Fearghus
OK so I have been following a couple threads and I know the gripes my gaming group has about ALL THE MATH in hero system. Am I the only one that doesn't see where all this complicated math is? OK fine it requires you to multiply and divide by fractions, but those fractions are all VERY EASILY converted to decimal so you can do it on a calculator if your really too lazy to multiply by 2.25 in your head. Which is about the most complicated math function I have seen in the book. it's mostly simple addition and subtraction. Just my thoughts. Sean Waters
Re: About Math I have often found that players new to Hero become over - ambitious and define powers to a high degree- requiring many modifiers - which can look very disconcerting when written down. The only place where any kind of difficulty involving multiplying or dividing by fractions occurs is in character creation. I agree it really is not complicated, but some people find such tasks daunting and it does take them a while to get used to it - nothing to do with intelligence, just that if they see: (60 x(1+ 1.75))/(1+0.5), they do not automatically think Easy! After a while that is pretty automatic for the seasoned Hero player (please Lord let me have got that right..!), but I can certainly appreciate how it can look pretty damn intimidating to someone who isn't used to it. That is why I really, really believe that 6e2 should have been 6e1 and that there should have been a starting scenario with pre-generated characters.
