 2d6n; Reduced END (0 END, +1/2), H-to-H (-1/2) -- [15AP]/[8RC] 12) Power Supply -- END Reserve 150pts/10 REC -- [46AP]/[31RC]
  2. Re: Disadvantages...lists anyone? I did not know that such a list existed... And that is one heck of a list. Well, that will probably do. It's definitely being bookmarked. Thank you.
  3. Re: Disadvantages...lists anyone? Well first, the list is for my own referance...I'm not the GM. I often get a little flustered when trying to come up with disadvantages and keep rehashing the same ones over and over again. I am looking for the full thing...if possible. I generally stear clear of Age and Dependence though. Here is how I write them up on my sheets: [10]>>>Psychological Limitation: Easily Distracted) The PC has difficulty paying attention and tends to either loose interest in conversations and starts day-dreaming, or finds something else to do to hold their attention. Common, Moderate. A list things like this kind of what I'm hoping for. This way I can pick and choose what is fitting for the character if I don't already have something in mind. And of course the points for it can be adjusted easily enough depending upon how seveer I (or the GM) would want it to be, or less so.
  4. Re: The power of Recovery My current character, Torrent, isn't too spectacular for recovery, only a 12...but he has an Absorption that adds 5d6 to his END Pool and his recovery at the same time. This thread got me thinking on ways of making him live up more to his name. I never really thought about giving him a monster recovery...just an Aid to his END pool (Hyper Charge), and his Absorption.
  5. So I've been looking around hoping to compile a list for myself of disadvantages for my characters for quick and easy referance instead of sitting there with my 5th Ed. Hero System book, and trying to come up with ones all on my own. I pretty much own only the 5th Ed. book, so I can't look at other books that may have examples for me to use, which is why I'm here. I'm hoping some of you out there will help a guy out and post various disadvantages I could use. They can be character type specific, or just generic. Hopefully others will find this useful as well.
  6. Re: Concepts Killed by 350 Been there too many times. The first cahracter idea I had was one based off of my screen name, John Stryder. A super genius, he could read a book and remember word for word what was in it, and could then apply what he had read with surprising skill. More over he was a genetisist, and had augmented his strength, speed, and durability. Then we toss in the gear, body armor, utility belt, blasters. Then we have his base and vehicles. Then there are most of my power-armor ideas.
  7. Re: Build that Character on 350 points Challenge Magneto does primarily rely on his magnetic powers, hwoever he can use his magnetic powers to increase his strength. This would be due to the metal mesh suit he wears. This is beneficial for him to do as he often has to face opponents where his powers may not be able to directly affect them, like the Sentinels, or certain other opponents. In truth, the Magneto of the comics is disgustingly powerful...not when he first appearend mind you, but as he has progressed over the years. Here is what Marvel has posted on his actual abilities and gear. Powers Magneto possesses the power to control all forms of magnetism. He can shape and manipulate magnetic fields that exist naturally or artificially. It is unclear, however, whether he must draw magnetic force from outside himself (if so, then he can do so over vast distances), or whether he can also generate magnetic force from within himself. Nor is it clear whether Magneto's power is psionic or purely physiological in nature. Magneto's power is, for all practical purposes, limitless. Moreover, he can use his magnetic powers in more than one way simultaneously. He can completely assemble a complicated machine within seconds through his powers. He can erect magnetic force fields with a high degree of impenetrability around himself for protection. Although Magneto’s primary power is control over magnetism, he can also project or manipulate any form of energy that is part of the electromagnetic spectrum, including visible light, radio waves, ultraviolet light, gamma rays, and x-rays. However, Magneto almost always uses only magnetism, since it’s more difficult for him to manipulate other forms of energy. Magneto has also exhibited powers of astral projection and telepathy, and has claimed to be able to control the minds of others, though his abilities along these lines appear to be minimal. Magneto’s ability to wield his superhuman powers effectively is dependent upon his physical condition. When severely injured, his body is unable to withstand the strain of manipulating great amounts of magnetic forces. Abilities Magneto has mastered many technological fields, and is an expert on genetic manipulation and engineering, with knowledge far beyond that of contemporary science. He is considered to be a genius in these fields. He can mutate humans in order to give them superhuman powers, or create adult clones of human beings and then manipulate the genetic structures of these clones during their development. He has also learned how to create artificial living beings. Magneto is also an excellent strategist, both in actual battles and games of chess. Paraphernalia Magneto's helmet is designed to prevent telepathic intrusion or psionic attacks. Magneto has designed such creations as magnetically-powered craft, complex robots and computers, and magnetically-powered generators. Now for Disadvantages...Yes, the X-Men are one of them. But so are the Avengers & SHIELD. And more over there is Wolverine who is significant of a threat to be a singular hunted (he wants nothing more than to kill Magneto when given the chance, regardless of orders from Cyclops or Xavier--but he often minds their orders...and he's succeeded in killing a Magneto clone, as well as severaly injuring Magneto more than once, although on the one occasion Logan had the Adamantium ripped from his skeleton---and yes, it nearly killed him). He's also egotistic, a highly wanted criminal, he has trouble bringing himself to try and kill Xavier due to their old friendship...and the two still are friends in some respects, but stand on two sides of the fence. And he has a bit of a messia complex. (Not a god complex, he sees himself as a savior.)
  8. Re: Superhero Images And here is another Fantasy character I played, he was a bit of a light fighter/stealth guy. And here is a very early picture of Torrent from a different game. I had originally been thinking was more of a lighter supers game...but it was far closer to dark champions. I also recyled the picture to create a Star Wars Zieson Sha warrior character. And here is the 1st one I did, for my Star Wars character, John Stryder.
  9. Re: Superhero Images But here are 2 images I've drawn by hand. This is Aleck Darkwind. He was a D&D character I had a while back, Fighter/Rogue. And this is Jason Lockford. He was a 150+pt character from a Fantasy hero game. He was a medium style armroed swordsman, and mage we called a Blade-Mage. He cast buffing spells, like a +3 to OCV & DCV to himself & 1 other person, a flame blade spell and I think he learned 2 other spells.' The GM had us divide the Real Cost of spells by 3 for his system. The PC wore a set of red banded armor that was custom made for him. He also wielded a pair of scimitars.
  10. Re: Superhero Images So someone was woundering just how I did up my images. Well its nothing more than tracing. A bit of a cheat I know, but its time consuming...and I personally lack confidence in my own drawing skills. I can only draw characters in one pose generally and can't really do anything more action orientated or too detailed. But here is a track of how I do things using only the default "Paint" program on most computers. I don't use other drawing programs usually...except for Idraw, which I can use to make game sprites. I don't use Photoshop and such because they are way too complicated to use, and generally end up making me irritated and frustrated. So here we have our base picture, one of Captain America from the X-Men: Evolution cartoon. Step 1) I use a very bright blue and use a double thick line tool to slowly trace the body of the character in question, going over all of the black lines and body contours. For the face I go down to just a single line to control detail. I then usually save as a BMP file with 16 colors. This will vastly alter the colors on the picture, and allow me to more easily change colors to a white back ground. This pic is just before I do that. This next pick is what things look like when I have the basic template done. Its here where I save it again but this time up to 256 colors or 24bit. I usually do 24bit. Its at this stage that I will change the lines to black, and use blue & red lines, or purple to figure out other details like changes to the face, adding other details to the body and so forth. Here below is the final product of the alterations, where I've added color and finally saved it as a jpeg. This is the psycho dark Jedi known as Tremmane. He wields a lightsaber that uses 2 emiters side by side to generate what appears to be a thicker than normal blade, all for intimidation purposes. And he is as psychotic as he looks.
  11. Re: Street Fighter IV I believe from some of the articles I've read that the character's moves will more or less be the same for the iconic characters. I suppose we'll know for certain when the demo becomes available.
  12. Re: Ninja Gaiden It would be easy enough to bring the world of Ninja Gaiden into Champions. I would think that demons can run amoke at times, and a super ninja like Ryu could fit in well with any super hero.
  13. Re: Ninja Gaiden Oddly enough I still have my old Schoolastic novel that came out years ago that was based on the original Nintendo game. But the Ninja Gaiden games for the X-Box & 360 all take place during an unspecified modernish future. Ryu does participate in the DOA (Dead or Alive) tournaments as well when not on his own missions. The Setting is a Quasi future/modern setting where the world is obviously filled with technology that can create cyborgs, geneticly engineered super soldiers, laser weapons and other such things. However there is also a bridge there that brings in mystical/magical elements along witht eh technology. Demons exist and typically are out to destroy/take over the world. Ninja magic, or ninpo, is simply one facit of the mystical mixing with technology. Ryu doesn't wield any technological weapons. In the X-Box games he wields the powerful Dragon Sword, a weapon forged from the fang of a mystical and apparently very powerful dragon. The sword can slay anything. Ryu has also been known to wield other mystical weapons comperable to the Dragon sword that allow him to make use of different fighting styles appropreate for different enemies. Such weapons include tonfa's, Kama's, nunchucu, bo-staff, war hammer with a long heft & huge hammer head, fighting claws, & scythe. He also typically uses kuni (ninja throwing daggers), in a different forms, from normal kuni, to grenade kuni. He also has a compound bow he likes to use, and a large boomarang shuriken known as the windmil shuriken that has returns to him when thrown, the 4 blades fold up when not in use. He can run across walls, leap higher than a normal person can, deflect most ranged attacks from small arms, and can perform a flash-step. Flash-stepping is moving blindingly fast for short bursts, but he has to focus his ki for such ultra fast movements, but generally the attacks delivered can kill opponents in one hit depending on the foe. Then there is Ryu's Ninpo. His ninpo techniques are elemental based and he typically wields 4 of them. The Fireball, Fire wheel, Water walk, are just a few.
  14. Ok, so I'm curious what folks would do to build the characters from Ninja Gaiden. This would be the characters from the X-Box games and not the old NES ones. Here is the cast of characters you got to work with and some background info (Keep in mind that there are some spoilers below on the story): Ryu Hayabusa Ryu Hayabusa is left in charge as the 20-year-old guardian of the Dragon Sword while his father, Joe Hayabusa, leaves to train in the mountains. The Hayabusas are of the Dragon Lineage, and as such are susceptible to the power and blood curse of the Fiends. While visiting his uncle, Murai, the Hayabusa village is attacked. Ryu rushes back only to find the village in flames and everyone slaughtered, including his childhood friend Kureha. He tries to defeat the dark samurai Doku, who has taken the Dark Dragon Blade from its resting place, but is cut down and killed. He is resurrected by the Hayabusa's spiritual animal, a falcon, and spends time recuperating and preparing for his vengeance. Ryu invades the Holy Vigoor Empire, seeking to kill Doku and recover the Blade. He sets himself against the Fiends, and foils the plans of Doku by rescuing Rachel and freeing her sister Alma from the cursed existence of a Fiend. He fulfills his quest by destroying Doku's spirit, slaying the Holy Vigoor Emperor and recovering the Dark Dragon. His task completed, he shatters the evil blade after overcoming his corrupt uncle (who takes it in his own quest for power), and returns to the Hayabusa village. Ninja Gaiden II: The current leader and protector of the Dragon Sword and the Hayabusa village. He was the sole ninja responsible for the destruction of the Vigoor Empire and all of its leaders, including Doku and Murai. Supporting Characters Rachel is a scantily clad Fiend Hunter in the Vigoor Empire. She searches for her sister Alma, who was turned into a Greater Fiend by Doku. Like her sister, Rachel possesses blood that grants her abnormal strength but also puts her in danger of becoming a Fiend herself. She dispatches Fiends with the aid of her Warhammer (a fauchard-like weapon), the Peluda Tail (a whip), and her Blades of Ouroborus sorcery. She became a Fiend Hunter to kill her corrupted twin sister Alma. However, she finds herself unable to do so when given the opportunity. She later assists Ryu in escaping the collapsing realm of the Holy Vigoor Empire, but otherwise provides Ryu with little direct help during his quest. Ayane is a 14-year old subordinate and spy for Murai. She respects Ryu as evidenced from her addressing of him as 'Master Ryu'. She assists him throughout his mission, providing information and hints from the shadows. If the player chooses the Ninja Dog difficulty, Ayane throws away her respect for Ryu and becomes condescending to the player, although she will deliver more aid in the form of hints and items. Kureha is a shrine maiden of the Hayabusa clan, and a close friend of Ryu ever since they were children. She is killed by Doku when the village was raided. She possessed the Dragon Eye, a jewel carved out from an eye of a dragon, which is revealed to be the missing piece needed to bring the Dragon Sword back to full power as the True Dragon Sword. Ryu replaces the jewel back on her grave at the end of the game. Muramasa is a great and well-renowned blacksmith, who has traveled all over the world. He helps Ryu by selling him weapons and restorative items, as well as upgrading his weapons. He will also reward Ryu for turning in Golden Scarabs. Eventually, he provides Ryu with the crucial information that the Dragon Sword needs the Dragon Eye to achieve its full potential. Murai Murai is the leader of the Shadow Clan (comprising of brown garbed lesser ninjas, and their superiors, the white garbed greater ninjas), and Ryu's uncle from his mother's side. Despite helping Ryu by providing the identity of the Hayabusa village raiders, he is actually the mastermind behind the whole ordeal. He intends to let Ryu slaughter thousands to unseal and empower the Dark Dragon Blade with souls. He follows Ryu through the Holy Vigoor Empire in his identity as the Dark Disciple, wearing a black hat, mask and long robe, altering his voice at the same time. He claims the empowered Dark Dragon Blade for his own at the end. Ryu defeats him, and sends him plummeting down to the deep chasm below. The ninjas of the Black Spider Clan have spent 450 years tracking down the Dark Dragon Blade to steal it away from its possessors, whoever they may be. In executing this task, they beset Ryu at every turn of Tairon to prevent him from recovering the Blade. Their expedition forces in Tairon are whittled down to nothing by Ryu and the Fiends at the end of the game, though the player can read the chronicles of their tasks through diaries picked up from their bodies. It is later revealed that the master of the clan has told his minions that desires the Blade to grind it to brew herbal tea, and one of the fallen ninjas expresses disbelief in this desire. Joe Hayabusa The father of Ryu Hayabusa, Joe has returned from training in distant lands to resume his duties as the leader of the Hayabusa Ninja Clan, only to be injured in one of his many battles against the forces of evil. He lays in rest at his home in the Castle of the Dragon, unaware that the evil shadow of the Black Spider Clan slowly descends upon his village. Genshin Overlord of the Black Spider Ninja Clan, Genshin's lust for power is matched only by his hatred of Ryu Hayabusa and his bloodline. Hoping to gain an upper hand in the struggle for Ninja superiority, Genshin enters into an uneasy allegiance with the Fiends. He will stop at nothing to destroy Ryu and put an end to this centuries-old feud once and for all. His younger brother was killed by Murai. Sonia She apparently works for the CIA and is looking for Ryu due to the Arch-fiend's revival as well as a demon statue. Elizébet The Ruler of Blood and Queen of the Greater Fiends, Elizébet is tasked with retrieving an important ancient artifact from the ancestral Hayabusa Village, setting into motion the events that threatens the very existence of mankind. Her name and title suggests she is derived from Elizabeth Bathory, also known as the "Blood Queen". Volf The Ruler of Storms and one of the Four Greater Fiends, Volf is a vicious, four-armed warrior who seeks an opponent worthy of himself. He and his Lycanthrope underlings have taken over the canal-lined streets of the tranquil Aqua Capital, as he sits on his throne in the castle above, waiting for the one who can defeat him. In his battles with Ryu, he wields a large two-handed scythe. Alexei The Ruler of Lightning and one of the Four Greater Fiends, Alexei's hatred for humankind knows no bounds. He has taken the city of New York in his evil grasp and waits perched atop the Statue of Liberty, challenging Ryu Hayabusa to come and face him. He is voiced by Robin Atkin Downes. Zedonius The Ruler of Flame and one of the four Greater Fiends, Zedonius has nothing but contempt for human life, often addressing them as "apes" and "monkeys". He descends upon the capital of a once-great military superpower, threatening humanity with an ultimatum: submit to the will of the Fiends or die. Ryu must ascend the city's clock tower to put an end to his fearsome reign. According to Zedonius, it was he who bestowed the gift of fire upon humans centuries ago. He is voiced by Steven Blum. Dagra Dai Originally a human philosopher, Dagra Dai gazed into the eyes of the Archfiend Vazdah and became a Fiend himself. Now known as the Infernal High Priest, he has taken leadership of the Greater Fiends and waits patiently for the Demon Statue he needs to resurrect the Archfiend. Vazdah One of the ancient and calamitous Archfiends, Vazdah and its Greater Fiends were sealed beneath the earth by the Dragons millenia ago. Now, with the aid of its servant Dagra Dai, the destructive creature stirs beneath sacred Mount Fuji. In-game texts suggest Vazdah is somehow related to Vigoor. Well thats the cast of characters from both Ninja Gaiden I & II. Your task, should you accept it, is to write up stats for heroes and villians alike. Feel free to put them at what ever point values you deem fit for them. So if you can do up Ryu in 350pts then go for it, or if you need 500pts--use that.
  15. Re: Ninja Gaiden Its hard to say really where it would fit in. But its just a little activity to give folks something to do. But I'll repost in the Other catagory.

  17. Re: Power Armored Heroes on 350pts Ok, so I've crunched numbers over and over again. 18. Re: Power Armored Heroes on 350pts So OIF is ok... But how do I simulate the time it takes to have the PC put on the armor and such. This is one of the things that really gets me with power armor is how to figure out the build and still have pts left for the character himself. I should probably look into getting an ultimate book or something. But can I do this...buy Armor with OIF, and then buy other powers with OIF, but with Link (-1/4) on them linking them to the Armor power, thus showing that with out that power he can't use them? The new thought here is like this: 26)_____Armor: 15 PDr/15EDr; OIF (-1/2); Full Phase to Activate Only (-1/4)---AP 45 I then add in the suits other elements onto this with OIF (-1/2) and Linked (-1/4) to this power.
  19. Re: Superhero Images Gotta new one. I found a pic of a Guyver 01 toy and used it. The Guyver pic is below.
  20. Re: Power Armored Heroes on 350pts So looking over the character, is there any other way I can improve on him...or have I pretty much pushed what I can do? Oh, and here is a pic of what he is supposed to look like:
  21. Re: Power Armored Heroes on 350pts I would have liked to do that...but the GM already put the cabash on power armored suits as vehicles. If it were a giant robot then it would be aplicable.

  23. Re: Power Armored Heroes on 350pts I see a possible problem with the example Elemental Control from above, as reposted below. 13 human/alien hybrid nanite armor: Elemental Control, 70-point powers, (35 Active Points); all slots Extra Time (Extra Phase, Only to Activate, -1/2), Gestures (Requires both hands; must be able to stretch out; -1/2), Concentration (0 DCV; -1/2), OIHID (-1/4) • 13 1) FF (15 PD/15 ED/5 Power Defense), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Persistent (+1/2) (70 Active Points); Extra Time (Extra Phase, Only to Activate, -1/2), Gestures (Requires both hands; must be able to stretch out; -1/2), Concentration (0 DCV; -1/2), OIHID (-1/4) 0 • 13 2) Flight 20", Usable Underwater (+1/4), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (70 Active Points); Extra Time (Extra Phase, Only to Activate, -1/2), Gestures (Requires both hands; must be able to stretch out; -1/2), Concentration (0 DCV; -1/2), OIHID (-1/4) 0 • 11 3) +47 STR, Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (70 Active Points); No Figured Characteristics (-1/2), Extra Time (Extra Phase, Only to Activate, -1/2), Gestures (Requires both hands; must be able to stretch out; -1/2), Concentration (0 DCV; -1/2), OIHID (-1/4) Now I'm assuming that the Gestures, Concentration thing is only applied when activating the powers initially. Also as they are in an Elemental Control pool, aren't they supposed to be required to use END? I would probably alter a few things. I'll be posting something here in an hour or so.
  24. Re: Power Armored Heroes on 350pts This is all some great stuff and brings in things I wouldn't have thought of. The mimic pool I wouldn't make too extravogant, maybe a 30pt pool, since its the Real Point cost you gotta worry about with those. I'll be heading home here in about 30min. I'll see if I can't iron out powers and such based upon recommendations to fulfill campaign AP limitations. I think that I'm really getting hung up on the fact that there's really so many ways to build a suit of power armor, its difficult to decide on the method to use not to mention trying to reign your self in from making the typical full "Iron Man" suit.
  25. Re: Power Armored Heroes on 350pts Unfortunately I can't open those files, I don't have Hero Designer. We have a requirement that at least 25pts have to go into non-combat skills. This also keeps me from being able to employ a weapon emulation system. (The campaign takes place in a modified Champions setting.)
