The Main Man
The "Are Bricks Too Expensive in 6e?" thread inspired me to start this thread and others in the future. Basically, it's meant for us HEROphiles to explore creating the various Champions archetypes in 6e one at a time per thread. In this one, let's work on Energy Projectors. For my opening entry, I present Doctor Vermilion, with background info laid below and HERO Designer file attached*. *Can anyone point me to a RTF 6e Export Template? Doctor Vermilion Background Doctor Diane Martin is an expert astronomer and geologist who couldn’t resist having the opportunity to study newly discovered red kelvarite. It wasn’t long before she got to discover first hand what its effects were when it exploded upon her. Unlike documented superhumans such as Tachyon or Thunderbolt, Diane was not granted superhuman strength and speed features but rather the ability to project, channel, and absorb pulson energy. It did not end there for Diane though. She was a scientist and so she set out to study her capabilities and it wasn’t long before she decided to study in the field. So why not be a superhero? Personality/Motivation Diane primarily fights crime as Doctor Vermilion to study her abilities as well as those of her fellow superhumans in the field. She is fascinated with (ethically) testing her limits as well as those of her allies and foes, something that has not been lost on her loose contacts, the Justice Squadron. Diane is particularly interested in superhumans who gained powers as a result of kelvarite, which has put her at odds with super villains such as Tachyon and Thunderbolt. She would like to get her hands on some more kelvarite for testing, and is curious if there are even more alternate kinds of kelvarite like the red variety that she studied. Powers/Tactics Exposure to red kelvarite gave Diane the ability to controls pulson energy, a sort of “generic” form of energy. She can expel it from her hands, repel energy with it, and even absorb other energy to make her own energy powers stronger. She has gotten pretty adept at doing it, but she believes that her full potential has yet to be reached. Diane has taken two additional steps to aiding in her crime fighting career. First, she fashioned herself a suit of protective clothing, as the red kelvarite did not grant her superhuman toughness like the green kelvarite granted to Tachyon or Thunderbolt. She has secondly been taking self-defense classes to aid her in her crime fighting pursuits. Expelling pulson energy is great until you have Ogre breathing down your neck. Diane likes to test her limits as well as those of others, so when she engages criminals in combat, she often tries to do different things with her powers than she may have in the last conflict that she was in. She is not an expert tactician but she can recognize fundamental errors in tactical judgment while doing so however. Furthermore, she also likes to test her enemies which can sometimes endanger others around her, which she tries to avoid in the name of ethics. Campaign Use One of the best ways to use Doctor Vermilion is to shake your PCs out of their routine tactics and tricks and get them to think outside of the box. You can enforce this by adding various new abilities to her current repetoire. Doctor Vermilion can make for interesting guest appearances in you campaign as she primarily fights crime on her own but she has worked with the Justice Squadron before, so it’s not out of the question to fight alongside your PCs. Doctor Diane Martin also makes a decent scientific contact, especially in matters revolving around kelvarite and superpowers having to do with it. Appearance Diane is a fairly attractive brunette woman in her 30’s who carries herself with an authoritative, intellectual demeanor. She retains this when out costuming, but she takes on a more energetic personality due to her like for field study. As Doctor Vermilion, her costume consists of a red, form-fitting uniform with black boots, gloves, and belt. She also wears stylish, but protective, sunglasses. When Doctor Vermilion utilizes her pulson powers, her hands are surrounded by a bright red aura.
