Willis
hello, I'm new to the hero system, and I'm wanting to run a campaign using the fantasy setting with ships (boats) that travel through space. sort of like spelljammer, but not exactly. more like a pirates of the caribbean meets star wars type thing. does anyone have any advice as to how I could do this? would it be better for me to use a different system since I'm not completely familiar with this one? I like the flexibility of this system, and all the options, but if I can't do it I need to look elsewhere. any help would be appreciated. Herolover
HERO sytesm can do a lot.... ...as long as you are willing to work at it. HERO system could easily do a "spelljammer" campaign with little difficulty. The first thing you should do after picking up the main book is to pick up Fantasy Hero. This will help you do the Fantasy part of your campaign. It also give you some ideas on the different kind of magic systems that you could use or create. (I have the feeling when the Fantasy Hero Grimior comes out it will also be a must buy since it will have many pre-made spells.) After that it is pretty much easy to place charactes on a ship. You can create your own ships, if you need the stats for them, using FRED and the Vehicle construction rules. Also, the Ultimate Vehicle has more detailed construction examples on ships that you could use. Pretty much the HERO system can do anything as long as you are willing to put some work into it.
